Display Creation Date vice Modified Date in Windows Explorer

Mugwump4 asked on
In Windows 7 I'd like to be able to display the file creation date rather than the modified date. For some of the files that I use this is more important than last date modified. I don't want to use the datecreated: function on the search. Even entering the date range is not helpful if I prefer the creation date to be my primary display criteria. I'd rather have to search the date modified as needed.

Hi Mugwump4,

Unfortunately there is no option in Windows 7 to display the  Date Created of the file. The only way to know the date of the file created is:

Right click on the name of the file-> Click on Properties-> Under the General tab-> See the date created of the file.

If you want the file created date to appear with each folder under display in Explorer leave your feedback in the below mentioned link:

If you are in Details view: if you right-click at the columns shown at top of the explorer view (Name, Size, Date modified, etc.), you can select additional columns to display right there, or go to the "More" option to choose even more options to display in that view.

If you're in another style of view, such as Large Icons or Thumbnails, you need to switch to Details view first.

Thanks! I knew there was a way, just forgot and of course, you always need to know when you're in a hurry.

And to think that the Microsoft Rep didn't even know the answer. Doesn't surprise me though. No one know ALL the answers but when I managed Tech Support for AOL, I ALWAYS told them if they didn't know the answer, TO ASK A SENIOR TECH REP. NEVER give a reply that is incorrect or a guess. Obviously this MS rep chose to "be different" and cause "Some'" customer to seek more complicated alternatives. Geeez! Please go get some more training or at least learn to open you mouth and admit you don't know the answer, but find out.

My Dad always told me that "usually there is a SIMPLE answer to most questions. Look for that one first"

I'm showing my prejudice here. I reviewed the Support Engineer's answer above. I THINK that I found the reason for his/her response. Check out the name: Divya R. Does that sound lilke a support rep here in the states? I doubt it,. More like India, Phillipines, etc. This is ONE reason why I am switching as much as possible to NON MICROSOFT products to AMERICAN (I know there are only a few) products and trying not to buy from companies who are sending AMERICAN jobs out of our country overseas. You want an AMERICAN JOB. MOVE TO AMERICA, LEGALLY and learn our ways. NOW, you're taking jobs AWAY from AMERICANS who would normally pay taxes. WHY? For the almighty dollar. Until WE AMERICANS STAND UP AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, Microsoft and similarly inclined companies will continue to send jobs overseas and your brother and sisters will remain unemployed. (Nothing personal against the "Support Engineer" (laugh!) I don't blame you for trying to better yourself and your family. I blame Microsoft for doing it on the backs of AMERICANS.

I'll now get off my soap box (I don't think the Support Engineer knows what that means, does he/she?)
