Today I've decided to preemptively ban users who openly promote the idea and show interest towards brigading this subreddi in the below linked thread:

Bans like this go against what I fundamentally believe in. I've always held the opinion that it is both wrong and cancerous to ban people for what they say in other subreddits and I still do even if it sounds hypocritical in regards to these bans.

Another opinion I've openly stood by is my belief that it sometimes is acceptable to sacrifice a few to save many. As I see it, we either allow these people to purposefully change this community in an unnatural way or we throw them in the pit and protect the community that has naturally been created.

This subreddit has never had a political stand and has always stood for free-speech. The subreddit has always been what the community has made it to be and if the subreddit changes naturally to one direction or another, so be it. But I will not have it change by force. Especially when the underlying philosophy of such a forced change is to drive a politically correct agenda with the sole purpose of forcing people to conform to the "norm".

Because of this I've decided to ban each user (in the above linked thread) who promotes a systematic flooding of this subreddit. I'd also like to make it clear that I made this decision on my own as the founder of this subreddit. The other moderators had nothing to do with it.

Transparency is however one of the fundamental components of this subreddit and therefore I want to openly bring this to your attention. The users that have been banned are:

Professional_Bob
TheBigCon4800
newheart_restart
MaxNanasy

As we do not tolerate members of our own community to brigade using our subreddit as a platform to do so, we owe it to our community to protect them when the reverse is true and in this case it is blatantly obvious.

I'm also sure that this decision has disappointed some of you and I apologies for that. I do however promise that this will not become the norm and that this is an action taken towards a specific incident.

It has taken a lot of work to create a space where Europeans can speak freely and I'll be damned if I let the same forces that were the driving force in the creation of this subreddit to destroy it.

Please note

These users are currently permanently banned and will stay so unless they ask for it to be lifted. The ban will however only be lifted if the user in question gives a good enough reason to why I should lift the ban.

Speaking as somebody who loves being challenged by progressive types and would be quite happy for there to be more smug liberal types here so they could be exposed to all the various hatefacts that their worldview is founded upon ignoring, this disappoints me. In the specific case you mentioned, I understand your actions and I think it is a shame that people cannot come here with the requisite respect without needing in some way to destroy or permanently change us.

Maybe if /r/european wasn't constantly accused of "brigading" by opportunist liars, it wouldn't be necessary to do extreme things in order to defend the sub in this way - but I guess that's just what happens when you have a reputation for being openly non-progressive. Others are going to try and destroy you regardless of anything you could say to them out of a dishonest loyalty to their tribe.

I think progressivism has a lot of historical context to it and is in a lot of cases a self description, whereas if I called them Cultural Marxists, they would just laugh at me and my ability to engage with them would be dampened.

To be clear, I think that progressivism and being a progressive implies "progress" about as much as being a Scientologist implies being a great scientist.

I do not understand why these Americans are so obsessed with a European sub. The vast majority of them will never come here for longer than a 'vacation of a lifetime'. It is most odd.

Honestly maybe "fempire" subs users like SRS SRD topminds etc should warrant a stop mechanism where they can't post until they message you. Can you make a bot for that? We should have let them come here and see how they'd behave. Banning them gives more ammo if I say that /r/european is a free speech subreddit. They can just say that the admin banned people who wanted to talk about leftist issues.

Somebody posts an article from the BBC which says that 80% of the migrants are women or children or whatever bullshit. The post gets swiftly downvoted by the 174 people here right now according to the counter below the subscribe button. If they start shilling with multiple accounts you could easily ban them, since you have a reason then.

I personally think that you should unban them and send them a PM inviting them here to discuss whatever European problems they want to discuss. Except poopghetti, if he/she is indeed evading bans.

The last comment one of them made here was linked to SRD and brigaded to +170. Keep in mind we are dealing with a collection of meta-subreddits that do nothing but this sort of thing.

It looks like this is a co-ordinated brigade so I can see how a mod might view this but I am also of the opinion that you don't need to pre-emptively ban people in this situation.

  1. I don't think they would actually follow through on it as they would not be committed. It was more of a "wouldn't it be great, lol" idea and...
  2. Let's see what they post. Let there be debate and let people counter things. Otherwise this sub gets boring and we could attract more mixed subscribership. I don't want a sub that is just one-sided. I just want a sub that is censorship free.

"Free speech" subreddit /r/european has preemptive bans for users suggesting posting non-racist content about Europe. If /r/europe preemtively banned posters on /r/european since they only post racist content on their subreddit would that be okay? Top mind "free speech" is only their views.
