Meryl Streep Is a 'Humanist' Not a Feminist So I Guess Words Don't Have Meaning Anymore 

Meryl Streep is currently promoting her new movie Suffragette in which she plays Emmeline Pankhurst, the British activist who was instrumental in earning women the right to vote. In early September, Streep sent a package to each member of Congress urging him or her to support the Equal Rights Amendment, which would make it illegal to discriminate against women. She whooped when Patricia Arquette spoke about equal pay at the Oscars. She went to Vassar, which is basically just a women’s rights propaganda training center. But for some reason she doesn’t feel comfortable calling herself a feminist. Hahahahahaha what are words anyway, right?

Time Out London published a mostly unremarkable-except-when-it-was-bananas-crazy interview with the beloved actress, in which she seemed to be talking directly out of her butt.

The interviewer asks, “What’s the most annoying question women get asked in interviews that men don’t get asked?”

“‘You often play very strong women... Why do you choose..?’ Blah blah blah,” she responds. “No man is ever asked: ‘You often play very strong men. Why?’ It would be an absurd question.”

The interviewer also asks, “What single thing would you change about the film industry to make it less sexist?”

Streep replies: “Men should look at the world as if something is wrong when their voices predominate. They should feel it. People at agencies and studios, including the parent boards, might look around the table at the decision-making level and feel something is wrong if half their participants are not women. Because our tastes are different, what we value is different. Not better, different.”

The interviewer also asked the easiest softball question that celebrities answer to prove whether they are normal or kookoo that obviously Meryl wouldn’t flinch at because she is Queen Meryl: “Are you a feminist?”

“I am a humanist. I am for nice easy balance.”

Meryl, I want you to know that I still love you with my pulpy remains, but remember that my remains are pulpy because of you.
