Social Anarchism: The branch of anarchism which sees individual freedom as being dependent on mutual aid; community and social equality.
Social anarchism is an umbrella term that includes collectivist anarchism, anarchist communism, anarcho-syndicalism, and social ecology.
'Social anarchism' is often used interchangeably with libertarian socialism, left-libertarianism & left anarchism. The term emerged in the late 19th century as a distinction from individualist anarchism.
Collectivist anarchists oppose all private ownership of the means of production, instead advocating ownership be collectivized. Collectivization is not to be extended to distribution of income, as workers should be paid according to time worked, rather than receiving goods "according to need" as in anarcho-communism. This is a much different idea than the capitalist wages system, because people are truly treated as equals; everyone's time is valued equally, regardless of occupation chosen.
Anarcho-syndicalists focus more on the labour movement than previous forms of anarchism, championing radical trade unions as a potential force for revolutionary social change, replacing capitalism and the state with a new society; democratically self-managed by the workers, and abolishing the wage system and private ownership of the means of production, which they believe lead to class divisions.
Social Ecology is reconstructive, ecological, communitarian, and ethical. It advocates a transformative outlook on social and environmental issues and promotes direct democracy. It envisions a moral economy that moves beyond scarcity and hierarchy, towards a world that reharmonizes human communities with nature, while celebrating diversity, creativity and freedom.
Alexander Berkman: "There are revolutions and revolutions. Some revolutions change only the governmental form by putting a new set of rulers in place of the old. These are political revolutions, and as such they are often met with little resistance. But a revolution that aims to abolish the entire system of wage slavery must also do away with the power of one class to oppress another. That is, it is not any more a mere change of rulers, of government, not a political revolution, but one that seeks to alter the whole character of society. That would be a social revolution."
Moderation Policy: Ideally in any anarchist forum, there would be no moderators. But just like in real life, we have to exist inside reddit's statist bubble. If I removed all the moderators, the sub would be considered 'abandoned' by the system. So my thinking is I'll instead invite every proven contributor to be a mod. That way we can collectively police ourselves with true accountability and not depend on just a handful of enforcers. Hopefully this is fair. A 'proven contributor' is anyone with a post history that shows an understanding and support of the social anarchist struggle and is not prone to any bigotry, as outlined below.
Rules: All we ask right now is that you follow our basic anti-oppression policy: Moderators will remove posts and comments that alienate members of the community by presenting bigoted views towards: ethnicity, sexual orientation, biological sex, gender identity, age or physical/mental ability. Threats/personal attacks will lead to bans.
All members are asked to report offensive posts. It is equally important that we report moderators that have overstepped and deleted a submission without suitable cause.
Originally, every mod had the ability to ban any mod under them in reddit's forced hierarchy, but this led to problems, with the higher mods being more powerful than the lower mods. Now only the sub founder can ban members. If there is a need to ban a user, please post in the welcome thread explaining why. If the user has broken rules, they will be banned. If there are any objections to the ban from other mods, all mods will be able to vote in the welcome thread. The vote will be open for 5 days. This isn't an ideal system, but we must exist as best we can under reddit's forced hierarchy.
Anyone that removes a thread that isn't obvious spam, without offering an explanation in the welcome thread will be banned. Authoritarianism is unacceptable. If the explanation isn't accepted by at least one other mod, a vote will be taken to decide whether to demod the deleter and restore the submission.
Proven statists/capitalists will lose their mod status, so if you're a statist/capitalist and have been invited to be a mod, please turn down the invite. We are a social anarchist community and wish to police ourselves. Please do not invite non social-anarchists or known bigots to be mods. If you do this repeatedly, you will be demodded.
