These rules make sense, although I love me some summoning drama

Well I'm disappointed. When I read "trial rules", I thought we'll be having a trial to decide who is right and who is wrong. I was about to write up an ad to advertise my services as an Internet litigation attorney.

I don't know if i like the second rule. Does that mean if i see bahistory somewhere i am not allowed to correct the poster, if i want to make a post on here too? So i have to choose between trying to show people their mistakes, or making fun of them on here?

In a sense, but I think that you explain it yourself. "Show people their mistakes, or making fun of them on here". Those are not especially compatible, and the intention is to curb posts which are "Hey, look how totally I pwned this guy!"

Well, "making fun" was probably the wrong term here. But shouldn't it be our obligation as historians to correct people if they spout wrong facts?

Yes, and like I said, these are Trial Rules, and not necessarily their final form. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to making the enforcement of the rule dependent on factors within the post and the response, but we'll see how this all goes. I will also mention that while the username ping had unanimous backing, the Involvement rule had two "No" votes (they can ID themselves if they want) and two "Yes" votes contingent on how the rule ends up being applied, so you aren't alone here, and on the whole, there is openness to tweaking just what the rules means.

I din't really see the point, to be honest. It makes sense for SRD to have strict rules on this, but given that this sub is really an educational one I don't much see the problem with either action. I mean, maybe if there was an epidemic of this stuff, but there isn't really.

And username summons are going to be a pain for your guys in terms of sorting good and bad username pings. Username pings in general are really useful tool for the discussions here: I ping people from AH all the time, people ping me to ask for some clarification, so you can't get rid of them altogether. So you will need to go through and sort through "good" pings from "bad" pings, but unless you guys have just been deleting the relevant drama there hasn't been a lot of malicious username pinging.

That usually is the case. User shows up to defend themselves. People starts ragging on them. We remove for incivility.

Excellent, time to make 7-8 puppet accounts for reposting drama I'm involved in!

(jk i know nothing about history so i cant start historical shitfights)

[–]Caabha 4ポイント5ポイント  (1子コメント)

Well if you do know nothing about history, you can!

Yeah, I think one of the bigger takeaways from this sub is that people who know nothing about history are still perfectly capable of arguing about it. If people only spoke about subjects they generally understood, none of the badacademics subs would be nearly as snarky and fun.
