      Yeah I went on it 3 times in one day forking out for a fast pass each time. They've been testing it daily recently with water dummies (vids on insta/YouTube/twitter). There's also pics of staff cleaning the queue line. A lot of people speculate it will be opened up for Halloween or at least next season.

            Oblivion is a gimmick ride. The ride itself is a slow climb, the vertical fall followed by a turn back into the station. The drop itself is "okay", you feel unease the first time you're at the drop, which they hold for a few seconds.

            It isn't one for repeat trips though, and certainly isn't worth the hype built up around it back when it first came out.

            Honestly, Nemisis and Air are -far- better.

            Gimmick short rides are great, they're cheap to produce so their fun-to-cost ratio is insane. I had elaborate designs in Roller Coaster Tycoon with inverted spins, loops and the works but the ride that drew the crowds was a short water ride with a single drop.

              Holy shit, this looks like the dream game.

              • Custom pathing. So glad to be away from cookie-cutter segments and have nolimits-like tools.
              • Peeps update. I always hated how lost & dazed they can be, looks like they fixed it! Theming now does more than aesthetics too!
              • Updated graphics & better performance. If I can get a controllable peep and a VR camera this couldn't get any better.
              • Steam workshop. Hoooooly Sheeeet. Think of all the mods that can be made. I'll have to see what applications make these, a zombie shooter or futurism mod would be awesome.

              Normally I don't preorder, but I might have to make an exception for this game.

              not sure scripting wise, but for models, if unity supports it, you can use it to make a ride.

              later on you will be able to make guests like/dislike your ride, and make themes that guests will be able to respond to in a similar fashion.

                  I agree that Nemesis and Air are better, but Oblivion gets my blood pumping more than any other ride. I've been on it loads of times now but my heart still stops every time it drops. It's such a sudden drop.

                  The real gimmick ride at Alton Towers is Rita. Also Hex, that's total wank.

                  The most underrated is definitely Spinball Whizzer. Way more fun than people expect, so there's usually a relatively small queue.

                    i agree with you on Oblivion though, i think its short ride time and THAT FEELING when you start to drop make it great for repeat rides.

                      Calling it a gimmick is a doing it a bit of a disservice. It was the first rollercoaster of its type and it is almost 20 years old. Most things in life don't hold up to their hype for 20 years.

                      Nemesis is older, and built by the same manufacturer, but that type of coaster had already had a few other designs to help improve it.

                        I've been on it, it's awesome. Alton Towers in the UK. And yes, that's the place with the Smiler, the ride that crashed and cut off some legs. I also went on that one pre leg-smashing incident.

                        It is probably their most popular ride, or at least it was the last time I went. They've added plenty new ones since then but I think Oblivion is one the classics - when I went while no else was there I went on it four times in a row. Loads of fun every time.

                        It's a big hole. You can see it's a hole when you're on the ride so you don't really feel like you're going to hit the ground. You just see this big, dark pit with most swirling around. It's pretty cool.

                        Yeah, it's really well done. It takes ages to get up there, goes down a winding track to the drop, drops forwards so you point towards the hole, stops for a second in which a voice says 'DON'T LOOK DOWN' (Which is written on the floor in front of the hole) and then you drop.

                                      You are indeed correct. It's the only coaster at the Towers I won't go on, simply because the anticipation / payoff isn't a good enough ratio for me. It scares me a lot, but is over in five seconds flat so isn't worth the dread.

                                      Swarm at Thorpe Park epitomises this for me. The first time I went on it I was at the front and I genuinely feared for my life at the top of the drop. Amazing ride.

                                      That's a shame, in my opinion Oblivion is one of the best rides in the country. It sets you up so well with the long hill up to the station. Then when you start going up to the drop, your sat at like 45 degrees moving so slowly. It builds the tension perfectly.

                                        Oblivion has a low anticipation:payoff ratio, but the scare makes it worth it for me.

                                        Spinball Whizzer has a ridiculously high anticipation:payoff ratio, because no one thinks it's any good, but it's ridiculously fun.

                                        I went on it shortly after it opened, it kept getting stuck with folk on it while I was waiting in the queue. Still went on it though, it was fun.

                                        But that Corkscrew can go fuck itself, I went on it, it was kind of meh after going on Air, everyone got off at the end except me, as my harness got stuck half way open and wouldn't let me out, when suddenly the carriage started going along the track again, with only me on it, and my harness half open. Thing stopped after about 20 foot but I fucking shat myself, I thought I was going to die.

                                                              I love POV roller coaster videos. I've been obsessed with roller coasters since I was a kid and the obsession hasn't dwindled a bit. Hoping to get to at least a couple of my favorite parks in the spring since I didn't this year and the season is almost over.

                                                              Love when you're there when that happens. I was on Magnum XL-200, a 200ft tall coaster at Cedar Point near Lake Erie. Anyone who's ridden this knows there's hill after hill after hill that will try to buck you off. You have a lap bar thankfully so the worst thing that happens are some banged knees, but sunglasses don't have that luxury. It was funny watching them bounce on someone's head up ahead, right until they flew off. Unfortunately we could not grab them and they're most likely sitting on the Lake Erie beach today.

                                                                  This is Alton Towers in the UK. I went there when i was a kid with my dad and they had just opened this attraction, called Oblivion.

                                                                  Super awesome, i recommend it to anyone. 90 Degree vertical free fall into a hole in the ground. Best part was always that it took long enough to fall that everyone had stopped screaming right before the hole, because they ran out of breath.

                                                                  The vertical drop is actually 87 degrees. The technology wasn't quite available quite yet but later coasters with similar designs actually went to 90.

                                                                    Alton towers is actually heavily controlled on what they can do by the local town. They aren't allowed to build higher than the treeline, and if I remember correctly, they give free tickets to locals.

                                                                    Alton is a veeeery old village, the site of a stately home or castle if you will, named Alton Towers, the theme park repurposed the grounds and the tower.
