see: /r/litecoin if you want to see how bitcoin is going to go.

Not with a bang, but with a whimper.

Exactly. It won't "die", just find no mainstream relevance, it'll lose all the startup interest, degenerate gamblers will eventually give up on the price speculation, DNMs will move onto something better, and it'll continue to be run by the small number of weirdos who enjoy running miners and changetipping for "fun".

That, or it eventually gets hardforked to benefit corporate interests soonish which should hasten a decline.

Beyond corporate meddling (which the anarkoteens welcome), there's way too much sunk cost for people to get bored anytime soon.

Some autoimmune degenerative disease, as the developers turn against themselves. Or maybe general organ failure due to obesity and cholesterol buildup in the protocol. Block rupture cannot be excluded either.

Or maybe from swallowing a hard fork, having mistaken it for a soft one.

So, it's not going to OD on euphoria?

  1. lol, I love it when butters try to bait us, you little wascal you

  2. the most likely thing that will destroy bits-coin is a hard fork where neither side gives up and thus one block chain all the sudden becomes two, which

  • throws the entire system into disarray as companies like bitpay and coin base desperately try to figure out which block chain they are supporting

    • causes massive confusion and rustled jimmies from people claiming they paid for things on Blockchain A and discovering the vendor only accepts things on Blockchain B, thus screwing people out of their internet childrape tokens

And finally, the value of bits-coin plummets as the rather obvious flaws of the horribly inefficient, poorly designed and even more poorly implemented system are exposed.

That's the most likely outcome, IMO.

There are still people holding 90s comics and beany babies or iraqi dinar hoping their long game investment is going to pay off. There isn't going to be a point where the people that dumbed their 20,000 into bitcoin at the peak aren't talking about how any day now bitcoin is going to the moon.

Bitcoin will not die unless the darknet dies. Most likely it will settle around 10-20 dollars a coin in a few years.

It won't. It will never, ever reach the mass adoption euphorics claim is COMING SOON but as long as it has a place in illegal/immoral transactions it will be a very, very long time before it ceases to exist.

Apathy. The killing blow was the death of Gox in March 2014; everything since then has been slow apathetic decay with occasional twitching.

The "price" bears no resemblance to supply, demand or liquidity, given it went up when the transaction spam was in full flow.

Trades are way, way down. Look at Gemini - the first fully regulated exchange that's (so far) being completely honest, no Willybotting. It turns out nearly nobody cares.

tl;dr it will fade away with a whimper and this is well in progress.
