Dyrus isn't the only player to have played at every worlds. Yellowstar also holds that title.

Edit: Love u anyway Dyrone

What about xPeke and Soaz, have they not?

No they missed season 2.

The World Champ curse. No team that has won has ever made it to worlds the following year. In fact, Imp and PawN are the only players to ever make it back to worlds immediately after winning.

true that

idk what's with the title

[–]Dmano 0

Here's his highlight reel. I only played LOL for a few months but, damn.... this fuckin guy is a god.

So this is where all his emotions went.

Bottled up for all these years.

This man is a god damn legend.

A legend in a league of his own you could say.

Why is he "retiring"?

When you play the same game for years it gets stale and taxing. It is different from traditional sports as they practice on the field for maybe half the amount of time some of these pros practice on the computer.

This in combination with the steep rise in competition has made it harder for veterans to maintain the same level of motivation and skill levels.

Dyrus, Managed to be one of 2 people, in the entirety of the game, where over the couse of his 6 year career to make all of the world championships and the ONLY player to make ALL of their domestic Finals.

As a fan of him, the team, and the esport, his impact will not be forgotten by the fans.

Not really. Preparing for esports =/= preparing for sports. In a game like LoL, 100% of the effort involves playing the game while communicating/discussing with your team. For example, in the NFL, 100% of the effort is not on the field. They also have to spend just as enough time in the gym and just enough time in meetings to discuss the playbook on a whiteboard (aslo discussing the playbook while practicing). And that's not even including the time that they have to make for their organized meal plans to stay in the shape that they are.

I'm a huge supporter for esports, but to say that athletes of sports spend half the time practicing is very wrong.

Not just that, but diet as well. Pretty much everything you do revolves around your sport if you make it to the pro's. It's more than just playing a game or practicing for 11 hours.

Not 100% of the effort in esports is playing. Teams spend almost as much time reviewing vods and discussing strategy as they do scrimming and practicing, which is a lot of time. I'm not going to claim they practice twice as much as traditional athletes, but they do spend a ridiculous amount of time on preparation and practice.

I think he's right in a way, but may not have said it quite right. While the exertion isn't physical, the amount of hours spent in game practicing is staggering. In the two weeks between Playoffs and Worlds, several players went through a couple hundred games, at an average of 30 minutes a piece.

Yeah and a pro athlete's entire lifestyle revolves around their sport. eSports players can pretty much do whatever outside of their practice time.

eSports players don't really have time outside of practice. When they finish with team practice for the day they work on individual skills for hours and a lot of them go to the gym too. To stay at the top of the game it really isn't possible to do much else

I'm not trying to invalidate you man, but that's pretty much the same with esports. I'm just saying that one is physical than the other, but they're both about on par with one another in terms of dedication.

time in meetings to discuss the playbook on a whiteboard (aslo discussing the playbook while practicing).

This is true for esports to.

That's why he said on the field. Athletes do have to spend an incredible amount of time devoted to their game, their lives basically revolve around it. But you don't burn out of football because you have to eat healthy and go to team meetings and such. It doesn't get boring in the same way sitting in front of a screen 11 hours a day 7 days a week playing the same game for 6 years with only occasional breaks for holidays and between seasons does.

Not correct. Hours a day analyzing with their coach, hitting the gym, and nutrition are a few parts of a Lol player's life.

I am talking physically playing and practicing the sport. Soloq and scrims

Esports like their physical counterparts obviously have the strategic sessions but in terms of overall time spent practicing is much larger in esports.

Also the off seasons esports pros typically lessen their worldload slightly but sports pros typically dont play or practice their sport until weeks before preseason.

Im not trying to make esports sound harder but they typically put more of their time into the game.

Have you seen some esports players, most of them look far from unhealthy.

After practicing for 16 hours a day for almost every day of 6 years, you get burnt out. But sadly that kind of practice is what is required to be at the very top level.

I believe because he feels like he isn't playing as good as he was before. He feels he is holding his team back.

[–]i_dont_give_a_care -3ポイント-2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Somebody told him about pussy.

Baylife for life. This guy is a hero. Through all the hate, he stuck through it. Sucks that TSM had a terrible showing at Worlds. Oh well. ROCK ON DYRONE

Jesus fucking Christ these are the absolute shittiest comments I've ever seen.

For fucks sake this is a guy who has made a living doing something he loves and being one of the best at it and everyone is just trashing him.

How fucking pathetic and insecure are your fucking lives that you find it necessary to be a raging cunt about this topic?

If you don't care, don't click the link and don't fucking comment.

That being said, sucks to see Dyrus go. He may have started to fall off near the end of his career, but he was undoubtedly one of my favorite pros. The end of his career doesn't invalidate everything else he managed to accomplish over the years of competitive play. He was always a pleasure to watch. I hope to see him continue streaming.

being one of the best at it

Gud 1 m8

Loved his streams at the beginning of his career, I remember his Dreamhack performance back when he was on Epik Gamer with Doublelift and Westrice. His singed was awesome!

I'd have loved for him to have performed really well in his last tournament, because I'm sure he'd have loved that. Regardless, it's kind of sad to see him go.

I always count him as an original member of TSM, even though he joined a little late. TSM pretty much won't be the same without him anymore, it's going to be really strange.

He very rarely shows emotions, this was kind of heartbreaking to see. Whatever he does now, I hope he does well.

[–]Bmandk 3

The 312 games stats isn't quite right. It's Riot's official games, but before LCS started, there were a lot more tournaments. Also, quite a few of those are also BO3/BO5s. And as /u/iownced, Yellowstar has also played at every world championship.

It's terrible to see him go.

Wow these comments are a fucking mess.

[–]Nogert 0

So what does a professional gamer do when they retire? Do they just start off as if they'd left school. I can't imagine there's much left for them unless they're extremely charismatic and get commentator positions.

Some players start streaming to make revenue, some are able to land jobs in the e-sports scene, and some go back to school. I know Dyrus's dad is a plumber so Dyrus might follow his foot steps.

Riot (the company behind League) has also stated they are taking actions to ensure the pros that play for them aren't left out to dry after they retire.

If Dyrus streams he will never need to get a conventional job again. His teammate Bjergsen makes an estimated 400,000 a year just through streaming, with the base salary and other earnings not even added on yet.

Love Dyrus. He was one of the first streamers i've watched that got me into League of Legends. Been watching LCS for the past 3 years and TSM is one of my favorite teams. So sad to see him go. Love you Dyrus, you better still stream like TheOddOne!

750/750 tears fully stacked.

So does he retire into a 9-5 office job?

I'm sure some people would, but Dyrus has made millions doing this. I predict he will play League of Legends casually for a few years which will provide more than enough money to keep him comfy. After that he might invest and fully retire or go to school and get a regular job.

His previous choices so far were getting into plumbing with his dad who also supported his career choice :)

HA... he's probably made more in 6 years than most people here will make their whole lives, so no... he doesn't need a 9-5 job anytime soon!

hes barely 23 while in dota there are 26+ almost 30 yr old pros in the scene. not to mention how more complex the game is. smh this is why LoL sucks hehe Xd
