We the mods would like to hear your input into the future of our beloved /r/AgainstHateSubreddits.

What subs deserve our attention? Do we start showcasing the racist infiltrated parts of legitimate subs like /r/worldpolitics and /r/worldnews?

We want to hear your thoughts.

Was going to post earlier about how the far right seem to be targeting smaller European subs now /r/Europe is wrecked.

Had a post from /r/Finland which I'm subscribed to hit my front page earlier with 60 something points, which is very unusual for a sub where submissions rarely go above 20.

The post was a repost of one submitted to/r/Europe about an Iraqi not liking Finland that was originally posted by an American. This one also posted by someone professing to have never been to Finland, and all the far right rhetoric voted to 60+ and anything possibly suggesting immigration is ok in the minuses.

The bugs are clearly spreading their work.

Some point I might do a study of the new queue of Europe, but I'm going to be mad busy until January.

I first became aware of this on /r/circlebroke when /r/Europe's mods reached out for help with the racism propagating on their sub. /r/Finland was mentioned in that thread as well. It looks like you guys need to add mods and moderate strictly if you want the nationalists to move on. Good luck.

I would love to see more discussions of how we can put pressure on the admins to address the problem of far-right hate groups infiltrating Reddit.

The admins have, in the past, mostly responded to bad press, because they're obligated to not hurt their advertising potential.

No admins cared about /r/jailbait until there was a news article about it.

No admin care about thefappening until there was a news article about it.

No admins cared about fatpeoplehate until they started harassing imgur staff.

If reddit "contains" (aka doesn't explicitly get mentioned, even if their ideas/actions/ethos do spread beyond reddit) the shitlords, then the admins will do nothing.

Write to advertisers long, pissy letters about how you can't believe that they are financially supporting hate sites, etc etc. It's you're free speech rights, after all.

I would like it if we put some effort into more closely examining the racism that's spread to the major news subreddits. How often are the intentionally instigative stories posted by people from echo chambers with top-level comments from people from echo chambers?

A lot of moderate people are having their views swayed to the 'reasonable' sounding options presented there that have their motivation rooted in racism and fear. It's something that shouldn't go past without scrutiny.

That's what we're starting to do more and more. It's obvious since the banning of certain subs they've taken their hate to larger subs.

We've talked about showcasing some of the more obvious users who create long comment chains where they "soapbox". Thoughts?

There's also no shortage of small hate subs floating around. I'm working on a list to post here about them. Any suggestions on that?

My suggestions would be to say in the rules that posting about those sorts of things is encouraged-- and then the second thing would be to grow the subreddit itself.

In my opinion the only functional thing this subreddit can and should do is be aware of and catalogue organized hate and fear on reddit. So it's really just about looking closer and posting back here when we discover these relationships-- and if we're going to scrutinize the bleed out into major news subreddits it's going to take more eyes than we really have right now.

Two things to consider are documenting organised propaganda campaigns targeting reddit that originate outside of reddit, and an educational campaign, at least amongst the progressive corner of reddit, about the kind of articles posted by reactionary propagandists.

It usually becomes exceedingly clear what's far right hate porn pretty quickly when you have a look under the "related" tab... perhaps someone should make a bot that automatically posts what subs the story has been shared to in subs targeted by the far right.

I've seen two ideas in this thread I'm really in favor of:

1)Find more effective ways to encourage the admins to ban hate subs outright. The fact that White Rights and European are still not even quarantined, despite all the reports that have been sent, shows that we need to find another way to convince them. Hate subs with thousands of members are still out in the open, and we need to figure out how to do something about it.

2)Track and analyze the ways racists/misogynists/etc use other subs to spread their causes. Then we can be a resource for mods who don't want their subs to be dumping grounds. For example, r/Europe has been deluged with racist posts lately. And r/news and r/worldnews have been crap for ages now. Being able to help other users recognize and respond to their tactics would be really helpful.
