So, I finally got around to exploring the Hillman Library, and found the Classical Mediterranean section. Because I don't have enough of a reading backlog already, I decided to pick up a few texts. So far, I've checked out Pompeii (Mary Beard), The Roman Army at War (Adrian Goldsworthy), and The Archaeology of Early Rome and Latium (Ross Holloway). I've started the Early Rome and Latium book, it's interesting to read about the historiography of regnal Rome, and to see how it has see-sawed between diametrically opposed positions. At times, historians have treated the entire regnal period as suspect, and at other they've accepted the historical tradition enthusiastically. I'm curious to see where the book lands, I suspect Holloway trends towards somewhere in the middle.
