i mean but why is it that people who criticize self diagnosis never criticize the oppressive power structures that make it a necessity for so many individuals??

why is it that we never see them attacking the psychiatric and medical industries which literally have abuse written into their very foundations with anywhere near the vitriol with which they attack 13 year old kids with self-diagnosed adhd???

we all know why.

it’s because these people don’t actually care about the way ableism and racism and misogyny are fundamentally intertwined with the medical and psychiatric fields. it’s because they don’t care that we’re literally dying at the hands of the people who are supposed to protect us, if we’re not dying because we don’t have access to them in the first place.

it’s because they’re more interested in maintaining the status quo than in actually helping disabled people. end of story.
