Role Idea: Yandere (self.TownofSalemgame)

Yandere

Alignment: Neutral(Killing)

Abilities-

  • You may choose one person to kill each night

Attributes-

  • Your kill will show up as a SK kill, not a Yandere kill.
  • After clicking the sun icon at day, you can anonymously talk with your target. You can only use this ability 3 times.
  • While talking with your target, they are immune at night.
  • If your target dies, you will turn into a Jester.
  • Your target is <Target Name>

Victory conditions: Wins with Town, and nobody else.

Goal: Make sure you and your target are alone by the end of the game.

Investigator results: Your target is a stalker. They must be a Lookout or a Yandere!

Consigliere results: Your target wants to live alone with the one they love. They must be a Yandere!

Sheriff results: Your target is not suspicious.

Basically, how the role works, is that you kill somebody each night so that you can be alone with your target. This would be a difficult task, for sure.

Your target is always a townie, and can never be the Mayor.

You are night immune unless you are talking to your target. It's as if you're transferring the night immunity to them.

You cannot kill while talking to your target.

If you are jailed, the conversation is cancelled, but the talk is given back to you.

Funnily enough, I think this idea is hillarious. I love it. The things I would change would be remove the protections for them to kill their target, and add achievements for accidentally killing your target, one for by transported, one for witch.

Beyond that, what to do if someone kills your target or your target gets lynched. Something along the lines of the exe where you gain a new objective. Become the last one standing maybe? Murder them all?

I'm also wondering, target always being a townie....something makes me think it would be even funnier if the target turned out to be an SK or a member of the Mafia. Especially if the Evil roles didnt win with the Yandere. The Mafia would be trying to find and kill them while the Yandere is trying to keep them all to themselves. Maybe that wouldn't work, but it could lead to some really fun gameplay.

Thanks for your feedback! I'll remove the protections and add the achievements.

I'm thinking that after your target gets murdered/lynched, your new objective is to kill everyone else, or you commit suicide the night after because you can't live without your target.

Rather than "I changed my mind" I'd go with "notice me senpai!"

The idea of having them kill themselves when their target dies occurred to me as well, but that's a little unfair. They're target could die throu utterly no fault of their own, just like the exe's target, so the effect should be about the same.

No, jester doesn't seem appropriate here. Maybe becoming an SK? That might be overkill though. Maybe just changeing the objectives so they become a killing role without night immunity?

You win with noone, except for your target. Maybe make it the goal to win with your target, and remove the limitation of your target being town. Sometimes you win with an arso, sometimes you win with the mafia.

Just make it so that the target can be anyone, not just town. Then change the win condition to "Can only win with their target."

Exactly. And I think it would be perfect if they win with their target, but not their target's team.

Which may mean that some roles won't be able to win with the Yandere. Like the jester. That would be a really funny game. Jester desperately trying to die, yandere desperately trying to keep them alive.

Of course it doesn't originate from anime. By anime-word I mean a word that weeaboos learn through anime. It's like tsundere, nani and all those other random words weeaboos use. Be honest, you didn't learn that word from Japanese class.

Also, I should point out that "yandere" is generally not used outside of animes. It's basically an anime term. Why the hell would Town of Salem use anime terms as names for their roles?

Yandere is a subgenre in anime as far as I've learnt by googling. I don't see why you'd use an anime term as a name for a role in Town of Salem. It's not an anime game.

Yes, but "yandere" isn't a loanword, it's an anime subgenre. You'll find "mosquito" in the English dictionary. You won't find "yandere".

Agreed. Sounds like knee jerk predudice. I do think something more universal might be preferable, but I can't think of anything else which exactly sum up the role the same way, and I have no real objections to Yandere. Just 'Stalker' maybe?
