Reason I Need Feminism #7,344
Because every female mechanic, carpenter, electrician, etc wants a bright pink tool set on the job. Never mind that these are some of the lowest grade tools you can find. [[[[EDIT]]]]: lol my picture of “pink tools” that I saw at SEARS while I was WALKING THROUGH THE HARDWARE SECTION with my BOYFRIEND who is an ELECTRICIAN. (Just giving some info to clarify because I refuse to respond to nasty comments.) Let me also remind you that these tools are NOT pink because of breast cancer awareness. And I also NEVER said that it would be bad for a woman to use them or anti feminist of her, because NEWSFLASH, the tools themselves are fine.
What bothered me about the photo, which maybe I didn’t clarify, was that there doesn’t need to be a section of pink tools. The tools you use can be pink if you want them to be. What bothers me is that:
1) Nobody can tell me this isn’t directed toward women, regardless of the display not saying “women’s” “girls” “female”, because tell me, what man would go to a hardware store and head straight to the “pink tools” section? Even if he liked the color pink, in most cases, he would never do that because pink is not masculine. Pink signifies feminine when it comes to advertising and we all know this. It is not news. I am not making a ground breaking statement.
2) Why are they in a section of “pink tools”? I don’t see a section of orange tools, or blue tools, or green tools. I see mechanics tools, electricians tools, carpenters tools. I see brand sections like Milwaukee, Mikita and Stanley. What they mean when they say “pink tools” are “women’s tools”. Why do women need special tools? Put the pink tools on the shelf next to the other tools. Put the pink hammer next to the other hammers and the pink pliers with the others. Pink drill set? Put it with the other drills.
And I never said I was being oppressed like some had commented. I said I needed feminism. Because feminism is about equality for both sexes. And the fact that a man would never use a pink tool and would be embarrassed, but I wouldn’t give two shits about using a tool with a blue handle, means that, YES, it is sexist and unequal.
AND female tradeswomen are not “rare to non-existent” unless you live in some backwoods shithole.
