The Saudi ultra religious do not like the saudi government and do not support modernisation and westernization. They in fact hate that the Saudi government is pals with the US. How much influence these ultra religious have on the govt I don't know but its not insignificant.

Yes it's sad that women aren't treated equally in most Muslim countries. But its not just Muslims, India is a Hindu country and women are still fighting for equal rights , both Muslim and Hindu women. Also turkey is an Islamic nation with equal rights.
