Because of course it did.
Few of the iPhone devotees at Apple's flagship Regent Street store in London seemed swayed by Samsung's pack of leafleters, who were out plugging the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ to queueing iPhone 6s buyers. In any case, the stunt is sure to reinforce Samsung's place as the de facto alternative to Apple's new smartphones.
There's more iPhone launch day craziness over on iMore.

Samsung gatecrashed the iPhone 6s launch in London
Uh, guys.
I honestly don't know what to think about this.
On one hand, I think it may work out to gain lots of publicity. On the other hand, I think it's a bit of a dick move.
It's just pretty bizarre.
Here lies the "2016 Flagship Killer". It got slayed by 2015 flagships like the LG G4 being used to post this.
I'll go with d:ck move!
It is both without a doubt, but it isn't much more of a dick move than the billboard stuff from a few years ago.
Was that Samsung getting plunked by LG? I think so but cannot remember... No coffee yet..
+++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
.... Or Apple with their "move to apple" app. Google may not do anything to mess with Apple but leave it to Samsung to do it for Google. Tasteful dick move.
Posted via the Android Central App
The "Move to Apple" app isn't even on the same level as this. This is actively annoying people in the real world, in a way that has zero chance of convincing anyone that Samsung is a better option than Apple.
Dick move
Posted via the Android Central App
Thus just shows Samsung are getting a little desperate, I'd go with it being a d**k move by Samsung. Let the ifans enjoy their new toy, even they already know that Samsung is Apple's biggest Android competitor.

Considering the incredible disparity in sales between samsung's flagships and Apple's offerings, competing is a serious exaggeration
well this has been one of Samsungs main reasons for success.. They've been marketing themselves as THE alternative to the iPhone.. By copying Apple, but also "mocking" Apple.
It's sort of like that report a couple of years ago, which said that some analysts believed that apple's win in court against Samsung actually helped boost sales of the galaxy s3
Agreed. Years ago I felt bad for them when Apple was hammering them in court. Now I look at the s6 and Note 5 and feel no remorse. Oh I'm going to go with "desperate DlCK move" as well
Posted with A Moto X Pure..bye Samsung.
The thing is that whoever is queuing up for the iPhone 6S may already have their minds dead-set on it.
They're not just gonna see those Samsung banners and immediately think "Yeah, that Samsung phone looks good. I'm gonna cancel my reservation and get one".
It only serves to grab attention, and I think in that regard, they may have succeeded, but probably in a not-so-mature way.
Typical Sammy. Typically classess and tasteless.
At the very least, this is bad-mannered.
Posted via the Android Central App
They got paid, that's for sure.
Money for dignity...
People waiting in lines to buy iPhones kind of deserve to be messed with though. I'd say the same if anyone lined up for an Android phone but I don't see that happening...cuz you know, just buy it online and enjoy your day.

This won't work to get people coming over from iPhone, it would likely enrage them or annoy them. Honestly, what a lame thing to do... Good job being the annoyance Samsung lol
Posted via the Android Central App
I tell you what it will do. It'll get Rene ready to spew more Bullshit lol.

Rene doesn't need any reason to spew more bullshit.

Finished that sentence for you

No. He's an apple extremist that clearly enjoys criticizing Android
"Man, I was really excited for the new iPhone, but then these people from Samsung showed up and started acting like assholes, and now that S6 Edge Plus is really looking good."

I don't think it was 100% Sammy. I see "Carphone Warehouse" at the bottom of the ads. Maybe it was just a dick move by them.
Maybe a joint partnership
Posted via the Android Central App
The iPeople in the iLine already have their iMinds set on the new iPhone. Samsung doing this just ends up looking foolish.
Ifoolish

S-Foolish
That's pretty pathetic. I wonder what other bad ideas they dismissed.
I know, that decision tree or flow chart that resulted in this stunt had to be pretty salty. If they wanted to get publicity, they should have shown up at these events to give away a bunch of Samsung devices. They aren't paying the bills sitting on shelves, either.
If i only i could click and look at the pictures lol

It's funny how so many assume that this will just not work. I'm not saying that this is what they should have been doing all this time. You have your diehard iPhone fans but you have those that have no idea what android has to offer because the only phone they ever had was an iPhone. I'm sure they are making some kind of offer as well.
Posted via the Android Central App
It'd piss me off to the point where I'd never want to see anything Samsung had to offer.
While this is a pretty tasteless ploy, it sure is interesting. I'm not really sure how many takers they're getting/got. Based on the idea that not everyone waits in line for these things, and the people who do wait have often made up their minds on this issue before getting in line, it seems like more of a publicity stunt. Oh well, I hope Samsung sells a lot of phones as well as Apple. It really keeps the eco-system more rich and interesting to have some good ol' competition.
I say more power to them, since any controversy is news and this keeps them in the spotlight.
Now if these folks passing out the leaflets were dressed up in a sheep costume, that would have been priceless and probably would have made headlines all over the world...
Posted via the Android Central App
Way to go Samsung, I'm seeing all kind of fun headlines because of you morons: "Even Samsung made sure to make the iPhone launch"
Good one.what a stupid move by Samsung. As if ANYONE is going to leave the queue and go and buy a Samsung phone! These people that come up with these ideas must be on drugs. Im typing this on my Samsung galaxy s5.im an android user.ive never had an iPhone but i can see how people love their iphones.samsungs only hope now is to get this foldable phone out.that would be awesome.
Just rude. Can't imagine Apple doing this to Samsung. Mind you, they don't need to. And I'm android on Samsung!
Samsung is desperate with this move.
Posted via the Android Central App
Totally agree. I know it's just a publicity stunt and all but if people don't like your product(s) what can you do, you know? I definitely don't hate on Apple because they do make great products and I own quite a few. When it comes to phones it all boils down to preference.

Where is Richard Yarrell?
He got shit canned a while back!
Posted via Android Central App
Who cares, buy the phone you like and move on with your life, they all do the same thing.
Posted via the Android Central App
Truth, I'm so done with arguing with the Apple fans as I'm sure they are fed up with arguing with Android fans! For the most part all flagship phones have great cameras, fast processors, high quality builds and similar technology implemented slightly different to make it seem like they did something new. Every phone manufacturer at this point makes a great quality product. Pick the one you like and that fits your needs best.

I agree. I love phones in general. All about checking out the latest tech, and I've owned nearly every top quality phone imaginable. I'll give any phone a try, but I always seem to want my iPhone back. At this point in the mobile game, it's just preference. The differences are minimal at best. And I'd never knock someone that had an android, but my taste isn't their taste.
Me and you are the same except that i havent had an iPhone yet.i just dont understand how people keep on buying iphone after iphone.dont they get sick of them? Its good to try out other brands
Where is your sony phone? You have to get an iPhone as well.get one phone of every major brand like im doing.why stick to one brand.ive had 3 samsung phones,1 Lg,1 htc and 1 Sony.next up is of couse the iPhone. Im deserting android.im just not a 1 brand person.
Exactly. I prefer Android to iOS, but if you were to take my G4 from me and give me an iPhone 6 Plus, it would not keep me from doing much of anything at all, and would not affect my life in any meaningful way. I don't understand the emotional investment in this stuff.
I love Samsung's products and don't particularly care for Apple products though I see the quality in them. Nevertheless, I think this makes Samsung look desperate. Sammy if you want to get a piece of apple sales in London, release the note 5 in Europe.

From a user's perspective, this is pretty funny. Looking at Samsung as a company, this absolutely stinks of desperation.. The fact that Samsung even mentions Apple in their commercials is a victory for Apple as well. How could Samsung allow this to happen?
It makes Samsung look scared.
No one who planned the day and pre-ordered a new iPhone is going to suddenly look at a curved glass Galaxy Edge and step out of line.
What they should have done is offer anyone with an Apple order (I don't know if you had to have one, don't think so) a mega deal on either Edge model with a generous trial period and no quibble return - plus some tuition and free set up at a store of their choice.
Doing so while treating them with courtesy and VIP treatment.
I haven't seen the full info on this placarding, but just antagonising people who haven't tried Android and Samsung is plain daft.
I have no hate towards Apple as a former iPhone user, I say good luck to them and let them get on with their circus, and we as Android fans focus on Android.

Lollipop sandbagged my beloved Note 4 so I went Apple. The iOS 9 sandbagged my 6+ but the master reset remedied that issue and my Note 4 is STILL slower than ever.
Might return to a Note 4 because I need the sd slot. Many remote locations in Utah with no access to the sheep cloud.
If Apple made an iPhone with a huge battery and a micro sd option, Samsung would wither and die. But having one platform (Apple) supported by one company doing all the updates is pretty sweet. Hate waiting months for Droid updates.
Until Apple offers big batteries that can be removed and optional storage, Samsung will always crash their party.
Sheeple are way too sensitive and Droidies are over confident.
I loved my 5s but got bored of iOS and the small screen and the poor battery life so I jumped ship to Android I was also curious about Android also, I love the features of Android and how you can make it truly your phone unlike Apple. With Android M there is absolutely no reason for me to go back to iOS. I started with a Moto G LTE 2nd Gen but got fed up with the lag and my phone possibly being infected with the Stage Fright bug so. I bought a Nexus 6 and have no regrets plus I will get updates as consistent as Apple
Posted via the Android Central App via My Nexus 6
Google's actually more consistent and frequent.
They don't need a major os update to introduce new features and fix certain bugs.
If Samsung really wants to compete against Apple, they need to build pompous stores that make loitering people appear affluent...
Yep. Feels desperate. Looks like a dick move.

Samsung hooligans?
Posted via the Android Central App
I love when they do things like this. Its childish but its funny
From recent run in with samsung execs and NOT getting any shape of customer services, I they should focus on getting their.customer service in order before taking on more people to be let down their service.
Bunch of cuties they have working for them. Especially that one in the center photo.
I don't know if my message appeared so i repeat...NO ONE is going to get of the queue and go and buy a Samsung phone.samsungs only hope now to get some sales back is to come out with that foldable phone . that would be awesome
Such stunts won't really give them much publicity as Samsung are well known brand. It certainly doesn't seem a classy move by Samsung but a desperate one. As far as phones are concerned having owned both I do prefer 6s plus over my edge plus that's Mainly due to ui and dislike for touch wiz. I much prefer stock android which is light and nippy.
Telling me off like a naughty boy? Sort yourselves out ffs
