because the people pushing the narrative are the ones in power. It's no coincidence this shit spread like wildfire after occupy, which was the first real wide scale anti-govt protest in years. There hasnt been a nationwide protest like that (let alone worldwide) in history, the closest protests to occupy were vietnam era protests.

Occupy was downplayed heavily, but it was effective at scaring those in power. Now the push is to keep college kids occupied with fighting amongst themselves. There are huge pushes to censor the internet, a kill switch for the internet has been put into place, and TPP will put more restrictions, and you have an entire generation who think free speech is bad because it offends people.

This is not unintentional. It all falls into place all at the same time, more than a coincidence.

Your post just made something click for me.

As you probably know, Occupy was subverted, and became the place where so much of this crap we're dealing with started (well there's academic roots that are decades old, but at Occupy it both went to a crazy level and started to really spread).

I've known that for a year now, but it just now clicked in my head why Occupy was the place. What better way to deal with something that scares you then to make it work for you?

It's actually a fairly common realization around here. Just look back to a few weeks ago when a BLM protester went nuts at a Bernie Sanders event, and the brewing BLM internet angst that preceded it. There are people on the far left who will derail or raze anything just because it doesn't belong completely belong to them. It doesn't matter what it is, they can inject that it doesn't do enough for womyn, blacks, PoCs, gays, trans*entities, whatever, and people will turn on it and beat it into the earth.

See also: the recent shitfits over how nobody is allowed to be happy for gay marriage unless they're gay, or nobody at all can be happy because transgender PoCs still mostly have a rough life. They had to go into full demolition mode, because heaven forbid they share an opinion with the majority of the country.

Illiberal American progressivism has been a thing since well before Occupy, it's really only gained steam last couple of years. According to some, it was really brought it out of the woodwork at Occupy.
