高速道で自動運転へ トヨタ、２０２０年めどに投入
トヨタ自動車は６日、高速道路を自動で運転してくれるシステムを２０２０年をめどに投入すると発表した。自動で速度が遅い前の車を追い越したり、高速道に合流したり、高速道から一般道に出たりしてくれる。「技術発信の場」とする東京五輪に実用化を間に合わせ、世界にアピールしたい考えだ。
レクサスのセダン「ＧＳ」を改造した試作車を報道関係者に公開した。従来より精度の高い地図を搭載し、車載のカメラとレーザーレーダーで周りの車の位置を把握しながら走る。トヨタはすでに、高速道のカーブでも同じ車線を保つよう、自動でハンドルを切る技術を１７年をめどに投入する方針を明らかにしていたが、車線をまたぐ自動運転も可能にする考えだ。
高速道の入り口から出口まで運転手が操作しなくても走れることになるが、路上にトラックの積み荷が転がったりした場合は、手動で運転する必要があり、完全に「車任せ」にはならない。吉田守孝専務役員は「ハードルは高いが、より高いレベルの自動運転の実現に向けて開発を進めていく」と話した。
