Do you or I, as nonhuman people, face daily abuse for being otherkin? Are we raped, beaten or murdered right on the street just for what we believe? Are we denied basic rights and freedoms because we believe that a part of us may be something other then human? 

Are we continually victimized as a group, treated as if we were subhuman things, or socially beaten down by stereotypes?

No?

Then we are not fucking oppressed.

No one can even tell if you are otherkin unless you start shooting your mouth off about it.

At most, we may be looked down on for being “mentally ill” or for having an alternative spirituality. Thats it. Oh yeah and *gasp* people make fun of us on the internets.

Honestly, ‘Kin, You’re only bringing the trouble onto yourselves. I can say, truthfully, that I have never ever been even bullied for being a therian, on the internet or otherwise. Why?

It’s not that I don’t tell people or mention it, hell, all of my good friends know. Even some people I hardly know at all are okay with it when the subject comes up in passing. 

Sure, they may initially cringe at the mention of otherkin, but once I explain it for them and explain exactly what it means to me, they are perfectly fine about it. 

That’s simply because I don’t make it a big deal. I don’t go whining that I’m oppressed or looked down upon. I don’t sit there and bitch that ohh my god its soo unfair that I was born in the wrong body or You dont understaannd I really am a cat. That’s not the way to go about it. 

Generally, I link them to this decent definition. Than, go further into it about how it’s connected to my belief in reincarnation and spirituality and you know what? Big surprise, people are willing to listen when you explain things rationally and calmly.  

Basic point here: They won’t make it a big deal if you don’t.

A few of my friends know and that’s about it.

3.   How old were you when you realized you were not human? What made you realize it? 
Well, to be fair, I’m human. It’s more a part of me that isn’t, be it my spirit or my soul. I’m not really sure, I’ve always been an oddball, following around the cats and dogs and pretending to be them. I discovered therianthropy when I was about 15 years old. 

4.   Do you identify as a part of the “otherkin”, or, “therian” community? What communities do you identify with?
I consider myself part of both communities, though therian more than otherkin. I’m not really in any other communities though? Unless you count fandoms but we won’t get into that. 

5.   Tell the story of the first person you came out to.
I actually first came out to an ex I was dating at the time. He was alright with it and even seemed to try to pander to the more feline side of myself. Sometimes pointing out the odd, more cat-like things I do. 

6.   Have you faced any abuse because of identifying not human?
Nope, not at all. Everyone I’ve told about it has been pretty accepting. 

7.   Do you have a favorite non-human character?
Hmm, Not that I can think of off of the top of my head D:

8.   Do you believe there should be non-human pride? What do you imagine it being like?
I don’t really see a reason for it? I mean it would probably be pretty fun :D I imagine all of the different species and kintypes just forming their own little groups and talking and having gun.

9.    What does being not human mean to you?
Well, as said before I know that, atleast in body, I’m human. But, to me, it’s a spiritual belief. That in a past life (most likely my first life), I was a cat. Because of that, I’ll always have that inside of. A spirits first life is the one they are bonded to the strongest :)

10.   What have other people said about your non-human nature?
Not much, really. A few people have said that I act like a cat anyway so it’s no surprise. I think one of the most flattering comments when I was staying over with a few people at a friends apartment and woke up to them talking about how it was adorable that I sleep like a cat.

11.   If you’re out, talk about the most accepting person you’ve come out to. If you’re not out, talk about what you would hope a coming out experience would be like.
Probably a fandom buddy who I’ll let remain anonymous. He’s a fantastic friend and thinks that it’s really cool.

I’m not really that close with any other non-humans? I’m talking to some pretty quality otherkin right now though :3

More or less, yeah.

Well I’m almost absurdly affectionate. If I like you, you’ll know it. There’s nothing better than curling up beside someone you feel safe and comfortable around and just being close to them.

Simply put, reincarnation and past-lives.

I think it’s mostly the frustration of being stuck inside of the wrong body. It just feels really wrong.
