Before you even think of slithering into my inbox to try and defend your disgusting pedophilia ship, read this entire post because I am literally going to dismantle every conceivable argument there is.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long post, so just in case, I’m putting it under a readmore.

Major TWs for rape, pedophilia, and a bit of aggressiveness because I’m sick of anons bombarding me with the same rehashed excuses.

Before I actually get to dismantling arguments, though, I’m going to start with why BillDip is disgusting.

For those of you that don’t know, BillDip is a ship name coined for the ship that involves Bill Cipher, a Demon older than time itself and Dipper Pines, a twelve year old boy. Both are from the show Gravity Falls, and they are fictional characters.

Regardless of being fictional, the concept of an underage kid getting manipulated and assaulted by an older figure is present, and many people romanticize and sexualize this very aspect. People can scream about how they don’t condone in rape and pedophilia all they want, but the fact of the matter is that they are actively shipping and supporting a fictional emulation of glamorized pedophilia and rape. Stripping it to face value: people think about a twelve year old boy getting molested and forced into a power-play relationship where he holds no power whatsoever. Pedophiles can fantasize about molesting a twelve year old boy, it still makes them a pedophile even if the boy was a figment of their imagination, because they represent a desire of a twelve year old boy to be molested, whether it would be acted out on IRL is irrelevant.

1) The relationship is often played out with Bill Cipher being humanized and manipulative to Dipper, he holds all the power because he’s more knowledgeable, older, and because he knows how to get Dipper to do what he wants. This should be sending off alarm bells to you off, that is literally an abusive pedophillic relationship. An older individual manipulating a younger individual in a relationship not harboring mutual respect, but one based on unfair power imbalances. People who support this are romanticizing and glamorizing abusive relationships.

2) Another way it’s played out is with Dipper overpowering Bill, or somehow being the one that seduces Bill. This is not only an unrealistic representation of CSA (child sexual assault), but it’s actually a form of victim-blaming. Victim-blaming is when people wrongly pin the blame and responsibility, not on the attacker, but the victim. Basically, by saying that it’s Dipper that wanted it first, or Dipper that invoked the sexual activity, people are basically pinning the blame on the child and not the adult. Basically, they’re saying Dipper was asking for abuse and assault, and it’s okay because “he liked it”. First off, statutory rape is a thing, and second off: fuck you. IRL rapists excuse their behavior by gaslighting victims and telling them that “they liked it” to try and mask their deed as anything but what it actually is: rape.

3) Yet another way that people ship it is with Bill the same age as Dipper. Spoiler alert: it’s still pedophilia. Just because one’s age is altered doesn’t change the implications. Both are now underage, anyone fantasizing or condoning in underage sexual activity between the two are pretty much harboring pedophillic fantasies about watching two kids have sex.

4) There is one more way that it’s shipped. Since this is often the one used to excuse BillDip, I’m going to use ti to kickstart the beginning of me dismantling all the arguments I’ve seen thrown at people to excuse BillDip.

Wrong. Dipper in the show is presented as a 12 year old boy. Aging him up in BillDip fanfiction or works of art are nothing more than raising the age of a kid for the sake of fulfilling your disgusting sexual fantasies. Because he’s being aged up solely to “legally” be fucked by Bill Cipher, it’s basically still sexualizing a kid, just in a different manner. Think of it this way: A grown ass man sees a kid, this kid is 12. He has sexual fantasies about this kid, but in the form of “just wait until they’re 18.” Basically, you’re simply aging up Dipper so he can be an object of sexual fixation and no other reason, which is disgusting and yes, still pedophillic.

Even if it wasn’t pedophillic, there’s still a huge factor that makes the ship abusive. Bill Cipher is a manipulative character and will forever be coded as the “older-than-you-so-I-know-more-and-you’re-dependent-on-me” kind of character. Even if aging Dipper up solely for porn wasn’t pedophillic, the concept of him in a relationship with Bill Cipher still perpetuates the romanticization and glamorization of abusive relationships.

Not to mention, on several occasions, I have seen people complain about how they have to age up Dipper so people don’t get mad. Meaning that people would ship it with underage Dipper if there wasn’t a threat of backlash. Basically people would completely have no qualms with sexualizing a kid getting raped by an adult figure if people didn’t leap down their throats. Just some food for thought.

Incorrect. Bill Cipher is older than the universe, most likely, making him even older than an average adult. His experience and age create unfair power imbalances therefore creating a similar atmosphere of an adult with power over a child. Even if that wasn’t the case, there’s something called coding. Coding is often when characters, often alien characters or non-humanoid characters are given traits that imply a certain aspect about them.

Example: Garnet from Steven Universe is an alien from a race where people’s bodies are just illusions and projections, many have skin colors that are inhuman such as blue, red, or green. There’s no such thing as African American on her home planet, BUT, he voice actor is black, her features resemble a black person, and she is meant to be read as a black person. She is coded as a black person.

Like Garnet, Bill is coded as well, just not race-wise. He’s coded as an adult. The kind of skeevy adult villain that doesn’t care if he kills his kid nemesis, he’s after something and he’ll go to any length to get to it. He’s near omnipotent and easily manipulates a child. Even if age was irrelevant, Bill is CODED as an adult, making the ship BillDip pedophillic.

While it’s true that a lot of people who ship BillDip are underage, this doesn’t make them pedophiles, but it’s still VERY wrong. First off, it’s illegal for minors to view porn, real or simulated. People who expose minors to porn can be charged and convicted. If roleplaying NSFW situations, both the minor and the adult can be charged. So be careful who you RP with. Legality aside, kids shouldn’t be normalizing relationships like BillDip. Believe me, it does have an impact on minors, I was one of them and as a result I often got into relationships with older people or allowed myself to be around older people that made me uncomfortable and it led to horrible abuse. If you’re reading this and you’re a minor, please stop and think about this. You’re subconciously internalizing the concept of an older figure abusing and molesting underage kids, it’s not okay.

Pedophiles use your porn to groom their child victims. IRL pedophiles are in the community, trust me, and when they see people condoning in so much as a fictional ship, they feel validated and excused, not to mention when most of the shippers are underage, things get dangerous for them because of the pedos in the community. IRL pedos get off to drawn and written porn, and if that somehow sits well with you, you need to really think about your morals. Not only are there pedophiles, but there are victims/survivors of CSA that see this content and can be severely triggered by it. People are getting hurt emotionally and possibly being abused sexually because of the availability of this content.

-If survivors or triggered, just blacklist the tag!

This only helps so much. A lot of people fail to tag BillDip, so blacklisted or not, it still shows up on people’s dashes because people are thoughtless assholes. No matter what, people will see it and you know what? It’s not the victims responsibility to ignore pedophillic ships, it’s the shipper’s responsibility not to post and support disgusting pedo porn.

True that no matter how much I argue, I can’t get rid of BillDip 100%.

However, if I raise enough awareness, a lot of people will see why it’s wrong and stop. Maybe not all, but a significant chunk. This chunk of people now can also express their disgust for the ship, which educates even more people and discourages those who still ship it, which makes the pool of pedophiles/underage shippers smaller by a significant margin. It’s important to keep arguing about this because while it can’t be eradicated completely, it can be shrunk considerably.

So there it is. A long as hell post about why BillDip is awful and why people who ship it or try to excuse it are awful. If you come up with a point I haven’t touched on yet, chances are because it’s so unbelievably ridiculous and probably not even worth my time. But go ahead and try, maybe I’ll add it onto this post.
