Why so much hate for banks? (self.Buttcoin)

I really don't get it... is it because

  1. Nsf charges because they're broke

  2. Wire fees because they have entry level account types

  3. Not open at 3am

  4. Free masons and new world order

  5. Require identification and will not process transactions to dark net markets

  6. Low interest on savings compared to the infinite return from bitcoin 2009

  7. Afraid of bank runs and not being covered by fdic (kidding, they're too broke to be over the fdic limit)

  8. Live in emerging or frontier market countries

At least once a day someone in bitcoin makes a post about not trusting banks, but they never say why... I just don't get it. The 8th reason is the only one I could understand.

A few years ago I would walk by zuccoti park on my way home from work and sometimes stop by and ask the occupy protestors their thoughts and why they were part of that movement. All of their responses were very socialistic and downright stupid. There was even a professor I spoke to there who sounded like a complete idiot and brain washed. This is what I think of when I think about the people behind the bitcoin community

they actually hate bankers more, but not as a criticism of capitalism, moreso because the anti-semitic Jewish banking conspiracy is huuuuge within libertarian circles

Banks are where you put fiat money. I'm not sure if it's any more complicated than that.

But so is circle, coinbase, gemini, and the recently pivoted bitreserve.

I suspect that within a few years all of these companies will pivot to traditional banks. Companies like gemini already have all of the banking charters and are fdic insured so once bitcoin doesn't work out, they will just pivot and make money on lending just like every other evil bank

I didn't mean to imply that there's any kind of logic to the distrust. Banks = fiat. Fiat = bad. The end, and everybody lived happily ever after in Monopoly Money Child Porn Land.

There's this weird current of paranoid anger towards banks in r/bitcoin which makes no logical sense at all. It reminds me of Scientologists raving against psychiatrists.

I suppose the answer is that culties gonna cult. There's some appeal to them in having evil adversaries that they're valiantly fighting against. Even though their evil adversaries in this case are a bunch of accountants and middle management types doing dull number crunching in offices.

Like most young and inexperienced white males, they have no clue about life. They want to fix this mysterious banking problem, a fix to a problem that doesn't exists. For the rest of them, convincing themselves there's a banking problem makes them feel about buying neckbeard pesos.

Mostly due to the historically intrinsic evil of usury, which has always been punishable by death until some hundreds of years recent where it was reasoned to be the only way for banks to make enough money. Usury is evil because it requires more money than is in circulation and always ends in the lender amassing all the wealth and making debt slaves out of everyone else, basically what we have today.

Then theres central banking which is looked at with much suspicion but obviously is a requirement to a functioning society, i think most lib nuts mix these two up and associate central banking with usury. And of course the whole fed being a private business is a smack in the face of what is supposed to be a government issued currency.

On a personal level alot of people have been fucked by banks shady tactics, and in the aftermath of the 2008 meltdown it was apparent that government could not be trusted to regulate and prosecute the big banks, which coupled with all the aforementioned crimes against humanity reveals who our true masters are.

I guess they saw bitcoin as taking that power away from the banks, and thats a noble goal that hopefully will one day be achieved, but this particular execution is crude and does not beat banking in any respect except censorship and confiscation resistance.

I feel like this is a common sentiment, but who should have been prosecuted and for what?

it's more a belief in the US dollar being inherently worthless due to the [false] belief that the US Fed just "prints money" and with the next "imminent" crisis only 1-24 months away (the timeline varies depending on which libertarian nutjob you read), the banks will institute capital controls which means you can't take out your money very quickly.
