Text post since this isnt OC, took it from FB. As you can see its the ICG triggered by the knee. If you are the creator of this gif and want me to take this post down I will.

thanks for this. i could never find much detailed information about this glitch before your post. now i just hope people label it a gimmick so they rationalize not learning the matchup so that i can then learn and utilize this newfound, very non-situational, kill setup.

You should really thank /u/Sycorax83. He was the one who did all the research on this article. I was just familiar with this glitch and was able to recreate it really quickly. It also applies to all characters as you can see in the gifs at the bottom. You just need to be able to interrupt them while they still have shield knockback momentum.

As somebody who hasn't seen the match yet yet, maybe an explanation please? Like why is the knee "icg" thing important.

Icg stands for invisible ceiling glitch, which negates knockback on moves used against luigi at a certain point. It can be intentionally activated, and in this case, it was activated by the downsmash on shield followed by the knee.

If you want context, in one of the games of abate vs s2j, this happened on the last stock almost exactly as recreated.

If im being honest with myself he (S2J) 100% deserved the win IMO, but I cant not cheer for luigi so I was somewhat happy it happened lmao

ICG can be intentionally set up. Abate did another crucial ICG in his next match against Duck. -- It follows that Abate may be doing this on purpose.

If Abate is doing this on purpose, then he created the situation that caused him to win.

It follows that if Abate knows about it then S2J can also know about it and plan accordingly.

S2J being a top level competitor therefore SHOULD have known, and should not have Yolo Dair'd. He should have let Luigi land to reset the glitch.

Since this phenomenon is 1) Known & 2) Can be recreated and 3) Can be worked around and 4) Abate likely set up the situation that allowed him to win...

It follows that Abate deserves the win.

Also if you look at the clip abate doesn't look too surprised when it happens, although he does look pretty surprised/excited when he won, but one could argue that he just made that expression cause he won. But when the glitch happens he kinda nods and doesn't freak out or anything
