Why do people dislike bitcoin? (self.Bitcoin)

It seems that any mention of bitcoin outside of bitcoin dedicated communities is met with negativity. What do you think the reasoning is?

In my experience people fear and mock what they do not understand. And Bitcoin requires you to radically alter everything you've ever learned about money. Sadly, if it doesn't have a dead president on it, it's not real money for most people. It takes education. All of us here have educated ourselves and had the ah ha moment. They'll get there.

It's because they are told what to think by the mainstream media. You have to demonstrate to them how cool and useful bitcoin is so they get it.

Cash has more of an association with drugs and illegal activities. With bitcoin you have to show them what it can do. There was a show on CNN called Inside Man that had an episode on bitcoin that can maybe show them what bitcoin is.

Because new things are scary, and thinking is hard. Most people will simply ignore bitcoin, and will (assuming bitcoin's success) eventually follow along unwittingly.

Because people worship at the alter of the State. Therefore they are easily deceived by the evil and the trivial.

The negativity is largely due to outright dismissal of the possibility that money can be created by software.

And anyone will have to admit how counterintuitive the entire concept is. After all, software has bugs, computers have virusses, anything digital can be copied effortlessly. How on earth can such a thing as digital money possibly exist?

Those who get beyond this understandable initial scepticism and take the effort to have a closer into Bitcoin have a chance of comprehending why it can work.

And by sticking around, Bitcoin also proofs to the rest of the world that indeed money can be created successfully by an algorithm implemented by mere software.

They think it's monopoly money and/or they do not understand the fundamental concepts and how it relates to computer science and ledgers, database, trust etc.

It is complicated, often used for drugs and criminal activities and also people are their own bank, nobody returns your money after a loss/theft.
