let them do this if they want to. there are better bars to go to, if they don't want everyone's business they don't deserve to have yours if you disagree with them.

Discrimination is illegal so no, don't let them do this if they want to.

they have the right to refuse service. $20 is simply their go away we dont want you at our bar price tag

their reputation is garbage because of their discrimination and the bar is probably going under as a result of it anyways.

they don't have the right to refuse service based on all the shit listed in the civil rights act of 1964, though. They can refuse service based on clothing, however, since that's not in the law. That's why people are talking about this, because clubs discriminate based on dress all the time and it's fine and legal.

Only at the federal level since HERO got overturned. The city can't do much about this.

The federal level covers all levels though.

They are in fact violating federal law with this door policy. Specifically, the civil rights act of 64.

It shouldn't be. If a bar wants to have a ladies night Monday, Mexican night Tuesday, African night Wednesday, Japanese Thursday, German night Friday, Portuguese night Saturday and then have no Asians on Sunday, WHO GIVES A FUCK?

Christ man. Its not a public university and its not 1950. You can go elsewhere. You can open your own bar. You can protest and boycott but this shouldn't be illegal.

If a fucking baker doesn't want to bake you a cake, for whatever reason he wants, WHO CARES? "I don't like your shoes go away" and "i don't like your face go away" are no different.

Its a private business operating as they see fit. Racist people get together and buy over priced and under poured drinks and you want SO BADLY to be a part of that?

You just want them punished for having a morality that differs from you. In a free society, people are free to operate their businesses however they please and as long as they aren't infringing on your rights, so be it.

You don't have the right to force people into a contract with someone they do not wish to enter it with. No one has the right to force someone to sell them a coke.

damn son. so you're saying it's perfectly ok for private businesses to discriminate on racial lines?

I disagree. I think allowing that can result in so much more damage than just 'Mexican night Mondays' and hurt egos. other types of businesses operating on racial lines can really fuck things up...what happens if the prevailing morality in an area is 'fuck X group of people, let's run them out of town?' cuz isn't that one of the main reasons this was brought up in the first place.. Yeah it's not 1950, but you'll be able to find people who are still stuck there.

But, this bar doesn't want to have any of those theme nights. They essentially only want white people. You haven't learned from history much have you? Of course we can go somewhere else and they might lose business. But, it's the principal of the matter. Let's say you allow this business to discriminate against non-whites on the principal that they're just going to lose business anyway. But, wait, they actually don't go out of business. Then, let's say, other businesses begin doing the same. Next thing you know, you have numerous of businesses that are allowed to discriminate because "they might lose business".

YOU havent learned much from history considering there are no WHITES ONLY clubs around today. Just whites (& blacks with $20) only clubs.

Actually, the fact that there aren't any current white only clubs doesn't have anything to do with history as much as it does with the present. Anyway, I never said there were white only clubs. I was giving you historical context to show that allowing discrimination for one business could theoretically allow every single business in American to discriminate.

Is it possible to discriminate aginst discriminators?

Long time lurker here, made an account so i could up vote this comment. Houston sub is full of yuppies hopping on the PC band wagon patting themselves on the backs for getting a shitty bar shut down. Like they want a black person to see their keyboard crusade and go "Oh those are the good white people! Thank you for fighting for our rights! What would we do without the houston redditors!" Fuck outta here fam

Also mostly a lurker - this idea that people are PC to alleviate white guilt or look good - it's bullshit. If I think it's wrong that people get overcharged due to the color of their skin, it's called empathy. I feel bad for others because I know it hurts to be mistreated for something beyond my control. That isn't some "bleeding heart yuppie shit" - it's what makes people decent. Golden Rule and shit.

If you think people are only decent to look good to others, you have some cynical views on humanity.

good god, did you miss the civil rights part of history in school?

If you don't like it go somewhere else.

The might as well put up a sign that says, ONLY GOOD LOOKING WHITES!!
