well technically a lion is a panther. but lions lack the flexibility in their paw/wrist to be able to climb well. they can sometimes climb up, but they have a great difficulty climbing down because their paw and wrist doesn't bend back far enough to make the climb down. their weight doesn't help them either.

i forget, but i think there is a pretty serious anatomical difference between say a leopard's wrist and a lion's.
