Straddle the fence between agnosticism and Buddhism, though probably more towards the former (raised in a devout Buddhist household). I prefer to stay where I am. If I had to choose between hard atheism and theism, though, I'd go with the latter, no question. I suppose I could also consider myself one of those spiritual but not religious people, but I'm not really that spiritual.

Agnostic, but ex-christian (specifically, Roman Catholic and then non-denominational Protestant before leaving the faith). I don't find current theistic arguments very convincing, but I'm also epistemologically open (shit, I almost decided to believe in reincarnation a couple of weeks ago, which is a stretch for me). Were I more settled in a (for lack of a better term) naturalistic worldview, I'd feel more comfortable identifying as atheist, but here we are

Raised Lutheran, fell away from Christianity and became an Atheist in my teens and early 20s and now am a Mahayana Buddhist with also some influences from German Idealist philosophy.

I was the stereotypical rAtheist until my stepdad died in 2009 and I had an existential crisis because of it. Ran into the book *When Things Fall Apart" by the Buddhist nun Pema Chodron and the rest was history.

Was it difficult to transition into Buddhism's metaphysical system (i.e. karma, rebirth, etc)? I've come very close to accepting these elements in the recent past, but they just seem so out there. I see a reasonable argument to support their existence, but it seems too strange from my perspective to accept it.

Also, how has your life been affected by your practice?

I recently became a Baha'i, but I also studied religion academically (BA Religious Studies). My focus academically is Islam rather than Baha'i, but before all that, I was a militant atheist.

That's awesome. Care to elaborate how you came to Baha'i?
