What fuckin lazy devs! I had so much hope for this game and as time goes on, more and more problems come to light. People need to band together and stop creating new characters so we can end this mediocre shit stain excuse of modern game development. Future devs need to learn from past game's mistakes. I mean look at this! They can't even get the main character's model right! Just utterly disgusting.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I have friends from there and they claim that being fat is a sign of wealth over there.

American Samoa and other Island nations which get America's lower quality food and by-products actually. But as far as OECD countries it's definitely America.

Its not exactly fair to compare the USA or any western country to an island or desert where a large portion of food comes from pre-packaged items because they cannot grow 90% of foodstuffs.

The most apt comparison is rate of obesity in USA versus Can, UK, NZ, Aus (angospheric countries) versus China and Russia (super powers) and the EU & some of developed Asia ('developed' nations).

The U.K. male fashion scene could really up the game on this. Hell, they could fit at least three little boys in that outfit.

Everyone is talking about fat Americans, but I want to think that the reason for this comment is that people would lose their minds if a man's head came that close to a vagina in public.

Oh I get it. Americans are fat. Ha ha ha

Oh come on, any time someone takes a shot at American stereotypes people get real defensive. But most here are more than happy to take shots at other countries, I see countless bad teeth jokes about English and coward jokes about the French...

Cause they're American themselves probably. Fun at the expense of others is fun but this hits too close home.

This is Rick Owens once again taking the piss out of the fashion industry. The best part is, people eat it up. Here is another one of his 'creations' (nsfw)

EDIT: Since my post is near the top, I'll add /u/TheApexRedditor's comment for the real inspiration for this.

It's easy to take out of context for internet points, so allow me to rein it in a little.

Inspired by the influential artist Leigh Bowery carrying his wife Nicola in a harness, Leigh's had a profound effect on the arts, London nightlife in the 80's and fashion in particular. http://imgur.com/ejydMa4

Also, the context of the show itself with the singers and such, is arguably quite beautiful, I'd urge you to watch it even if, rather especially if, you usually dislike fashion.

Wait so every fashion designer isn't trolling the industry? Some of that stupid shit has serious intentions?

Well, some of it can have serious intentions without being something that they actually expect anyone to actually wear. At least, the impression I get is that these kinds of wacky fashion shows are more art shows where the art is clothing than they are previews of what the biggest trends in fashion are going to be (maybe they influence fashion trends, but it's not like someone's gonna show up to a party wearing this stuff).

That doesn't mean some of it's not ridiculous, but I think a lot of this stuff should be judged in the same way you'd judge an exhibit at an art gallery, rather than how you'd judge the clothing sold at a store.

You've kinda hit the nail on the head, although runway pieces like those generally end up influencing the later clothing lines, just in small ways.

Runway shows are to showcase tailoring, ideas, and concepts

You're paying for the brand name too, prices are usually high when it's a designer item.

Brand/designer, cost of materials and labor in a first world country, plus the time of a high fashion artist compared to an intern designing a graphic tee.

UGH HOW DARE SOMEONE PAY $2000 FOR A COAT *spends $2000 to build a computer*

Hello, I would like to have a civil discussion about this subject as someone with no interest but a lot of fascination about the fashion industry. I want to preface by saying I fully respect everything about fashion even if I don't understand it. I figure that the fact the industry is so big indicates there is something that other know that I don't which is fine.

Anyway, my question though is about how some of these seemingly absurd prices come about. One argument against the statement about computers is about diminishing returns what your investing. A computer has very real and measurable performance improvements at higher costs, but it seems to me like theres only so much you can do with the quality of a coat. I've had coats for maybe 80$ that have lasted me many years with no signs of degrading so it leads me to question just how much you really need even higher quality material to make it. The basic assumption that I've come to about it (which can be wrong) is that high fashion is purchased more as if were art that you wear rather than fully for its function of just clothing.

Another problem for my understanding is that personally I have very little care put into the way I look most of the time. I don't care very much about what most people think of me, most of the time, so I doesn't bother me necessarily if I "Look bad or Unfashionable". I realise I'm probably in minority in this and I don't think its a good or bad thing necessarily to care or not care about that sort of thing.

Anyway, theres a lot of yelling contests about the whole thing in the rest of this thread which I don't what to be apart of but I am fascinated so I wanted to discuss it as politely as possible.

Hi! Thanks for coming at this in good faith, something a lot of people are strangely unable to do

Tons of factors influence pricing of clothing, a simple one to understand would be production (both who is producing it and what it's made of). A piece of clothing made by children in China is going to be much cheaper than a piece of clothing made by fairly paid adults in Japan or Sweden or something. A coat made of polyester is going to be cheaper than a coat made of vicuña wool. It's called overhead, which more or less means the overall price of creating something, with all things like materials and labor factored in. There was a leather jacket maker I used to like that could sell high quality leather jackets for about half the price of what they'd cost if manufactured by a designer simply because it was just a small group of dudes making them and taking orders, it just came at the cost of long wait times because they don't have a huge team of people creating jackets that they need to pay.

Less clear factors are things like design, exclusivity, etc. People buy a Louis Vuitton bag for the LV printed all over it, you can copy designs in fashion but logos are protected by copyright law, which is why LV does this, to make them hard to fake. People want things like this as a status symbol, and while these things do have high production value they still wouldn't be worth their price tag if all you factored in was labor and materials. Exclusivity is something people pay for, I'm not a big fan of the mindset but I can completely understand why people do this. Design is another thing, designer fashion is often ripped by fast fashion stores like zara or h&m but the design is rarely if ever as good, plus the quality is such that it will fall apart within a few years and retain absolutely no retail value whatsoever. I'd rather have something with an extremely unique design that also has a very high production quality and was made by well paid adults living in first world nations rather than contribute to child labor. I also like that if I ever get bored of something, I can quickly and easily resell it for a lot of money, I've actually made money off of a lot of the clothing I've bought and sold.

It's completely fine if you don't care about how you look, but in dressing that way you're still making a statement, that statement being "I don't care about how I look". Nobody is free of fashion regardless of how badly they'd like to disagree, how you dress says something about how you think or feel because you made the conscious decision to put those clothes on. I'd rather the clothes I wear say positive things about me, since an ugly truth of the world is that everybody is judging you based on how you present yourself physically.

I'm tired as hell so I probably neglected to mention things I otherwise would have, but hopefully this provided at least a little bit of insight

Alright then, it pretty much reaffirms most of what I already thought about the whole industry.

I try to be as open minded as possible about basically everything in life, it's just that fashion was one of the things that was always hardest to wrap my head around because of how little, not only mine but other people's appearances mattered to me, which in itself is an idea that I've realised not many people share, at least to the extend I do.

I've always felt kind of like I was colourblind about the whole thing.

Anyway, thanks for the insight

Any my nan has a £100 computer that has done exactly what she wanted it to do for years without breaking.

You're not the demographic

I know, hence the discussion

I can somewhat help you out. I used to question designer clothing on the regular. This time last year I was wearing cargo shorts and bright orange running shoes. Now as I'm typing the piece in my outfit range from $120-200. There is honestly a massive increases in quality when you step up to designer level. You will never have loose glue, missed stitching, or poor fabric. You are often paying for the quality, the design, and most important in my opinion, FAIR WAGES. In most fashion houses you have skilled artistans making these garments which extreme detail. As far as people dropping 2k on something I can't speak for that amount of money but I feel when you are seeing a 20k Valentino dress 2 doesn't seem like much. When you purchase something like this it's a one time thing, such as a boat or new PC.

I hope I explained well
