I know it isn't PC to say, but it is stuff like this why I don't support the Palestinian cause. They are just dicks. From killing Israeli Olympians in Munich, to bombing night clubs, dancing to celebrate 9-11, to now stabbing women and children. It's just like you know what, I prefer the nation of Israel.

I feel the same way. I know there is blame on both sides, I know Israel has done some messed up things to the Palestinians, treating them as second-class, putting them in bureaucratic hell to immigrate, building settlements on their land. But at least they have tried to reach some sort of peace agreement.

The Palestinians, or at least Hamas, will not stop fighting until Isreal is gone or they are, and Israel isn't going anywhere any time soon. I feel like Israel should just annex the west bank and gaza, expel Hamas, and start providing real fucking aid and development to those areas.

That's also how I feel. Just claim the whole place, give citizenship to everyone and then put the bad apples in prison for the criminals that they are. I'm sure most Palestinians wouldn't even regret it ten years from now. Win-win for everyone involved except jihadists.

And let all the Palestinians. 80% of which who answer on polls that they think killing Jews is okay, with voting rights in Israel? I think everyone would pass that offer

All we got from the Palestinians was mIRC in the early 1990's.

apparently he was a British programmer of Palestinian and Syrian origin. So, I mean I can't really give Palestine credit for that. It feels like saying since the founders of the US were all of British origin that the airplane came from Britain.

I thought that guy was turkish. But then, let's give credit where it is due - Ralph Bakshi was a palestinian AFAIK.

I'm not nearly as knowledgable about the Israel-Palestine situation. Could someone give me a (preferably non-biased) summarization of the events? Also, is this another intifada?

[–]KVillage1 55ポイント56ポイント  (36子コメント)

The israeli govt is not officially calling it a third intifada but some news stations here in Israel are calling it the intifada of the knives since most of the attacks now are stabbings. Also Hamas and other terror groups are already calling it intifada. There has been a very serious wave of terror that started on October 1 with the cold blooded murder of henkin family parents. A couple from the West Bank were driving home when a Hamas terror cell murdered both parents In front of their 4 children. 2 days later two men were also murdered in the old city of Jerusalem and since then there have been at least 18 stabbing attacks that were successful. There have also been a couple of terrorists trying to grab soldiers weapons and using them to attack civilians. Edit - 9 am Israel time Tuesday morning - new knife attack in rannana, Israel. 2 injured. Terrorist shot.

I daresay Israel ought to give them what they want. Let's see how the fervent zealotry for Allah assists Hamas' pawns against a modern unified Israeli army.

... and technically, it is what Hamas wants, since for every terrorist the Israelis put down, some sucker out in the world will buy into the antisemitic propaganda and funnel funds to the Palestinian leadership who will payroll a few more arms-smuggling tunnels if there's cash left over from maintaining his crass luxurious lifestyle.

I have been linking to this Caspian Report video a lot lately, but its short (10min) and I think does a good, balanced job of explaining some elements of the conflict - Origins of Israel Palestinian Conflict

And of course there is the longer PBS documentary which goes way more indepth and is also worth checking out - The 50 Years War Israel and the Arabs Part 1

The first video get it wrong in the first 14 seconds.

The conflict predates WWI.

I stopped watching it there.

I stopped watching it there.

“From 1920, when this conflict effectively began, until 1967, there wasn’t a single Israeli settlement or a single Israeli soldier in the territories, and yet this conflict raged. What was that conflict about? It was about the persistent refusal to recognize a Jewish state, before it was established and after it was established.” - Netanyahu

1920 (Palestinian Jews vs Palestinian Arabs) and 1948 (Arabs vs Israelis) are the most accepted starting dates. I don't even know what other date you can be thinking of. Zionism predates WW1, but there wasn't a conflict yet.

It would be like Black Lives Matter told it's followers to stab police.

[–]fevredream 39ポイント40ポイント  (2子コメント)

More like if Black Lives Matter told its followers to stab anyone who wasn't obviously black.

The Jews started there forever ago. They were conquered by pretty much anyone and everyone for a couple thousand of years. After WW1 Britian took control over palestine and the Jews got a chunk of land to settle. Sometime in the 40s they became official and its been on like donkey Kong since. Both groups were displaced from the same land, just one was more recent than the other.

[–]GreenBrainSyrup [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

I think its more complicated than that. I will say that todays Jews very much live up the brand of ‘jew’ more than their ancestors have.

Let me clarify why I put jew in brackets. The term of Jew comes from the tribe of Judah, which is one of 12 tribes. Which means that Judaism is a minority religion, even though the official one considering King David. So the ancestors of Jews were simply Israelites while some were Jews. Also the oldest torah was transcribed at a certain point after the fall of Israel which then introduces some other complications as to what it represents in terms of authenticity considering the experience of the ones that transcribed it after the fact. Then as most people are aware of the history they were displaced, and the land as it was in the beginning was rule by its locals in the region. The difference sine WW2 is you have ‘Jews’ from Europe that mass immigrated to a place with a local population and changed the identity. Again remember the idea of Israelite as a representation of its people. So while I agree that ‘Jews’ really do their religion a great justice in making the idea of religion seem like a noble thing in ‘self defense’, this argument of what a Jew is from ancestoral times is not something they can own as an argument. Similar to how religion creating citizenship for mass immigration very strange. However, the plight of Jews from the holocaust and their great achievement makes it very easy to ignore the circumstances which in any other groups would seem like fanatics not fit for the modern world using a religion as a modern cause that is not literally compatible to a modern day constitution. Since it also infringes on the idea of freedom of religion by having a group mass immigrate and set up their own identity which was reshaped in their own desire by making Israel (and ancient Israel) Jewish.

Never seen so many downvoted comments in one thread. One comment that posted nothing but the full title of this article is at -34. There is some serious mass downvoting going on here.
