Yes it is...It's like regulating what books you are allowed to read.

You are a scary dude.

I don't think this comparison has any merit at all. Banning books is bad because it goes against the idea that information should be free. There are plenty of dangerous physical items we're not allowed to own. To me, adding a 10+ capacity semi automatic to that list (along side the many other types of already illegal guns), is fundamentally different than banning an item that poses no inherent physical danger, just because of the information inside it.

Except that argument goes out the window when the semi auto rifle isn't even the most used weapon in gun crime the handgun is.

No it doesn't. That's a different point entirely, which for all I know may be perfectly accurate.

Personally, it would seem to me (somebody who knows nothing at all about guns) that a handgun ban would make more sense, if anything. Hunting and home defense are two of the most common justifications I hear for guns, and for both of these a... long.. uhh... 'non-hand' gun (sorry, like I said I'm completely ignorant when it comes to weapons) would be better.

Well, it's more like regulating people buying books which are made out of functioning military-style assault weapons.
