That's a Furry

Oh yeah. I have a friend named Jon who does the tail/ears shit EVERYWHERE he goes. He is very open about his furryness. It's weird, but at the same time I don't really give to much of a shit cause he buys me food when I'm broke.

Then he moved to California and it's been 5 minute rice ever since.

Maybe it's time to become the furry and get someone new to buy you food.

[–]Senyin 5

I'm good on money now. Not great, but surviving. And I don't think I could be a hardcore furry.

I mean, I guess the fact i've been around so many furrys has made it to where they don't bug me. I've been to the conventions and shit, and its usually pretty cool. I made a fursuit and the BF runs around in at conventions. I don't use it.

When I go to conventions I rather be dressed up as something badass like a game character or anime character, not running around in some fucking suit that gets 110+ degrees. If you're a furry, I gotta give you credit for surviving in that suit and not dying from heat stroke.

Do you think the tail is one of the butt plug ones?

We can only hope so.

It's a really big tail though. She must really work out that sphincter to hold it in.

I'm pretty sure that's a dude.

Dude that wears tight fitting awkward length and cut shorts? Could be a dude, but he's wearing women's clothing then. Even the shirt screams girl.

I've seen guys wear pants like that. They're usually "weird" in some other way too. Also, the shirt does not scream "girl," it's pink. Which a lot of guys wear nowadays.

Also, those shoes don't look like typical girls sandals. They look like mandals.

But this picture is kinda blurry and far-away, so I'll concede that we can't really be sure whether this person is biologically male or female.

I assumed it was a girl shirt based on the fit, the font, and fade. Not color, I totally think guys can rock pink but the shirt looks like a red to me. It looks like it has long hair too, and the pocket details on the shorts kinda look like girl shorts. But who knows. Foxes may not identify with gender anyways. Either way, the tail could still be a butt plug, guy or girl, it probably has a butt.

I'm no scientist or anything, but it appears to be a man with a fox tail and ears.

My favorite part is that they still have to use their human ears.

My wife and I booked a long weekend at a hotel with our two daughters. When we got there, we discovered that it was some sort of... I don't know... nerd convention? I couldn't find a unifying theme.

The entire hotel was absolutely overrun with late teens, early 20's kids that appeared to be furries. But mixed in with them was some anime kids, steam punk kids, kids dressed as smurfs, and all kinds of other weird shit.

Every conference room was filled with some sort of little side group, and there were all kinds of little groups gathering in the hallways. Some rooms had projectors with kids playing N64, there was a group in a hallway that all had old school typewriters and they were all furiously typing... something. There was one room with a bunch of furries that appeared to just be petting each other and making animal noises like some sort of cat orgy.

There were booths everywhere selling all sorts of nerdy shit.

Anyway, when we first got there, the desk clerk told us, "I just want to warn you that there is this convention going on and people not affiliated with it are leaving". (we could see a lot of the action already) Then this really indignant woman clutched her son against her like she was in a war zone and said "It's crazy in there. I'm sorry, but I won't expose my children to this. I suggest you do the same" and she walked out.

My wife and I looked at each other shrugged our shoulders and I said "sounds like this should be a good story to tell... " so we stayed. Our kids loved it. It was like going to Disneyland where you are the only one that's not a mascot.

While the convention was a little weird and hard to understand, all of the kids seemed very well behaved... A little raucous like teenagers will be, but polite. We didn't see any drinking or typical (spring break party) type stuff. Our daughters and my wife got pictures with many of them and they were all very nice. ... A little socially awkward maybe, but nice.

Just like we were enjoying the novelty of their costumes, they seemed to find novelty in the fact that we were this stereotypical suburban family in a sea of cartoons. There was a kid holding a sign that said "Free hugs". No one seemed to be taking him up on it, so I hugged him. I'm sure, a 35 year old dude was probably the last person he wanted to hug, but I seemed to open the flood gates. Suddenly all of these little foxy (literally) girls came up for a hug.

There were so many weird little side stories I could talk about it for hours. But this kid completely reminds me of that place. They aren't as weird as people think. They are just relatively normal (seemingly intelligent) kids that are doing what they enjoy... And maybe finding acceptance in a place while they are normally kind of the "odd man out".

You were right. It is a good story.

It's only missing pics.

Be honest, you just want pics of the foxy girls.

Foxy girls? /r/kemonomimi (though they're drawings)

You are an awesome parent! You may or may not realize how big of an impact that will have on your children in the future. To not judge situations and to give everyone a chance.

Just because society deems someone/or people out of the norm doesn't make them outcasts. I personally don't do those things but all the respect to the people who do it and enjoy it.

You sound like a really good person and dad. Kudos! I knew a really hardcore furry in high school and while some of the things he did make me cringe for him, he was actually the kindest, sweetest boy in school. Very active in LGBT clubs and activism (but never going full blown stupid with it) and he held a high position in the ROTC. A lot of "weird" kids are pretty dang cool.

A larger than average percentage of those kids is probably autistic. Furry culture is probably a 'special interest' (autistic obsession) for them and at the same time something they can use to fit in/bond over a common interest.

I had a "I think I'm an Irish shepherd. All I wore was tweed vests and a flat cap for like 2 years. I also had massive mutton chops and only listened to Flogging Molly. High school was rough.

Aspergers can be rough

I read that initially as "I think I'm an Irish SETTER" and had to reread it to be sure.

I wonder the same thing.... I mean I skateboarded since I was like 8, 13 years later don't really have time anymore, but I was actually pretty good so idk if that still counts. But I guess my phase is over??

I definately did.

In college I wore neon yellow parachute pants and a "Got Wang" Penny Arcade shirt from the very early days of the strip. Was my go-to outfit, actually met my wife in that outfit.

College was fun.

What makes it a "phase"?

If we are talking about a teenage phase then I think someone on Urban dictionary perfectly described it. [Link]

Can confirm, father of two boys. I don't care if they grow up to be gay, but I don't want them to be furries or bronies (or whatever the hell the equivalent will be when they are older... Pokemonkin?)

No, I can guarantee it'll be honey badgers. And I'm not just saying that because I'm planing a super colorful cutsey honey badger cartoon series aimed at kids which I will send off sexual subliminal messages or anything.

For those wondering, it's not the Edmonton, Alberta fox dude who can be found riding the buses in South Edmonton, or the trains. That guy's bald, older, and not a ginger. Also, he delivers sick burns when people heckle him. Can't speak for this guy though. Whatever floats his boat I guess

[–]Kattz 1

"Hey dude, where did you get your costume?"

"What costume?"

You know what, I'm going to go unpopular opinion here. I'm not a furry, I don't understand the appeal at all. But this guy is display a LOT of confidence, more than most other people not only in his subculture, but in general. This is a dude who is clearly sure of what he likes and how he wants to present himself. He clearly is completely out of fucks to give for what anyone else thinks about him. How many of us can say that we go out in public and are unabashedly themselves? Probably not many.

How many of us can say that we go out in public and are unabashedly themselves?

This is a very tall order, and something that most people casually don't do.

I'm not a furry, but the world of costume appeals to me -- hell, I was born on Halloween. However, I do cross dress, and after decades of shame, last year I manned up and brought that side of me into public view. Specifically, I do stand-up, and I introduced a female character that dresses and acts over the top.

It was the fucking scariest thing I've ever done, and it paid off like nobody's business. It turns out that people love the character me more than the "normal" me that I usually present in public.

The takeaway: be yourself. People like that.

There's not much funnier than going with a suiter into an ihop and watching people's faces.

They weird me out, but I try to keep this xkcd comic in mind: https://xkcd.com/471/

I do wonder what their mindset is when going out like this. Is this guy aware this is "weird"? Does he think he looks great? I'm going to guess someone has mocked him openly before, so did that not register or does he just not care?

They are willing to put up with the 999 people who will mock them for the chance to attract and meet that 1 person who is also into that shit.

I've got a theory that at least half of the folks that are into this sort of thing know they can't get laid by traditional means so they go find a group where sex is an inevitability by any means. Everybody wants to get laid. You get yours how you can, they get theirs how they can.

It's not so much putting up with peoples shit and not really looking to meet someone. It's more so that they think they look good, and depending on your preferences they do. It's the same as you wearing clothes you think you look good in, he's doing the same. This is his body, he will dress it up they way he feels most comfortable. That's what he's doing.

I used to date a guy who wore a cat collar and cat ears along with a tail - being gay marginalises you then being a furry pretty much depletes any fucks one could possibly given about the rest of society. Really, when you look at the shit that is 'acceptable' it is difficult to take subjective things like what society considers acceptable as something worth caring about.

But this guy is display a LOT of confidence

I doubt it. it's more that he's not self aware. if you watch any material about bronies, that quickly becomes clear.

How many of us can say that we go out in public and are unabashedly themselves? Probably not many.

most people have self perception and that's a very good thing. it helps us stay within the bounds of socially accepted behaviour and not eliminate opportunities for ourselves by alienating everyone else.

He's at a frigging video game competition, not a formal social event. This is the norm you can expect there

Most people who own suits and stuff make sure they are doing so in an appropriate place. A "nerdy" scene usually qualifies.

You're just trying to dehumanize him, so that it's easier for you to feel justified in mocking him.

He's obviously not a dude, he's a trigendered foxlord, and you are oppressing him with your kind words and misunderstanding.

Unless some type of mental disorder is involved, people are aware of the social norms being broken when entering society dressed as an animal. It's hard for me to believe someone would do this for any reason other than desiring attention (both positive and negative). Fellow furries would congratulate him/her/it(?) for the display of individuality, while the general public, on the other hand, would most likely provide criticism, encouraging the person to continue being edgy/different/unorthodox. This type of behavior is reinforced not by the strength gained solely from being unique, but rather by the direct or falsely perceived attention of others for said uniqueness. I highly doubt a furry would dress like this if there were never others to witness it. This person cares what people think..

Maybe. But you are making a lot of assumptions. And who cares what the motivation is?

Plenty of people break social norms to explore their identity, and it's not always about attention. This has been true since the beginning of time. This is how society changes.

People get tattoos, dye their hair, wear make up, dress in particular styles, get piercings, take on personas, and play instruments, among many other things, for many reasons, other than and including attention. This is no different.

But no one sits around and overanalyzes their motivations, judges them for making personal decisions in their own lives, and gets so up in arms of those people because they aren't the popular whipping boy.

How is this comparable to someone who plays instruments?

I had a roommate who practiced on his clarinet for hours after college each day... I ended up hating that roommate with a passion, and would definitely have traded him in for a quiet furry in a heartbeat.

I'm a furry myself and I have to agree with this. If you're not some Asian chick wearing this in public you better be able to handle the sarcasm.

Or else completely oblivious to it.

Yeah I'm also a furry, and I've noticed that when a hot girl does it its quirky but when a guy does it its weird. Unless you're that one pro Mortal Kombat player (sonicfox I think?) in which case nobody cares because you just won like 50K playing video games.

[–]you_had_me_at_sub 7ポイント8ポイント  (7子コメント)

But that's the thing ..you aren't being unabashedly yourself if you're concealing yourself in a costume. No one sees jack shit of "you". And the argument that this is your "true self" that you are bravely diplaying.....boogity, you aren't a wolf.

Doesn't matter if he is or isn't actually a wolf. He wants to pretend he's a wolf, or fox, or goat or whatever.

The important part is that he actually does it rather than walks around his whole life wishing he would have.

Seriously, I think it's pretty great that they feel comfortable enough to go out in public, even though they know assholes like OP are going to take pictures of them and shame them on the internet. I'm glad they feel OK to just be themselves. That's great if you ask me.

Honestly, confidence is overrated. Anyone can have it when it's unwarranted.

Want to know true confidence? It takes a truly confident person to be humble enough not to special snowflake their fetish or subculture at a public kiosk. Because honestly, nobody gives a fuck either.

It's not brave, it's not special and it just screams "I WANT ATTENTION."

Is it a demo room at a convention? A lot of things like that don't have chairs because they want you to try their product for a few minutes then move on, not get comfy and hog the screen for hours on end.

Thing is, you may be wrong about that, but nobody is going to care enough to find out.

I've been to a lot of conventions, and there are plenty of couples that come there with fox tails, cat ears, unicorn horns and all matter of other cosplay. Hell, some people actually go to these things to meet people with similar interests. Who would have known!

You don't have to try and understand it, but making claims like he will never touch a real woman is pretty ignorant.

People like him are just a more extreme version of the naruto headband people that were around when I was in highschool. I respect his retard courage but I still think it's weird and he's weird for being a furry. I may think he's weird but I don't hate him for it.

Well, if I were into that shit I wouldn't have the balls to wear anything close to that in public. He probably puts up with a lot of assholes hassling him. More power to him.

Still weird, but whatever.

[–]Made_you_read_penis 26ポイント27ポイント  (3子コメント)

Dude it's just a furry.

Some of them don't have sewing talents or money, so this is the basic setup. Pretty much your starter kit (hehe, pun).

Personally I just see an awkward awkward kid that needs to eat a bit more healthy and dress himself better. The furry thing doesn't bother me. I know a lot of furries that are well dressed for their bodies that are actually pretty cool. Yeah they wear costumes, but that's their thing and I don't care.

This kid may be second level awkward, but it looks like he's either in a gaming convention or signing in at an anime convention. Either way, you would be hard pressed not to find an awkward kid like this.

That's what I thought. It looks like this is a smaller gaming tournament, or even just a demo, at a convention of some kind- there are probably way worse get-ups within 30 feet of that guy, but since those are from a comic book or anime, they're not 'weird'.

The fact that he threw on the tail and ears isn't as odd as the jean shorts and shoes-without-socks, in my opinion. He probably would've been indistinguishable from the crowd if he'd worn clothes that matched his body type a bit better.

[–]Made_you_read_penis 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

I have no issue with furries. I really don't. But something about them just makes me really uncomfortable.

Also, y'all motherfuckers need to get off your high horses. This dude has some guts to get out there and be proud of what he enjoys.

I mean, I enjoy being naked, but I understand that people wouldn't get me going to the mall naked. It'd also be incorrect for me to blame them for not accepting me, because I'm breaking all social norms by doing that.

I lived through the 80s. Looking back on what we wore back then, I'm in no place to judge wearing that.

That is a furry. One of my bestfriends is one

Why though? What's the appeal? Just generally curious.

I can't speak for everyone, but the attraction to me is the creativity, be it either drawing, writing, or music the Fandom is full of amazing people. Also furries are more friendly and accepting of people (unlike the majority of ignorant bigots in the comments) so yea you will see a few people that live outside of what society would call "normal".

No, you're just all broken humanity with a terrible habit. Hey, do you know other heroin junkies are more accepting of drug abusers than the majority of ignorant bigots in society? they're also very friendly to people who validate their shared dysfunction.

Escapism, you can be anything. A sly fox, a loyal wolf, a fierce Dragon, a d/d character, a Navi or put on a suit, wear make up. Being a human is boring day to day.

[–]Fyrien 1

Something to keep in mind is that the term "furry" is very broad. It's a blanket statement for people who are interested in anthropormorphic characters (basically, human-like animals). It also doesn't necessarily have to be a sexual thing. I have never dressed up like an animal, and I have absolutely no desire to, yet I still consider myself a furry because I enjoy being a part of the artwork community. There are actually many artists out there who simply participate in the fandom because they can make good money drawing people's fictional characters.

One really great thing about the furry fandom is that nearly everyone is very open and accepting. Social outcasts like the guy in this picture, people with self-image issues, and general misfits aren't discriminated against like they might be in real life. Peoples' weird quirks are often overlooked because the prevailing attitude is, "We have similar interests, let's be friends!" Furry conventions have become popular for this reason. Dressing up allows people to roleplay and interact with others without getting ridiculed for their interests. Artwork is also great for illustrating people's fantasies, because you can commission incredibly talented artists to draw "you" in animal form. Plus, there's some pretty badass artwork out there. Examples: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] (all SFW)

Of course, some weird sexual shit still does happen. But that's characteristic of pretty much any fandom. The best thing to do is ignore the truly bizarre people and remember that they don't represent all furries.

Hope that helps clear some things up! :)

That right there is one overbite that, if corrected at a young age, does not make you become a furry.

The number of people bashing furries on this thread is really fucking terrible.

No, Reddit. You are the demons.

post bugs me a bit only because i am a furry and have been in the fandom for quite a few years now , the comments are pretty wrong , we tend to get a bad rap from a few people , furry is like cosplaying but with your own made up character , just like any other fandom sex happens , people think it happens in costume but not all the time , i wont say i doesnt happen but a large majority of the time it does not , basically what most of us to is free lance mascoting , we go to charity events , last year at a convention we raised over 40,000$ for a exotic animal charity

for the people that question here is my costume : http://imgur.com/kx7leP8 she was hand made and custom made

have any questions ?
