I agree with everything you said. I don't think this is funny in anyway. I think it's bad comedy. I'm not here to talk about whether or not these people are funny. I'm here to talk about the fact that they had a basis for a joke: "We're two people who don't care about Mars, and Bill Nye cares about Mars. That should create some friction. Friction often equals comedy." Yeah, it wasn't funny at all (however, the crowd wouldn't agree), but they were attempting humor and I don't think they should be drawn and quartered for it.

Typically for credit to be given for an attempt at a joke, there has to be an actual attempt at a joke. There were no jokes. You have to actually try to formulate some hint of a joke if you want to be perceived like that. Otherwise people are just gonna think it's rude and disrespectful, as they have and should. And I'm not putting any stock into laughter from the audience in a show like this. It could be easily canned or prompted with signs and shit. I'd place more value on actual genuine reaction i.e. 95% dislikes.

And yeah, this is where we fundamentally disagree. There wasn't any actual attempt at humor. It was just shitting on Bill Nye and hoping people laughed at that. Now, before you lump me in with with some preconceived group of people like you've been doing all over this thread, let me say this: I don't give a shit about Bill Nye, Reddit, feminists, mars or space or science or anything else you've been randomly accusing everyone of with no basis in fact. I looked at this segment and saw that it was shit, that's the entire basis for everything I'm saying.

The reason I'm so interested in this thread is that I don't think these comedians are having their balls busted ONLY because they weren't funny.

I think it's pretty clear that that's the main reason. Everything else is just wild speculation on your part. You've got a lot of fancy theories about a lot of things. I'm not gonna bother going down that rabbit hole.

It's seems like all your saying is "they're not funny", which isn't what we're talking about (and sorry if it is, I'm tired and I've been commenting in this thread for too long).

I'm saying they weren't even trying to be funny and that they don't deserve credit for any attempt at trying to be funny because they haven't actually attempted to be funny or make jokes. And EVEN IF you want to pretend they improv-ing being an asshole towards your guest then it has to reasonably appear that way. Nothing about this seemed like that it was a joke they were all in on. It just looked like inexperienced comedians being nervous about being on the show and falling back on being crass about everything. That's not even making an attempt at "jokes".

a lot of comedy is. Who are your favorite comedians? I'm guessing all of them have disrespected a group of people at least once in the name of comedy. The only difference is: they do it well, these people didn't.

There is a clear, distinct difference from some guy in a club telling jokes about whatever random shit and inviting a guest on your talk show and berating him to his face about how the shit that you invited him on to talk about is stupid bullshit that nobody cares about and hoping people laugh at him being shit on to his face. Do you really not see any difference there? Honestly? There's no difference between the two things in your eyes?

What I'm trying to get at here is that some comedians fail. Some shticks, or bits, or quips, or whatever fail. Some times an NBA player misses a layup, some times a golfer misses a put, some times a comedian bombs a "segment".

What I'm getting at is that you have to actually make an attempt at a joke to get credit for trying to make a joke. If the golfer brought a tennis ball and racket to the green and swatted the tennis ball at the hole you wouldn't say "well, that was a bad putt."

According to most everyone that's seen this, like a vastly overwhelming majority of people, which is way more than the small studio audience that could have been canned laughter or prompted laughter. There's really no value to bringing this up over and over.

Bill Nye knows it's fucking comedy, he's not feeling "disrespected", and you guys shouldn't project that onto him.

You don't really know what he feels. You're projecting your own feelings onto him and everything else here. He's not an idiot. He can clearly tell when he's being blown off and made the butt of bad comedians resorting to stupid middleschool derision when they couldn't make any actual jokes.
