shoutout to the neurodivergent people who
-talk freely about their unconvential beliefs [i don’t like using the word delusions]
-rock back and forth in public
-stim in public
-talk to themselves / their hallucinations / their alters in public
-have public breakdowns or meltdowns
-perform unusual rituals
-don’t have insight
sometimes we don’t have the option of hiding our neurodivergencies. sometimes this puts us in a lot of danger. but we are so valid, and so important.
[this post is primarily for psychotic and autistic people but you may reblog if you are neither]
Hi, reading this leaves me a little concerned about what what you think of people with mental illnesses.
In simple terms, your diction for the mentally ill as being “neurodivergent” is misleading in that it promotes unhealthy states of the mind as simply different instead of the reality of how these people need help.
If you see someone on the train muttering to themselves and acting like a drug addict in withdrawal symptoms the logical action is to call 911. Sometimes these people appear to be/actually are potential threats to the safety of others in some places like airports, subway stations, and other public buildings and property.
I might be coming off as rude or insensitive but I think it would be in the best interest of these less fortunate individuals if you promoted getting specialists and professional help instead of acting like that form of behavior in public is appropriate. But that is your choice and I can only make suggestions as a viewer who has known autistic individuals who overcame their issues.
