Nudity. Or day drinking.

Ugh. The day-drinking thing upsets me the most. I rarely drink, and when I do, I rarely get even buzzed because I don't drink that much.

If it's a Saturday, and I want to drink a crisp, delicious Bloody Mary with my grilled cheese, why are people freaking out?

Where are you that people judge you for this? Around here we just call that brunch.

At the moment, in the boonies of Massachusetts. Shit's whack.

If you think that's bad, people have a tendency to judge you for enjoying a mixed drink over a beer, in general. It's as if a single rum and coke at noontime was a gateway to alcoholism, but ten beers after 5pm is just good ol' fun.

As a soon to be 24 year old male, day drinking is my favorite part of the weekend. I hope that isn't sad.

honestly I would rather drink all day and go to bed shortly after sunset than drink all night and go to bed shortly after sunrise ever Friday and Saturday as some of my friends do.

Damn right. If I go to the bar from noon til 6 and then eat something I don't have to write off the entire next day unlike when I go to the bar from 10 til 2 am.

Don't people pretty much exclusively drink Bloody Marys during the day? Maybe, like in the middle of a work day, ok, but on a day off? Who's freaking out?

Only in USA, most of Europe doesn't care about either I can drink beer at a coffe shop in 10 in the morning before college without anyone caring. And most of our newspapers have naked women in them

I first read that as "gay drinking."

Carry on.

Same thing if you consider mimosas and Bellinis at brunch.

I dream of a world where a grown ass heterosexual man like myself can drink mimosas at brunch without having my motives questioned.

I don't think I've ever heard someone say anything bad about day drinking.

I saw in a health textbook once that day drinking could be signs of a drinking problem. Made no sense to me.

There is a huge difference between having some drinks with a football game, and waking up to drink an eye-opener and continue to drink all day, potentially hiding your drinking. The distinction is rarely made, though and so people assume that before 5 = alcoholic

People have a problem with drinking during the day? The world must hate me. I'm naked drinking a beer right now!

Snow. Here in the Midwestern US it snows from November to April but without fail, social media is reduced to everyone being Weatherman Stan, and look out during the first snowfall because everyone completely fucking forgot how to adjust their driving accordingly during the few off months we have.

At least Midwesterners have comparatively proper ways of handling it. Here in California, the transportation department can outright close major freeways because a lot of people are unprepared, or refuse to be prepared.

Case in point: Interstate 5 is the most important north-south freeway in the state, and provides the fastest connection between the southern and northern parts of the state. One point involves crossing over a 4500 ft pass which often gets snow in winter. When that gets closed, it's a GIANT traffic clusterfuck, with the detours being on highways that greatly increase the travel distance.

Compared to other states I've visited, I have it pretty good up here as far as driving goes. Of course there's a few walnuts who manage to be an inconvenience, but on average, it's a pretty competent group. I still have flashbacks to the few times I had to drive through Atlanta or Houston.

Southern Californian here, I don't know this snow you talk of.

I just want to know why you aren't surprised that water can fall from the sky in the first place.

Lol. As a Canadian I die every time I hear about a city shutting down (or last winter the London Airports) after a few inches of snow. Like maybe if it snowed in Hawaii I'd give them license to panic, but anyone who lives in an area where snow happens should know how to deal by now...

Yeah, but Vancouver.

I've lived in Vancouver my whole life, people here are fucking ridiculous when it snows. No sir, you cannot drive your RWD Mercedes up Queen Elizabeth park in a foot of snow.

In the UK it's kinda annoying because we get at least a few inch snowfall most years and ice is common in the winter. We should be able to cope with it. On the other hand it's like the hottest summer weather in that it's usually no more than two weeks of it so it's not worth a huge investment into equipment/etc to deal with it. (A/C is common in large open plan offices where it's needed, but much rarer in people's homes).

Texas checking in, give us a break please. Our roads are built to steeper grades, and we have like 1 plow. Also the road is made of different material than yours.

Living in Maine, 28 inches of snow. Boss don't care, get to work or you are fired.

I always stay home on the first snow specifically because of this. 30 accidents on day 1 of snow, maybe 2 on day 2.

"Moist". I mean, it's not even that bad of a word.

Most people don't actually hate the word moist, they just want to be part of the echo chamber.

I think most people want to think they started the echo, I see it so often!

Not even sure why people object to this word. It's really odd to me. It seems like a fairly recent trend too, which somehow makes it even weirder.

Everyone always thinks of gross things with the word moist. But it just makes me think of moist chocolate cake, which sounds delicious.

and whenever the word vegan is said in any context

"LOL DID YOU GUYS HEAR THAT? FOUND THE VEGAN!"

also; "how do you know someone is vegan? don't worry...... wait for it...... wait for it...... THEY'LL TELL YOU! AHAHAHAHH"

edit: commas are hard

Seriously though, I can think of multiple occasions at a party or gathering where someone overheard or found out from someone else that I'm vegan and taken it upon themselves to harass me about it, sometimes for the rest of the night.

Good god, I'm vegan and I gotta say most of the time I just go about my daily life, eating my own food, enjoying fruits and veggies and shit. I just do me, but man oh man can people not let that go. Not once, not a single damn time have I ever tried to convince someone to go vegan/vegetarian or even eat less meat. The farthest I will go is encourage someone who confides in wanting a similar lifestyle, and give them any information or recipes they may need. But man, the amount of times I have been insulted, yelled at, gotten rude comments (especially from restaurant staff) for using the "v" word, or had meat/dairy shoved in my face, slipped in my food (lol vegan eating meat, must not be vegan!!! Even tho it's not like I would have eaten it had I known???), been told I'm a pain in the ass are literally countless. I always want to counter with the fact that meat eaters have been more pushy solely to me about eating animal products than I or any of my other vegan friends combined have ever discussed going vegan with a meat eater. But it's a double standard and while it's annoying I'm not gonna get my jimmies rustled literally every time someone is shitty to me because of my personal choices cause I would be pissed all the time. Better to just be the bigger man and prove to everyone how unannoying most vegans are, but apparently because of 2 episodes of Friends and How I Met Your Mother or whatever I am apparently literally Hitler to most of the rest of the world cause I said "no mayo".

There seem to be a lot of folk in the world who see someone doing things differently and take it as a comment on how they're doing things themselves. Which is weird. And massively insecure.

So that's why you get that reaction, I reckon. That and guilt. I constantly feel I should at least try being vegetarian, because there are so many reasons it would be a good idea for me. But it's too much effort. I feel bad about even saying that. I'm lame. :(

Oh let me tell you, after 5 years of not eating meat I have come to the conclusion that people are incredibly insecure about their own eating habits. "You don't eat meat? WHY??? ARE YOU SAYING I DONT LIKE ANIMALS IF I EAT MEAT? FUCK YOU!"

Apple products. Some people like them. Other people do not like them. These are not ideological lines in the sand. They're, you know, phones and stuff.

[–]brigadier_lethbridge 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

So true. I’ve had about enough of people who think Apple invented oxygen and the Android evangelists who believe they are in some epic struggle between good and evil are every bit as annoying.

Middle class people don't have to complain about being hungry, so they complain about phones and stuff. I think it's funny because (I think this stuff is true..) the US has the most depressed people, despite being one of the most developed countries. Because we can afford to be depressed.

If that makes sense.

The most depressed country seems to be Afghanistan:

Nickelback. It's not that I like their music or anything, but what they do can be considered inoffensive at best. They make consistent, safe music that their millions of fans enjoy. They don't even hate on anyone else in doing so (to my knowledge). Their music isn't innovative or ground-breaking, but they stick to what they know they do well, and they get paid millions of dollars to do so. Anyone else in their position would do the same thing.

I'm not saying you have to like their music (I certainly don't), but people love to loudly hate on Nickelback and claim that they're the worst band ever, when they're far from it.

Hating Nickelback is more of a meme than anything. People who claim to hate Nickelback probably don't care all that much.

I think it's mostly a meme/joke at this point. I don't know too many people who legitimately have strong feelings about Nickelback.

Replace the word Nickelback with "Most recent music band" and you'll be hearing it for centuries.

I hated upvoting this, but all of your points were valid. I really hate their music, but it isn't the worst ever, and as people they seem like stand up guys.

The hate for Nickelback should be directed at Train, who actually deserves it.

Learner drivers. People act like encountering one is the worst possible thing that could happen, and usually end up driving as close behind them as possible. When they inevitably stall because some asshole is right behind them pressuring them, they then moan and bitch about it.

My parents do all of these and it irritates me as I'll be learning soon

the neat thing about student drivers is that they have to obey the rules because someone is in the car with them making sure that they do. Therefore, you can be reasonably sure that they will not tailgate, have plenty of room to stop (or even stop short) and always go the speed limit. I do not like being around them either because the speed limit is often too slow but at least they are not wild cards.

It is kind of like being a kid and the doctor says this won't hurt. It sucks getting hurt and it sucks getting lied to but once you understand that "it won't hurt" means "it will hurt" that is basically the same thing as knowing what will happen next. and therefore being able to prepare yourself.

They should remember that they have been in that seat. I try not to tailgate them, I just stay patient and wait to go around.

Anything regarding race, religion, or politics.

Three topics that mature and well adjusted adults should be able to navigate fairly easily, but apparently not.

It's probably because people don't like it when others have a different opinion than theirs and those topics tend to have the most varying views

And a common reaction to someone with a different opinion? Calling them "closed-minded".

Where do you get off calling me closed minded?!?!

And those are the three things i try to avoid talking about with new people. Or with anyone because most of the time i won't care which will make some people really mad "How can you not care?!".

Finding a hair in your food. I know I might be in the minority for this, but I don't think it's all that big a deal to find a lone strand. Yeah, it's kind of gross, I certainly wish it didn't happen, but I'm not going to send back my dish much less make a big scene about it.

Never thought I'd find someone that shared the same opinion on this issue as I do. Just don't eat the fucking hair.

Working in food service, you can be almost daily entertained by the amount of over-reaction people have to the most pointless things.

Hair in my food just absolutely kills my appetite and ruins the meal for me. I wish that weren't the case, but it is.

Oh thats actually a reasonable complaint. I was talking more about the "I demand a refund on this milkshake because you are out of wide straws". Or "Ive waited 2 minuted for my meal and I dont care that its being bagged right now I want a refund!"

It's not that big of a deal to me unless I find it in my mouth. It's not that hair is gross...it's just that there's a high possibility that the person who it came from doesn't have the same standard of hygiene that I do and it's uncomfortable. Not to mention the risk of eating lice or something. Overall, it's not a big deal, but it's just kinda gross.

Bees. I know too much people that start to freak out at the sight of one single innocent bee existing. Gosh, stop screaming and running, bees are not actively trying to sting you.

Bees are so chill, they just want to get to the pollen all day. They don't give a damn about you. I do know of a few people who can't tell the difference between wasps and bees .. that's not impressive in a middle aged adult.

Also, for those in the UK: spiders. Native spiders here are not dangerous and no, you do not have to piss your pants and scream like an idiot when you see one. I know some people have genuine phobias but I think a lot of people really overreact and hype it up. "Oh it was as big as my hand!" "It ran toward me!". It wasn't and it didn't. STFU.

I realise that elsewhere in the world spiders can be bigger and actually dangerous. I don't believe in being afraid of small creatures that can't hurt you, it's just dumb and a waste of energy.

Other people's personal choices. It's none of your business. It doesn't affect you in any way. Why do you care so much? Why do you have to prove how wrong they are and how superior you are for not being like them? It doesn't matter, at all, whether you approve or disapprove of what someone else is doing. They're free to live their life. Get over it. This is exactly why I don't understand all the anger over gay marriage. It's not you, it's not your marriage, it's not going to affect your life in any way. Why do you care?

Similar situation with trans people. People need to fuck off and stop telling me I'm actively destroying the balance of the universe.

To play devils advocate here, why do you care if other people get mad about it?

It just baffles me. I don't understand it. I don't care about it in the sense that I stay up at night worrying about it, it's just one of those things I don't get. I wonder why people waste all that energy. And I get tired of hearing about it.

Well, it's a very personal issue that's close to a lot of people's hearts. The biggest problem is that the people who are mad about gay marriage are actively trying to deny gay people the same rights that they do, for no other reason than what's in their pants. They're also the same people who deny gays marriage licenses, who commit hate crimes against the LGBT community, who fought tooth and nail to deny them the rights that all other Americans get to enjoy.

People also tend to get angry when someone else is prying into their private lives and trying to put their morality on them.

[–]Too_Hot_To_Handle_ 26ポイント27ポイント  (7子コメント)

Misinterpreting directions. If you've ever helped somebody move furniture then you know.

Oh god, just had flashbacks to helping a friend move and this chick went fucking NUTS every time I misunderstood what she wanted me to do. Like, shouting and throwing things and slamming doors nuts. It was the longest goddamn day of my life.

I don't particularly have strong feelings one way or another, but do you really not understand why it would be a heated topic?

For something that is literally just a flap of skin, kinda. People get surprisingly defensive about foreskins. Until the other thread, I never knew people actually resented their parents for having them circumcised.

Seriously. How many people would actually be affected if they had/hadn't been circumcised? I had no idea it was a big deal to people until now.

I had no clue it was a thing until I joined reddit. I'm glad my parents circumcised me, i think it looks weird and uncomfortable the other way, but I don't really know. I just know I have never thought twice about it my entire life.

It is not uncomfortable in the slightest.

One of my best friends was uncircumcised until he was 32 - he had to have it removed for medical reasons and he told me he feels reduced pleasure now that it's not there. For a while it was heightened but it's 2 years on now and says if he had the choice he'd have never had it done :/

It probably only looks weird and uncomfortable because you've never had it any other way. If it was still there, you'd probably think it looked normal.

This goes for the majority of Reddit, too. Revenge, specifically crime. Seriously. Someone who is clearly mentally ill does something wrong? Literally kill him, wish for rape/sexual assault, extreme pain or torture. Yeah, absolutely a good idea. That has been working for centuries to stop crime (/s).

But on a smaller scale, a lady makes a shitty face/comment, people wish physical or serious emotional damage on her, her partner leaves her, her children disown her and her native country kicks her out. I always think about the thread when that one GIF of the man making out with his beer on the kiss cam. Every time it's posted, the majority of the thread fixates on the lady beside him because she makes a (debatable) "bitch" face and people literally wish death and injury on this woman and her family. FFS.

Seriously, you people can be fucking psycho. Chill the fuck out and stop masturbating to your arguments in the shower.

People on reddit regularly seem to think that anyone who is for political correctness is an extreme social justice warrior here to steal your freedom of speech.

Anything that does not directly affect them or their loved ones. We seem to crave the idea that things outside our control and scope of power and influence are things we need to be passionate about, while at the same time totally neglect the people and things closest to us.

It's a shame really.

The opposite of this is people who focus their entire attention on a little circle of people they happen to be related to but probably wouldn't even like if they weren't "family," and fuck everyone and everything else.

Family. FAMILY. FAMILY!!! uber alles.

Articles online.

The reality is we live in a massive world. There always going to be idiots out there. Some of them are terrible, but should not eclipse the fact that the vast majority of people are good.

This does not mean that you should ignore the bad in the world... simply that complaining about having lost all faith in humanity because the articles you see online are horrible doesn't make a lot of sense.

Of course things you read online are going to be horrible... parents waking up and hugging their children isn't news. A grown man rolling around in his backyard with his dog having fun isn't news. A daughter dancing with her father at her wedding isn't news.

If you surround yourself by terrible, and are then confused as to why the world is terrible, that's more your problem than the worlds.

Rain while driving. It's like some people have never witnessed water falling from the sky before and think the end is upon us.

When an 80 year old man makes a slightly racist remark and his entire life is ruined because people over react about everything now.

Edit: Okay, his entire public image. Instead of the " Old guy billionaire who owns the clippers," He is now the " Old Racist Billionaire who was forced to disown the Clippers because he made one racist remark".

I work with the elderly. can confirm that none of them have a proper filter, regardless of how mentally competent they are. my grandma lives alone and is fully self-sustaining at 82 and she still says racist stuff all the time

there are all sorts of behavioral and cognitive theories in psychology about why this is, but my belief is: they just don't give any more fucks

My grandmother showed me a poem she wrote when she was a kid in sunday school I kid you not it went along the lines of,

God made black people in the night,

He was in such a hurry,

He forgot to make them white.

Or something along those lines.

My grandpa dropped a bomb at lunch last weekend:

"If Lincoln had minded his own business, we'd all have a lot more help around here."

Damn, grandpa.

It's not like he said something mildly racist that we can generally forgive old people for. It's one thing for an older person to say "negros" or "the blacks." it's another thing entirely to say someone shouldn't associate with black people and he doesn't want black people coming to his games.

Donald Sterling was racist wayyyyyy before he was old and exemplified it with wayyyyyy more than one comment

Really? You guys are going to upvote this? The owner of the Clippers was a racist man who owned a team composed of mostly black people. There was no overreaction. That shit's not okay. But your comment gets upvoted because it's edgy and goes against the popular opinion.

Sterling did not make one racists remark. He has a history of those types of comments and has had to pay fines and settlements for discriminatory practices in his real estate.

Well, someone overreacted when I said that it's okay if a woman gets an abortion after getting raped. They kept missing the point of emotional stress and emotional instability. It's getting pointless to argue with this person.

News story headlines. Seriously the headline usually presents one detail completely out of context that will catch the readers eye. Most people use this to determine their entire opinion on an event that they know nothing about.
