Previous Answer: All Content that is unlocked during Crimefest is released for free for the entire community of PAYDAY 2.

Note that this changed after the backlash of the community.

So they made a promise they didn't think twice about and now they changed what they promised because they did something stupid. Is Overkill a dumb person or is it a corporation? I forgot.

Wow, I am so glad I stopped playing this game months ago. Pay to win microtransactions? Is OVK that out of the loop to not realize that there'd be a major backlash over this, especially when they've promised otherwise in the past, and especially during a time they're supposed to be rewarding the community? After building such a strong community, I could definitely see this being the final straw that drives a significant number of people away from the game, what with so many other AAA titles on the horizon.

I played on 360 originally, & while I know this sub hasn't exactly been sympathetic toward the console crowd, I knew OVK cared more about maximizing profits than players after making us wait almost an entire a year for a single update, then after one update telling us to buy a current gen version to get more updates and, to rub salt in the wound, that we wouldn't be able to transfer progress forward. I bought the current gen version anyway, and unsurprisingly there was a game-breaking glitch at launch that took a month and a half to patch and prevented joining into public lobbies. Of course though, in that month and a half, they had no problem churning out paid weapon packs & DLC to throw money at.

Even after I finally got a decent gaming PC, I swore I'd never waste my time with any other product OVK was attached to.

You know what I'd ike to see? I'd like to see them fix all the problems, repair their PR, in a couple months do the next event... And next to nobody participates. I honestly think they're done after this. Going f2p and attracting all the kids who still play TF2 should be their only option.

You know what? no, fuck this. I defended them yesterday hoping they would fix the dissapointment of day 1, but this is just pathetic. 5 masks and no fixes?? Really? Did we really create events, played for hours, just to get shitty microtransactions, and five masks? I got a refund from the dlc I bought, and now it's time to find a new game.

Guys, I think we should calm down. I definitely think that OVK knows that the community is dissatisfied. They have shown their willingness to change based upon community preference in the past. What makes you think they'll be different now? They are likely trying to think of the best way to fix the situation. I do believe they thought we'd love the updates.

Since Goldfarb left, Payday 2 just got worse and worse. A shit ton of DLC, in-game micro transactions, a stupid new inventory which is even worse to navigate through, new heisters who don't make any sense to me... Instead of working on the safehouse customization announced in 2013(!), they just milk us to get even more money. Payday 2 is dead for me. It was a great game. It WAS.

This update has got to be a ruse. I mean, they removed the speed reduction on the minigun but didn't remove the mods that boost speed, and now ammo pickup is enabled. So now the minigun makes you move extremely fast, and couple that with Grinder, dodge, two-piece suit and swan song aced and you're unstoppable.

I was still hoping a fix for desynch & poor netcode but now I'm just sad. They prefer milking out the community instead of fixing there performance issue. I've enjoyed many DLC's and I had many hours of fun but some issues haven't been fixed and we can clearly notice that their only priority is to make more money.

After nearly 400 hours of gameplay, it's time to switch to something better.

GG OVK, you lost all sense of originality and dignity (thanks for lying to us, by the way) by caving into micro-transactions. I was thinking about getting the GOTY edition during Crimefest, but after the immense amount of disgust I've had with skin and cosmetics in the TF2 universe in their attempts to rip off of the CS:GO model, you can pretty much forget about that.

I feel like playing Payday 2, but I had not downloaded the new update yet for fear of the rebalances and crates fucking up the Payday 2 I was promised by Overkill. Is there a way to continue playing the game without downloading the new update at all?

It sucks to play the game in Steam offline mode and not have any stats tracked/pubbing with randoms on Hoxton Breakout attempt #53594, and I'm wondering if there are any alternative methods. Having spent $5 on this game in a offer, I have every right to demand a quality experience and this bullshit works against it.

Granted, skins aren't a bad idea, and I wouldn't mind that IF IT DIDN'T GIVE A FUCKING ADVANTAGE BECAUSE SOMEONE PAID MORE MONEY THAN ME. One thing I admired pre-Crimefest 2015 is that how one can beat the game without all the DLC guns/character packs' weapons and perk decks/heist-introduced weapons, albeit with high difficulty. But then again, bullshit like the Mod Courier job/grenades from weapon pack #01/LMGs from weapon pack #02(hell, there is a fucking LMG in The Heist without a paywall in place, dafuq?) are things that should have been shipped with the game.

Granted, I'm a new player at 33 hours clocked in, so I probably shouldn't have a say on DLCs and most of my words wouldn't have any impact to the guys at Overkill. (Hell, where the fuck are they? Almost a day in and no word from Almir or Andreas at all - Chains was the only one to do damage control and he isn't Overkill's PR in anyway [am i right to say that? no?]), but seeing that I've paid for the game I feel i have every right to say this. A forced implementation on skins that affect gameplay and a microtransaction system to go along with it is not providing quality content to your customers. I'm pretty sure some of us feel cheated that this is the 'free content' we worked our asses off grinding Hoxton Revenge/Rats/Meltdown or playing a part in the Road together. And the saddest thing? 2 years ago, even the devs laughed at the ridiculous idea that Payday 2 needed microtransactions. And today, this is statement is such a fucking joke it made the Alesso heist look like it is actually worth something compared to 10 million more pixels slapped on a fucking revolver shotgun that's already great enough on it's own.

I'm sorry for the sudden off-topic rant, I just got pissed thinking about the undownloaded update I purposely refused to install.

What makes this such a calamity is that it's just day one of a 10 day "event". Who knows how much of the same (or worse) they have planned down the line. If they plan on backtracking, and making this right (assuming they have the sense to do this), imagine all of the unseen they need to rework.

There's no fixing it though. You don't lead in with something like this and expect the rest to go smoothly. It's like ordering an appetizer, and it being baby possum heads in a bowl. There's no exceitment to be had for the rack of lamb once it hits the table.

That being said, the only reason these things happen, and wil continue to happen is because they can get rid of it if too many people hate it. More than not will stick around. That's the key. Call me a pessimist, but it's why I think we are destined for this as the norm. They keep pushing it, and pushing it. Some get away with it, some don't. Time goes on, more and more get away with it. Then boom, like dlc, it'll feel like it's always been like this.

I remember, I backed your game since death wish and all that wonderful content weren't a thing. And I gotta say that this is the biggest middle finger I have ever gotten from a game developer I actually trusted. I know, I know :salt:. But to be honest, now you deserve whatever shit-storm you have stirred up in your community.

I for one, just can't believe you created all this hype around Crimefest and then slapped your d!ck across our faces and ~~proudly~~ shamelessly presented "You know how we already have milked you for low effort DLC-spam, and promised "no microtransactions?" WELL! Dear heisters, we give you microtransactions!"

TL;DR: Fuck it, I'm out. The only real payday here is the heisters of Overkill software.

This is legitimately a sad experience for me. I dedicated so much time and money to his game between console and PC. Even if things get reverted, I won't be able to bring myself back to this game. Mods are dead and for some there's no recovering them. I've lost all faith in OVK. They can apologize, give refunds, or come out and say it was all an elaborate prank, this game is dead for me. It's shit because this is a legitimately fun game and community.

I get on after school. 5.3 gigabyte update. "OH YEAH, CRIMEFEST CHALLENGES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED" Takes the whole afternoon to install (~4 hours). I watch the trailer/introductory video. See coloured guns on the ground "Please...god, no OVERKILL, don't do this. It can't be..." To my horror, there is a 'Steam Inventory' tab. I try a quick rush of Jewellery Store, HoxHUD does not work. I get a Safe #2 from the card. I check the Community Market. I go into a corner and cry.

This is sad. Here's my 2 cents:

After all those DLCs they're trying to rip us off even more? Drills should be card drops like safes. Skins should not give stats. There's no need for special lobby standing animations when you have a skin equipped, looks childish. Period.

Gun rebalance, more like total fuck up. Why did they mess it up this much? They should've just given some guns some extra damage and/or total ammo and that's it. No need to ruin the whole game. The removal of speed decrease on LMGs is fine though.

The new gun customization menu is terrible, it's annoying to navigate. The old one was fine.

They changed the gun icons ingame as well, they look retarded now, the old ones were A LOT better.

The only good thing I've found in this update is the new weapon butt animation of the Bernetti.

While I'm at it, why do some animations look retarded? Like the sprinting with the Crosskill, just what the fuck is that? That totally killed the gun for me, many guns suffer from this. (I was too lazy to make a reddit acc just to say this back then, but what they've done now is some serious fuck up that could cost them the game.)

BTW it's sad that the game is becoming MemeDay, they're trying to push in a joke into every sentence nowadays.

My suggestion to make this better: make the crates have the "exclusive overkill rare item" exclusive, but let the weekly job drop a random skin. Like the contracts form Tf2, you get random skins by playing, but you get the top notch stuff by spending money.

And also bring back the none double barrel shotguns back to there old dmg.

I'm sure it won't be hard to get the cosmetic skins using mod_overrides and use some form of lua script to boost stats in order to essentially get the skins for free. I don't usually condone stuff like this but in this case I have no problem with it.
