You're right, makes a lot of sense.

Nowadays, this wouldn't be much less of an issue since engines tend to be written in low/mid-level stuff (C/C++) and the game logic in a high level scripting language such as Lua. So you just rewrite the engine to work on the new platform, and you're good to go.

the level and amount of /r/badatheism -worth comments being made here is ridiculous. I don't know if youtubook is leaking or what but some people are too idiotic to realize by themselves. Don't bother reading much of the stuff below if you don't want brain cancer.

I considered upvoting your post, right up until this sentence. I'm a semi-militant atheist (as in; quite vocal, but not quite motivated to go firebomb mosques or whatever) and I have a problem with this somewhat passive-agressive expectation that atheism needs to be a certain way in order to merit validation. Incredibly, in the year 2015, with everybody carrying a device in their pocket able to instantly access the sum of all human knowledge pretty much wherever you go (given you're not too isolated from civilisation), us atheists are still in the minority. In my opinion, religion deserves no respect at all. Think I'm a dick? Feel free to. Do you care what I think about you?

the idea that they deserved to die was certainly implied

No. It wasn't, at all. I feel sorry for them. More so, I feel sorry for the loved ones they left behind. I do feel that there is a borderline hilarious amount (which may not be the best choice of words given the circumstances, but fuck it) of irony here, with large amounts of people dying gruesomely (on several occasions), with the fucked up, manufactured apologist rationale that they consider it an honor to be killed by that which they love so much.

Absolutely. Religions make me cringe. Some of them make me cringe less than others. I find there's a lot of stuff worthy of respect in religions such as buddhaism (which is more of a philosophy really) and even hinduism, even if I do not subscribe to them (as you may have guessed, secular humanist atheist here).

And you'd have to be incredibly dense to interpret the my previous posts the way you did (not to mention digging in my history is a pretty sad thing to do). You completely ignore the context. The first comment is very, very obviously a joke of the kind people post several thousand times a day on Reddit. Go on, click the link and make up your own mind.

I am amazed how you manage to twist 'Ever since women became empowered and in control who they make babies with, men with feminine qualities and features are deemed the most attractive. I wonder what men will look like in 400 years." around to accusing me of promoting ethnic cleansing.

Congrats, you earned the title 'dumbass of the day'.

I did not say that at all. I don't even believe that. Stop trying to put words in my mouth, and work on your sub-par interpretation skills.

You know what's truly ironic? That muslims believe they deserved to die. According to their faith, every single thing happens because their god wills it. Since you appear to have enough brain cells to log on to reddit and to post messages without spelling errors, chances are you're smart enough to see the sickening hypocrisy behind this.

I would like to stress that what I'm about to write is in no way intended to make you feel even worse, but islam is an embarassing abomination on mankind. Other religions make me cringe too, but not nearly as much as islam. It's a PROBLEM. Islam is VIOLENT, divisive, misogynistic, and utterly, UTTERLY incapable of critical self-introspection.

Wow, this is a touchy subject for you, isn't it?

If you must know, I also have a degree in Java EE and I have used it to develop applications to be used professionally (last thing I did was this database/GPS app for a large petrochemical plant), and as I mentioned, it's absolutely fine for that kind of thing. I don't mind deploying VM's on the company's virtual servers. In fact, I'd probably pick Java over C++ every time in that situation, because you can get more done in less time with it, and you don't need to worry about things like memory leaks or security issues nearly as much.

However, I hate doing that on my own personal machines. As you may have guessed, I'm a Linux nerd (running my own personal little distribution with a fully custom-built modular desktop environment), and I'm (probably overly) concerned with what software is present on them. I don't have a VM installed, not even OpenJDK, because it's entirely unnecessary.

If you are developing a hobby project for your own personal use, or to launch it as open source, then time(=money) pressure becomes much less of an issue, and you're likely to want to get it as good as you can possibly make it. C++ is in that case a much better choice. You end up with a nice standalone binary executable that interacts directly with the OS, not dependant on the presence of a layer that sits inbetween (owned by a large profit-driven multinational), and continues to need a degree of runtime interpretation.

Does the average user care? No, absolutely not. They're happy to see an icon they can click on after installation to start using the software.

However, the average user also doesn't care what OS they run - as long as it provides access to their facebook, games, porn and netflix, they're happy, despite the OS clearly stating that every single thing they do with it is logged by the manufacturer, to be used however they wish, without needing the user's consent.

Actually all this talk about Java is starting to bore me immensely.

Here's a little information to blow your mind. Muslims believe that nothing ever happens outside of their god's cosmic plan. So, these people were meant to die.

Let's review;

1.) People travel far to honor and praise their god 2.) This god decides : 'yah, I feel like killing several hundred of my fans today. Let's see. Him, her, ugh, definitely him, hey, what about a few children too, I'm bored' 3.) Survivors praise him even more

PS Not wishing harm on them at all. I feel truly sorry for their children. I'm just pointing out the incredible irony.

I watched The Kid, Modern Times, and The Dictator, and they all impressed the living shit out of me. This man was an incredible talent.

Don't believe a word of this. The N64 and 3DS are entirely different beasts. Different CPU, different video hardware, different architecture. You can't just load the N64's source code in your 3DS IDE and recompile it. Besides, didn't they use assembly still in the N64 days?

Assets were most definitely reused (and spruced up), but I'm fairly certain the game was coded from the ground up.

atheism 内の Isaac_Asimovs_Sheep によるリンク The stampede during the hajj in Saudi Arabia was the deadliest disaster since 2006, when more than 360 pilgrims were killed in a stampede but fewer than in 1990 when more than 1,400 died in a stampede inside a tunnel. "It's become the running of the bulls."

[–]pooshhMao 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

This may sound cold, but I'm delighted by the irony that according to muslims and the cosmic plan that their god laid out for them, it's their own fault.

On my last job, I had to work with a muslim. Over lunch, we discussed philosophy a few times. Apparently, absolutely nothing happens outside what allah planned. So, if you child is born with anencephaly, it is because it was his will.

So don't feel bad, these people were intended to die gruesomely all along, by the most loving, caring entity in the entire universe.

It's not just American. I notice a lot of animosity against science, mostly by women, because science isn't sexy, ya know? Example, I know this chick that claims hypersensitivity to gluten. Whenever I tell her that studies from respectable institutes indicate that there might not be such a thing after all and that it might very well be the next 'all-natural' marketing scheme, she loses her shit. I also point out that that phone she enjoys staring at so much and the clothes she is wearing all boils down to science and it totally confuses her.
