I think the wrong thing about this is that when he heard that her bf died, he immediately thought about having sex with her. You don't. That's gonna be a long wait and you just move on. She could find a new guy in a year, 5 years, who knows. It's 150% up to how she handles it and that's the determining variable here. If you really wanna be with her then I suppose best thing to do is just to be there for her if she needs it and hope she finds interest in you. How is this cringe? I think most of us have texted some stupid shit to our friends sometime in our lives. This was a private conversation asking a friend for advice, better then going up to the girl and making an asshole out of himself. If you know both parties (ie the girl and the deceased), then you must wait an equivalent or greater time then the former relationship. So in this case more than 10 years
