Whether it's political, social or religious ideology, people will feel the need to defend their views in front of others, you will see it all over the internet and beyond.

This is what happens when someone ties their personality very closely to their views and ideas - an arguement against one of their views isn't just an opposing view to be explored and considered, no , it's an attack on themselves as a person and since they feel personally attacked, lashing out is the only option.

I feel this goes for everyone by the way, both political extremes do this, religions of all colours do this and, yes, both TRPers and Tumblrinas do this.

It's very unhealthy to tie yourself very closely to your ideas - well adjusted, balanced people are always willing to change what they think based on new information - that is how our western civilizations arrived at the point they are today, and that is why those that could not have been failures as modern states/societies/etc.

Sorry, I rant too much - yes, it is funny in a sense, but also distressing that people can be so attached to an ideology.
