Fandoms: a giant mess but mostly Les Mis stuff

Something we can take away from Hamilton’s PHENOMENAL success: unless a show (i.e. Hairspray, The Color Purple, In the Heights, West Side Story, Othello) specifically has parts that have to be for a certain race for the show’s plot to work, there is absolutely no excuse for not doing raceblind casting. No more all white Les Mis, no more all white Newsies, no more ultra white British Shakespeare, no more playing favorites when it doesn’t matter to the show’s story at all.  Who the fuck is honestly concerned with historical accuracy and isn’t just being a giant bigot about nonwhite actors? Anyone? Hamilton somehow works perfectly well though all of the slaver Founding Fathers are played by black men, so directors really cannot make the excuse of “it doesn’t work, wah!” anymore.
