I have a few issues with the crossing guard for Madison Elementary on Wall Triana near the old baptist church. She's a very nice lady, but she causes a lot of traffic issues.

She will stop traffic the instant a car is coming even if we had just stopped, or we are backed up as is causes the other lane to be clogged as well.

I stopped taking that route and ended up taking Hughes, which is further out of my way, yet I seem to save roughly 5-6 minutes.

Yep, she definitely contributes heavily to the traffic on Wall Triana. You do not stop traffic every time a single car pulls up from the school. She should wait until at least 5 cars are lined up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this.

I'm one of those cars pulling out after dropping off my daughter. I agree, even from the beneficial standpoint, that she stops traffic way too early. I've been the only car on College St, having just pulled onto the road on the other side of the school and look up to see her stopping traffic 100 yards away. It's awkward as hell, kind of like someone holding a door for you whne you're more than a few dozen feet away. I wish she wouldn't do that.

I was always curious how the other side saw it. I'm not expecting her to wait for a 10 car line for people to go, yet at the same time if it was even just 3 cars it would make things a lot smoother.

I came through there this morning. I've noticed in the past, and noticed again this morning, that this guard is noticeably worse at her job when a cop is present.

I go straight thru the intersection nowadays (no more kids to drop off!), and she completely ignored me this morning. While westbound traffic was turning into the school, I ended up having to come to a complete stop before she noticed me, and then (emphatically) waved at me to continue going straight. Normally, she is excellent at her job and keeps traffic flowing very well; she's one of the better guards I've seen there. But when a cop is there with the radar gun, she's very erratic. Weird!

What was stranger is that he was in the middle with her shooting the shit.

Not running radar at all.

Also, use Waze. I already knew there was a cop there when I turned into Hobbs.

Also, use Waze.

Yeah but do they--holy crap they DO have a WP app. /em downloads immediately.

I was there earlier than you...maybe 7:30-ish. Cop was off to the side in full radar mode. Yeah, Waze is cool!

You may have marked the cop on waze!

What are the posted hours for the school zone speed limits? If it's until 8, maybe your clock's "8 AM (on the dot)" isn't the same as the crossing guard's, or the guard didn't realize that it wasn't 7:55? I dunno.

Still, a little grace for the circumstances (No kids anywhere, guard is not actively directing traffic) would have been more appropriate.

It was still a 25 mph zone.

Speeding wasn't the issue though.

Ah. I read too much into the phrase "safe speed necessary" -- I thought that was a euphemism for "faster than technically posted, but safe for the circumstances."

I wish I could post a pic of the crossing guards car. She is a little cray-cray.

Emboldened with power.

Sounds like one of those.

Thankfully most I encounter are not like that.
