Your sentence really shouldn't have commas, and is grammatically incorrect. What you should have said was, "Not all sentences, especially yours, need commas.", or something with more humor than I could get in that.

You can't take out your phrase between the commas in "Not all, sentences need, commas". "Not all commas" makes no sense, and is essential to the meaning of your sentence, as you can see.

However, "The bigger guy is pretty cool too", is fine without the non essential "in the car" phrase.

In the end, I could have typed it without commas, or left out "in the car", but I liked the pacing of it, as it sounded more humorous with some pauses. You might be right that it could be delivered without with the same or better humor.

  1. Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Use one comma before to indicate the beginning of the pause and one at the end to indicate the end of the pause.

Although I don't like the idea of accepting that things are "in God's hands," I admire his lack of hypocrisy. Any religious man who believes, according to his religion, that God is in control of everything, should be ready to accept that should he die, it is God's will and God's will alone.

Same here. My cynical side sees his appointment as a public relations bandaid since any meaningful reform in the Catholic Church as an organization is probably not going to happen, but I can't help but see him as a genuinely decent person who is trying to do some good.
