I guess I shouldn't be surprised that reddit is full of censorship now but this is ridiculous

If you are reading this, please report to Friend Computer for reassignment.

It should be obvious to any citizen that this document is classified level BLUE.

If your classification is below level BLUE, please report to clone vat five for protein retention and reconstitution.

Clone #2

Okay, let's do this!

>Steps out of clone tank and onto an ultraviolet line.

>Is immediately disintegrated

I just stared at this comment for a minute, is this shit the matrix?

Why, you paranoid?

Edit: can't link properly because of a formatting conflict: https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia_(role-playing_game)

[–]Please_Pass_The_Milk 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

You have nothing to fear, unless you're a mutant or a member of a secret society.

But you're not, right? You're one of the good ones.

(you are in fact both a mutant and a member of a secret society, but what Friend Computer doesn't know doesn't hurt you)

I think it was removed for not asking the question properly, IE something that /r/askreddit would allow would be "Hey Reddit, what's your favourite replacement for Reddit?"

This question would be acceptable in /r/answers

So is this the result of you guys doing it to yourselves by kicking out Pao?

Seems like the censors are okay with racism however.

Surely they can find a way to monetise the site without alienating the user base. . ?

What a joke this site has become.

I've been staring at the same shit for a day and a half. I tried unsubbing to smaller subs, subbing to more subs, idk what here anymore. I found out about the Oregon tragedy because TuneIn sent an alert out.

Didn't the CEO (or somebody) just do an AMA where he flat out said that there weren't any changes to the algorithm? Did we all just decide that it's not fast enough anymore? Every time I log on, it's the same shit I just saw.

Reddit Leadership is entirely full of shit. They don't answer to their users, they answer to the investors. They can say whatever they want to us.

Yup, they want the fake, sponsored, vote manipulatd posts to stay at the top longer so that they are worth more money.

And the corporate shilling is just blatant at this point. They're even being preemptive in censoring posts that could cost them potential sponsors.

Yep, this fucking post was on the top of /r/funny the other day.

Never forget reddit and imgur have the same sponsors.

At least imgur doesn't hide the fact that it's advertising to you. They straight up tell you it's a promoted post.

The worst part is when people will say "so what? it's funny!" and just welcome advertising as content

A lot of that sentiment you see is inorganic. Most people find advertising very intrusive.

I'll take voat's racist drama over that kind of disrespectful advertising anyday. http://voat.co

People are absolutely LOVING our Reddit pilot !!!

The amount of commercials I see posted on the front page and what not is boggling.

Do you think there is a sub that keeps track of these types of post like hw undelete keeps track of deleted ones? I really do think that there's a ton but when I try to find hard evidence, I can't.

I would really, really like to know the extent that reddit makes money off of these native product placements.

You mean like /r/HailCorporate ?

The problem with hail corporate is that it's somewhat overly sensitive where any mention of a company is marked. A funny corporate ad doesn't necessarily mean that someone paid reddit for the post/upvotes or whatever. /r/undelete put the tag as to why the post was deleted. I'd want /r/hailcorporate to sort of give a rating on the likelihood of the post being a shill vs accidental product placing.

Man, you must be new if you still haven't heard or /r/hailcorporate. You'll love it there.

It's pretty bad when 4 chan beats everyone to the news story. They knew a whole day in advance of literally every news outlet.

And yet we still have no valid alternative to reddit. . .

I have yet to see anyone prove that it's slower now. All I see is a bunch of circle jerking.

I'm not sure how we could go about proving it. Maybe somebody smarter than me can weigh in. What we do know is there have been volumes of anecdotal complaints and an acknowledged algorithm change so where there is smoke there is fire.

Edit: word

The CEO has lied in every answer he's given on every issue since he's taken over

But those checks he's cashing don't lie.

#IGotMineMotherfuckers

Yup and plenty of users try to say we're all crazy and just blindly believed him. It's obviously different, something has changed

Actually they did say they adjusted the algorithm and that it was likely causing the delays ands that they would be working to fix the flow -- but obviously that hasn't happened.

Isn't reddit open source? Shouldn't we be able to just look at the algorithm?

The main software is open source, but as with any open-source implementation, they've created their own custom modifications, which includes the algorithm, that can be maintained independently and privately in-house.

I found out about the Oregon tragedy because of CNN. I mean wtf, seriously.

I don't know whats going on but there's a LoL thread that's 15 minutes old sitting at #1 on all, where are the news threads we used to see?

Really? Last night (EU), before I went to bed, the very top post on my front page was "active shooter in Oregon". I think it was on /r/news. The oldest news I found on google was 19 hours ago which is around the same time I saw the post. Maybe an hour or two before.

Breaking news used to hit #1 almost instantly due to the velocity of commenting and voting. The death of Michael Jackson had all the top 3 spots in under 10 minutes.

[–]Raqn 0

I just saw a league of legends post at #1 on all after being submitted 7 minutes ago. The algorithm is normal, people just arent as active on the news subreddits anymore.

I've been staring at the same shit for a day and a half.

Screen shot? Lets see some of these 36 hour old posts

one day =24 hours

half day = 12 hours

one day + half day = 36 hours

whoops, haven't had my coffee yet. edited.

does the lack of coffee cause you to forget how many hours are in a day(and a half day) or does it make you incapable of double digit addition?

It feels like its Digg™ing itself into a grave

Nah. People had prime excuses to leave a few months back and no one did. At this point it is like facebook, there are so many people here if you go somewhere else you will be out of the loop. It is sad really. I did the voat.co thing for a a while and it was essentially the same. Maybe it is time to give it another go.

The changes here were no where near the drastic overhaul of Digg. Digg became a completely different site overnight.

They've learned to go slow and steady this time. That way the frogs don't jump out of the pot of water.

Reddit isn't going to suffer a catastrophic death, just a slow painful decline. This algorithm change might actually be more serious than they think. The problem is, if the front page is the same for a long period of time, people will stop coming as often (maybe still come to reddit, just not spend the day on it). Sure, those people who stop coming are going to be your hardcore (which still counts for a unique view the same as everyone, so reddit might not care), but those people are ALSO your content creators.

Content will start to decline, discussion will start to decline, and more and more people won't find it entertaining to come here anymore (even if there IS no great alternative). Eventually you will see a mass exodus, just happening over time instead of in one go.

Gotta make sure the paid posts generate that value.

The top comments on top news stories are "Why didn't I see this on Reddit first?"

That's the real joke.

what's the punchline again?

See you at the front page kids. To bad it's going to take a while to get there.

Hope my upvote helps. We are all counting on you.

I don't know what's going on but there's a LoL thread that's 15 minutes old sitting at #1 on all, where are the news threads we used to see do the same?

Surprisingly only took a couple of hours.

And we'll be there all week

I'm not seeing this on the front page anymore.

Even if OP was wrong like some say, why delete it? They should have answered, this is shocking.

Nobody believes the answer that the CTO of Reddit gave (which is that the algorithm is unchanged). It has been brought up a dozen times and answered, but people keep repeating it.

I've noticed in the morning it isn't terrible, however as the day goes on my frontpage gets more stale/static, right now the average age of my front page is a bit over 9 hours but I've had it closer to 20+

It's weird, I today I even saw stuff high up that was there yesterday afternoon...

Really mines 3, 4 , 4, 3, 5, 7 hours old from the top.

Well, if people keep seeing results to the contrary, then they're going to keep talking about it, whether they're right or not.

[–]Lucas_Steinwalker 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Ironic that Reddit is strangling itself its mistrust of anecdotal evidence.

The algorithm hasn't changed since the last time we changed it.

Good to know, CTO.

So now they're backed into a corner where they either have to hide the truth or admit that they lied

Well, do we know who deleted it?

It says removed, not deleted, I believe that means a mod or admin had to do it.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it was a mod acting for reddit or a reddit admin who deleted it.

Head mod is an admin. Go figure.

It beaks rule 5 by pushing an agenda is what I gathered from reading the comments. Askreddit probably doesn't want to become political and even shittier

Because when the Admins answer questions, the response is very typically "No, you're lying to the users"

They have answered. It's just circle jerking at this point.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Holy shit this is hilarious and pathetic

EDIT: We're getting close to the front page, let's streisand effect the shit out of this!

EDIT2: Also we got moderators trying to defend the deletion with some bullshit reason about it having a bad title. Even if I could swallow that load of crap, it's still wrong and quite convenient that the only solution you have for problems like that is a complete censorship of the post and the thousands of comments.

Here's a groundbreaking idea, why not let them edit the fucking title? You guys are finally making new mod tools, let that be one of them.

>implying they are spending money to improve the site

[–]Beareh 4

Implying that they care about us

Horrible title on AskReddit? Nah. That never happens.

[deleted]

why not let them edit the fucking title?

Since Reddit's new algorithm is so fantastic, why not enjoy the front page with a refreshing Coke? Share a Coke with Reddit™

    You can't edit the title.

It's not like that's an impossible programming challenge, it's just a policy.

Holy fuck. Fuck reddit. Instead of getting shit together they just hide it all. Sad, very sad.

The first step of mourning is denial.

This is what the plutocracy that owns rediit have told them to do.

Please, run all your users off for us

I wondered where this thread went. I had just asked about Russia bombing in Syria and bam! Thread gone.

I'm glad I got online early enough to catch the thread before it was censored.

The trick that works now is to set your user pref to hide anything you downvote or upvote.

And downvote or upvote EVERYTHING. Once you get about 20-24 hours ahead.
Then you start seeing 'now' at the top again.

Or to sum up. Yeah it's stupid.

i do this, but then you just get to the point where your front page is just un-interesting shit you want to downvote anyway

    downvote or upvote EVERYTHING

You are not supposed to downvote stuff in that way, according to reddiquette. There is a difference between what doesn't interest you, and what belongs in a subreddit. Use the "hide" button instead.

and reddit is supposed to be a free and open discussion site that the masses decide what goes up or down.

and it's not anymore. not by a mile.

so... i don't care what i'm supposed to do either.
this works for me to see shit i want at the top.

just like the stupid shit reddit does works for them to suckup to advertisers who want a safe feelgood space.

Either it's good content, and belongs in it's sub, or it's shit content, and it doesn't. If you don't like the sub, use RES to block it. Everything should be voted on by everyone, ideally.

I've always done this and still notice the down tick in 'freshness'.

They collect vote metadata and do very nefarious things with it. This is a remarkably bad idea that volunteers an incredible load of information that no one would want to.

Are you fucking kidding me? This got deleted?

We've always been at war with East Asia.

Since it is getting down voted to shit (rightfully so) here is a link to a mod attempting to justify the removal. It's also a perfect example of how much the philosophy behind this site has changed.

I upvoted that mod's post. Not that I like the answer, but at least he came here to say something, which I would encourage more to open up the dialog a bit.

This is a false mode of interaction. We are customers and content producers. Dialogue was long ago suspended; the moderators mock, gaslight, and organize on IRC and in hate subreddits. They need to be removed.

That mod is not wrong though. The question is incredibly baiting and loaded. It could have easily been asked without the "killed the site" bit and still gotten good responses. People seem to just want be reactionary and exaggerate a lot.

Fuck reddit, I'm done with this site.

    Any good alternatives?

    Voat.co

Only if you enjoy white supremacy propaganda and non-ironic posts about how Hitler wasn't really so bad.

Voat is ok and had potential to be great but because its still new and small it doesnt have the content that reddit does.

True but I see the news actually getting posted there when shit happens.

While technically true, it could be argued that "reddit" doesnt have any content at all. The users are the content. In that sense it shouldnt matter what the surrounding site is, if the user base is good, the content is good. It is my opinion that the more a site interferes with the users, the more it adulterates its lifeblood.

Not to mention they have nowhere near the capacity for supporting a mass exodus of Reddit users.

Sounds nice and all but it's full of people who hate other people, specifically fat ones.

    voat?

Voat is good or if you want less racism then stormfront is good too.

I don't get it, I go there every time someone says it's super racist and only see tech related articles and some news. I don't think I've ever seen anything racist there. Not even /v/fatpeoplehate hits the front page by the looks of it.

    [–]Monkey_Scrotum_Fever 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think it's a ploy to try to dissuade people from migrating there since it isn't a safe zone, like reddit has become, where users needn't worry about possibly getting their feelings hurt.

    /v/fatpeoplehate

They voluntarily removed themselves from appearing on the front page.

Oh, that was nice of them.

You haven't been in the comments of anything there, have you.

LoL matches are getting front page in 5 minutes tho

So did the Oregon shooting, which proceeded to stay on the top of /r/all all night. I don't know what Reddit people are looking at but it's not the one I see.

No it didn't. I heard about it first from colleagues and was confused to not see it on /r/all. I went searching and found it several pages down around the 20 minute mark.

    Edit: 20 not 28

A League of Legends post just hit #1 in 5 minutes. Tell me more about how the front page is too slow.

Wtf are you taking about. You said "so did the Oregon shooting" in response to someone saying LoL matches reach the front page in 5 mins.. I was pointing out that the shooting didn't reach the top of all in 5 mins. Who gives a fuck about LoL matches reaching the front page when we are discussing the shooting.

That is no different than soccer or football match doing the same. The biggest yearly event in LoL started yesterday and that sub sees hundreds of thousands of users a day in traffic. Of course that stuff will hit the front page immediately after a match ends.

I would have thought Reddit would be smart enough not to delete that one, sine there's a TIL about the Streisand effect on the front page every other week.

Or as with the new algorithm, it never leaves

"Reddit" does not moderate subreddits or remove threads; a small number of volunteer moderators do so, based on rules they created.

The week following the whole FPH banning, I could swear that the front page was completely hand picked. It was moving dreadfully slow and all the content was "easy." After that, the front page has always just seemed... dull.

There has to be a better site somewhere

I browse Reddit a lot. I saw nothing about Oregon on the frontpage. I felt so out of the loop when I found out about it late last night. Something is obviously wrong.

I saw as #2 on /r/all when it was half an hour old

There was at least two articles on the front page last night, unlike most reddit articles nowadays they quickly dropped off it.

See, I don't get this. It hit #1 on /r/all in 15 minutes and stayed there all night. Which Reddit are you guys browsing? It's not the same one as me...

I didn't see it till 40 mins old. At the time i was refreshing a lot also.

    What new algorithm?

I urge you guys to check just how much stuff ends up in this subreddit.

Wow, I just saw this too. That was a big thread. What a joke.

Set your browse tab to "top" and change it to "past hour." Done.

What would the motive be behind changing the algorithm, then lying about it?

y'all CAN sort by "new" ya know...

League of Legends games get to #1 in /r/all in less than 10 minutes, reddit is such a joke.

Every single post has been almost 24 hours (or much longer) old. I clicked on this one because it was 2 hrs old. Fucking Reddit.

I don't think this is actually true. "Water on Mars" jumped up on reddit incredibly quickly. I think it might just be the case that Reddit's userbase is not upvoting the stories you find pertinent.

Untrue. The shooting wasn't posted top of front for 4 hours. After the Boston bombing it was mere minutes. Even the last shooting (that's a sad thing to type) was top of all in minutes. I came to Reddit to find updates and follow the live and it wasn't even near the top. I had to search "Oregon shooting" and ended up just using Google.

An overall front page algorithm change doesn't explain why some content is still getting to the top very quickly. There are more reasonable explanations for shootings getting less attention. First, we are attenuation to that sort of news. Second is an overt plan of downvoting shootings to give the shooter less attention on the hopes of preventing more shootings.

Yeah I'm learning about stuff faster on Twitter than I am on Reddit now it's awful.

WTF, man? I thought it was just me, and I thought I visited Reddit too often for the the top stories to change. But, come on!!! The same freaking posts for almost a day?! Pppfft!

I've been getting headlines off of the Facebook trending before they're anywhere near the frontpage of Reddit. Still prefer Reddit but this doesn't bode well for the future of the forum. :(

Who's the neckbeard mod that deleted this post?

    reddit is dead, basically.

    Nothing to see here.

    Post 1:

WHY ISN'T THIS SCHOOL SHOOTING ON THE FRONT PAGE!?!?

    Post 2:

WHY DOES THE MEDIA KEEP MAKING SCHOOL SHOOTERS CELEBRITIES?!?!

Reddit is as bad as it's making CNN out to be in terms of contradicting itself.

Do people honestly use reddit as a news source? That's one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. Let's break it down. News sites report the news, reddit users cherry pick articles from these news sites and post them to reddit. The reddit userbase for that news subreddit then upvotes and downvotes to their interests.

Why would you read those articles which have been "curated" by a bunch of biased people when you could just go read the original news sites and see all the stories.

Reddit is (or at least was) useful to know that there is something newsworthy happening. Once you know that the event is occurring, you can then find the news source that you trust the most to get your information.

You just said replace curated biased news with uncurated bias news.

You would rather have your news be curated by whatever group has decided to push a topic to the front rather than curating your own news. wow. At least on your own you can pick news sites that have contrary biases, or use sources like propublica which can have very little bias.

Calm down with that superiority complex buddy. I just know how to take news with a grain of salt is all.

Sorry if it came off as aggressive or with a superiority complex, the "wow" was a bit much I'll admit. In my opinion, the fewer middle men, the better for your news.

Maybe it's not the algorithms, what if they are losing traffic since all of the scandals broke (pao, fatpeoplehate) and now they have just lost a significant amount of visitors?

Could be. Either way there has been a significant change.

This whole 'reddit is slow now' thing is insane. People just want something to complain about and now that Pao is gone this is it. To a dispassionate observer this comment thread reads as paranoid and absurd ranting.

It's like a rule of the universe. If anything at all happens, someone will complain about some aspect of it. It doesn't matter the context.

Thanks for the link, kind stranger! Let's keep this going.

I would swear this post us one of only two new things since last night.

That's quite surprising as it stayed enough time to reach the front page itself. I wonder what's the point of deleting it once everybody saw it.
