The reason TRP worked for her is because TRPs biggest mistake is it thinks competence/strength is gender-specific. If you take away the gender roles you have a pretty good (if not kind of Machiavellian) way for people to to become stronger and better at dealing with people that subtly mistreat or manipulate them.

In my friend's case, she was a classic "beta" that found herself doing literally everything (working, raising kids, etc.) while her manipulative weak husband who is on disability was cheating on her.

TRP helped her use "frame" as a way to figure out why she was so unhappy, what her ex was doing to her, set goals on what it was that she wanted in life, and how to get her own "weight up" to stop being used and mistreated.

I wouldn't go that far…. TRP I think has accidentally produced some quality self-improvement work, but it's VERY gender specific, and implies that one is weaker, more manipulative, less trustworthy than the other.
