This is why they also ask they are looking for leads they just are sarcastic becuase the lack of leads the past couple years has broken the moral of the guards.

The Dragonborn wiped the blood of the fallen off Shadowstalker and began robbing the dead. The horded spoils of war were placed in a barrel by the entrance. Lazarus returned home to Whiterun and the warmth of hearth and fire. He proceeded to empty nearly all of his gear into barrels and chests.

Armed with only light armor, sword, bow and a few potions, Lazarus returned to the mine to reclaim the last of the loot. The journey back to Whiterun was quick and uneventful as he again deposited all of his loot inside his house.

Then the Dragonborn went to market, selling potions and weapons while buying ingredients and ore deposits in each town. Many different types of flowers and plants were gathered along the way.

Returning to his alchemy satchel and lab, he mixed many wonderous potions and poisons. He returned all of the leftover ingredients into the satchel before making the journey back to every apothecary in Skyrim, collecting ingredients and selling potions.

for the record this is relevant humor. its a skyrim joke about skyrim mechanics in a skyrim setting.

an irrelevant joke would be if the joke was about somethign completely unrelated to skyrim (or in other words, irrelevant) but set in a skyrim world
