Rockstar did address this back in 2011. They said it wasn't viable technically or business-wise.

There are a lot of exclusive games i'm having to wait a long time for someone to make an emulator of the platforms to play them :l

If there's a lot of them, maybe just invest in a cheap used console so you can play them? I don't know what your financial situation is like, but those consoles are such old news now that they should be very affordable.

Let's be honest, many have seen it coming miles away. Most, if not all, have either bought the game on the previous gen consoles and played it already, or just shrugged and moved on to other games.

I bought a used PS3 just so I could play RDR and The Last of Us, and I couldn't be happier. RDR is something every gamer must (at least try to) experience IMO.

It should be noted that Red Dead Redemption performs much better on the Xbox 360 than on PS3 for anyone considering buying a used console to play this game.

Not really a surprise. I mean after all this time with pretty much no word on it I'm not surprised that they weren't planning on making a PC version.

Though there is an unfortunate finality from this statement that doesn't really make it any better.

yeh, although they did essentially say in 2011 in an interview that the game wouldn't be coming out on PC - so that was the time where I realised it'd never happen. I guess it just wasn't made for PC in mind, and the cost of porting it to PC outweighs the benefits.... its the only reason I can think they've not done it since R* have all their other games on PC.

If it does come, it'll be thanks to the current-gen consoles, if there is a demand there for them to port the game to Xbox One and PS4 (in which case they'd probably cover Windows too). But yeh, doubt that will happen, especially now that Xbox One has the backwards compatibility option.

“Amazing news, I'm buying L.A. Noire [for PC] day one! But why no plans for Red Dead Redemption? I would buy that too… and I have a looot of friends who would do the same!” - Andysk8 “Has Rockstar abandoned the PC platform???” - Simbala>

We hope that with the announcement that L.A. Noire is coming to PC this fall, and the knowledge that our next big game Max Payne 3 will have a PC release (plus that we’ve released both Grand Theft Auto IV and the Episodes from Liberty City for PC), we can finally put to rest any misconceptions that we’ve ‘abandoned the PC platform’. We do know that, yes, there is just one title absent from our PC release plans – that game of course being Red Dead Redemption, and of course we’re well aware that some fans have been asking for it. All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform) – we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms. To PC gamers, we hope that between the Grand Theft Auto titles, and the forthcoming L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3, you’ll have plenty of great Rockstar action to enjoy.>

With the stuff I heard about the source code I totally believe that they never intended to port it to anything else ever

[–]we_are_sex_bobomb [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

I wouldn't pay any mind to those rumors... Unless Rockstar is really weird internally, they were absolutely making working PC builds constantly during development. If they couldn't do that, every dev, designer and artist would each need their own console development kit on their desk just to see what they were doing, which would be bonkers.

Now, those PC builds would not be consumer-ready by any means, but they would be functional for testing purposes at least. If the game couldn't run on PC it's be impossible to make in the first place.

[–]ARTIFICIAL_SAPIENCE [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

which would be bonkers.

Why's that? In my limited time working at a game studio, it seemed like we were drowning in the damn things. I had two just to myself. I helped manage a room that had 20-30. My officemate spent most of his time handling perhaps 10.

Granted, I never actually had time to go check out the offices of the art team, but everywhere else was just packed with them.

I could have easily run on very specific developer PC hardware, but getting something like that to run on any PC is a nightmare. There's a reason they took a year to port GTA:V to PC and it's clear that they took their time and did it right. They probably learned a lot and the Red Dead sequel (or whatever else is next) will be on PS4/XBO/PC

The game is so damn phenomenal but it suffers more than most games with the crappy resolution. The beautiful landscape is so brown that the blurriness of 720p + some sort of filter made it difficult for me to enjoy adventuring as much as I had hoped.

Internal resolution is 592p like many last gen games.

The 360 version does render at 1280 x 720. But on PS3 it's 1152 x 640.

360 version also runs at a higher frame rate

Well, no duh? But are they still making money of it? If they are, how?

You can buy both RDR and Undead Nightmare off the previous generations marketplaces as well as some little bits of DLC and novelties. Probably not making much off it though.

I finally broke down and bought it just a few weeks ago during a sale. So yea, they're still making money on it.

Man, that's disappointing. I just got it recently, and the frame rate is really bad. It seems like a fun game though.

Obviously. If they had any intention or if it was even remotely a justifiable possibility, it would've happened by now.

The only game from Rockstar I've ever had interest in playing is also the one game they neglected to bring to the PC platform. The irony is strong. I'm still holding out hope that the next Red Dead game, if there is ever another, comes to PC.

Which makes me cling on to my PS3 slim much more tightly and hoping it will last a little longer.

As I said in /r/patientgamers, my PS3 is pretty much my MGS Legacy Collection and Red Dead Redemption machine. I'm saving up to buy a PS3 Super Slim and also maybe one more after that when the inevitable production of PS3s stop.

I still think they knew from the start that if you had a mouse it would render the entire game basically effortless. Even if you aren't very experienced with the more inaccurate controller, the game is was so generous with the length and power of slow motion that you could basically easily headshot multiple people while galloping on a horse, down a rocky path, with tree's inbetween, at night, in a lightning storm and still hit with nearly every shot.

Thats definitely not the reason for not porting the game to PC though

[–]Renusek [

Well, I don't care. I can play RDRevolver on emulator. RDRedemption will be playable on Xenia too, maybe in 3-5 years, but eventually it will. And I won't have to deal with that Rockstar Club bullshit.

Rockstar Club bullshit

I don't think that's a thing on consoles? At least not in RDR

At this point, I thought it was assumed that was the case. I'm holding out hope for an RDR sequel on PC. I'm pretty sure, with how big it was on 360, that we'll see a sequel eventually. One of those cards they keep up their sleeves for an E3 announcement, like Gears of War HD.

How did you guys not know this? game came out 5 years ago. rstar san diego has never released a pc game. their only pc game was mc2 and that was in 2003, it was ported by rstar Toronto anyway. rstar san diego hasnt made a new ip since 2011

[–]Agglet 0

Lead multiplayer designer? I love RDR but multiplayer was tacked on as hell. There were things missing from single player that could've easily been in multiplayer, but were stripped for whatever reason :/

[–]we_are_sex_bobomb [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Whatever reason = time and money, 99% of the time.

But why? The only thing I've ever heard is "no", but never a reason. The GTA games get ported. Why not RDR?

The reason has been floating around for ages. The studio was getting shut down around them while they were making the game, so the games code is in such a garbled mess it's a miracle it works on the consoles in the first place

Supposedly the code is poorly written, or just optimized for consoles. This statement supports that. :/

Just let this one go, people. It's not gonna happen, it's too late now. Perhaps if they ever decide to make a re-mastered edition or something like that, there's a chance.

I might let this one go, as long as I can hang on to my hopes of a Halo 3 PC port.

Remember, people originally said KI would never come to PC, and it's coming.

With their big push for Windows 10/Xbox One cross-connection and their recent emphasis on cross-play, we might one day see a PC version of MCC. It's been basically stated "Never say never".

Maybe.

Though I'm not entirely sure if that'll be a blessing or a curse.

Anyone have that hilarious image of a supposed graphics comparison between the two consoles and the pc with clint eastwood from the dollars trilogy proudly displayed in the pc graphics area instead of a screenshot of the game?

Seems pretty obvious since 5 years later there hasn't been a PC release or a XBONE/PS4 remaster.

I know they lost a lot of source code along the line but presumably that couldn't have happened if they were intending to make a PC release a year after the console release like they usually do.

It's a great game, but I found it way overrated by many. 8/10 game IMO, dunno how so many people say it's the best game they've ever played.

[–]the_liberty_bellend 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Because for once, a game took us back in time without the shitty trappings of most video games set in the past: magic, fantasy, scary monsters, magic fucking swords, magic fucking anything.

Thank god we can drop "the code was mess" rumor.
Every thread about RDR PC thread regurgitated that rumor based on nothing.
