Straddle the fence between agnosticism and Buddhism, though probably more towards the former (raised in a devout Buddhist household). I prefer to stay where I am. If I had to choose between hard atheism and theism, though, I'd go with the latter, no question. I suppose I could also consider myself one of those spiritual but not religious people, but I'm not really that spiritual.

Agnostic, but ex-christian (specifically, Roman Catholic and then non-denominational Protestant before leaving the faith). I don't find current theistic arguments very convincing, but I'm also epistemologically open (shit, I almost decided to believe in reincarnation a couple of weeks ago, which is a stretch for me). Were I more settled in a (for lack of a better term) naturalistic worldview, I'd feel more comfortable identifying as atheist, but here we are

Raised Lutheran, fell away from Christianity and became an Atheist in my teens and early 20s and now am a Mahayana Buddhist with also some influences from German Idealist philosophy.

I was the stereotypical rAtheist until my stepdad died in 2009 and I had an existential crisis because of it. Ran into the book *When Things Fall Apart" by the Buddhist nun Pema Chodron and the rest was history.

Was it difficult to transition into Buddhism's metaphysical system (i.e. karma, rebirth, etc)? I've come very close to accepting these elements in the recent past, but they just seem so out there. I see a reasonable argument to support their existence, but it seems too strange from my perspective to accept it.

Also, how has your life been affected by your practice?

Oh, yes, I was in the "Buddhist Atheist" limbo for a long time and I am only just now starting to get out of it after some deep thinking about the so-called "Hard Problem of Consciousness" and coming to the conclusion that consciousness cannot simply be reduced to material explanations.

Also, how has your life been affected by your practice?

Well, I take the Precepts seriously, so have given up alcohol, refuse to take jobs that involve killing sentient beings, don't be promiscuous, etc.

I'm not sure where I stand with consciousness, so I won't try to argue against the hard problem. However, lots of religions recognize that the mind isn't just material. Why accept Buddhism then? Or were you mostly in the Buddhist camp and then considerations of consciousness got you in the full way?

Also, do you ever intend to join a monastery or do you plan to just be an observant layperson?

I recently became a Baha'i, but I also studied religion academically (BA Religious Studies). My focus academically is Islam rather than Baha'i, but before all that, I was a militant atheist.

That's awesome. Care to elaborate how you came to Baha'i?

I'm pretty staunchly atheist. To me, most atheists haven't escaped religion. Humanists, especially, by switching the subject of object of God have reconstituted God as Mankind to create the most vile tyranny of the mind in which we find ourselves ruled by the fixed idea of Humanity, destroying our individuality and uniqueness.

Basically, I'm a big fan of Stirner.

Agnostic here. How are you so sure that God/gods don't exist?

Roman Catholic, albeit not a good one (haven't been to confession and communion for 8/9 years). I go to church with some regularity.

I am considered to be a 'cafeteria Catholic' (e.g. I've always sat on the fence about abortion, and I'm ok with birth control). However, I'm not fond of the agressive, anti-religious/anti-theist type of secularism.

Raised in a Methodist family here in Texas with close friends that were mainly either Baptist or Catholic who I attended services with as well so I hold of the view of being a Christian before a specific denomination.

I'm somewhere between a Hindu and an agnostic. I identify as a Hindu for a few reasons, mainly to keep my devout parents happy, since I really haven't told them I have a hard time believing and I don't think they'd want to know.

There was a strange set of circumstances that led me to stop truly believing in Hinduism, and sometimes when I sit and think about it, I feel like there's something missing in my life by not having a religion.

On the existence of gods, I'm agnostic. On the rites and belief systems that involve gods, I don't really distinguish them from cultural practices and cultural notions that do not involve gods.
