I still miss it. Voat just isn't the same.

Voat is for 13 year olds who don't understand what "freedom of speech" means

Visited Voat in hopes for a reddit competetior so that both sites would try to offer the best

Saw Neo Nazis and Wehraboos everywhere, massive vote manipulation (big thread where they all upvoted themselves so that they could downvote, voat requires some upvotes before you can downvote)

Yeah, they [coontown] ruined it

Looking at their front page right now and there's nothing of the sort...

I believe they quarantined /v/coontown and /v/niggers now. But the users are still free to roam and spout their bullshit (I'm more outraged at the Wehraboos tbh)

What's a Wehraboo? Some sort of Neo Nazi?

German army equivalent of a Weaboo

People who worship the (WW2) Wehrmacht and claim they "were the greatest army ever" "had the best tanks ever" "could've won the war if hitler hadn't stabbed them in the back"

"could've won the war if hitler hadn't stabbed them in the back"

So basically they're Hydra.

With less science and, regrettably, less Hugo Weaving.

I don't understand this argument... are they not aware of the American atomic bomb programme? Those bombs were originally designed to hit Germany, not Japan, and had Germany still been in the war at that point they would've been utterly annihilated. It really doesn't make a difference how good your army is if nukes are raining down on you.

They think German scientists made the atomic bomb by themselves, and they somehow managed it within a few months after germany surrendered and before japan did

Technically German scientists did invent it, only they were Jewish and they became Americans. Turns out it's a shitty strategy to persecute some of your smartest minds.

but le glorious Tiger tank could've one shotted any Allied tank up until 1969 if it wasn't for Hitler's stupidity

People who worship the German army from WW2 and spout stuff like "they were the greatest army ever" "Russians only won because of human waves" "tiger tank could beat a modern Abrams tank"

The front page is full of Islamophobia, ignorance about the migrant crisis, and references to the SJW boogieman that apparently controls discourse in Western society. It's a shit hole.

Lol @ people who make fun of fat people but get upset at people talking about how good an army could've been... be a little more sensitive lol

    [–]not_AtWorkRightNow 2ポイント3ポイント  (4子コメント)

I think they had good intentions, and they had a brief opportunity, but they just couldn't execute it.

They lost me when they banned content that wasn't illegal. Distasteful sure but I want a site with a strong commitment to freedom of expression and transparency. Barring that I'll stay where all the people are.

    Just my $0.02.

    [–]not_AtWorkRightNow 2ポイント3ポイント  (2子コメント)

Yeah, I think we need more free discussion of ideas, especially the ones that are unpalatable. Banning those ideas from discussion won't make them to away. It will just cause people to bottle them up and ultimately become Trump supporters.

What we need are popular platforms that forces those ideas to be critiqued and scrutinized. I'm not saying I disagree with reds it's model entirely, but the only way to get people to change their minds about shitty things is to force them to confront arguments against hem instead of sequestering themselves in an echo chamber that'll only reinforce what they think. I think a lot of communities on Reddit are not taken seriously and have been allowed to flourish and grow in their own protected bubbles like the red pill and transphobic/racist sites.

    [–]not_AtWorkRightNow 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

This is exactly right. You will never silence all the nutjobs either. Those ideas are going to be floating around no matter what you do. That's why I am also vehemently opposed to the idea of banning SRS when I see that idea mentioned. Banning subreddits is not going to create better discussion, it's just going to lead to a Facebook/Buzzfeed kind of environment where all the content is totally benign and unoriginal so that no one gets all riled up.

I think to pointed out the main problem is when those ideas get pushed into an echo chamber. That's when problems really happen and that's exactly what trying to ban ideas will get you.
