You know what I liked best about them and that show? They didn't drag out their courtship to milk it in that cheap "will they, won't they" way for season after season like most shows would do. They just got married and continued being awesome. It was a surprisingly refreshing change of pace from the typical sitcom formula.

I was more concerned they were going to break up for some stupid reason. I'm glad the writers decided not to.

Well, that and Chris Pratt didn't leave the show which could have possibly required it.

I love that in season 1, he's listed as a "Guest Starring Chris Pratt." Was it assumed Andy wouldn't be a recurring character?

I was under the impression that this is actually the case, but he did such a good job they made him a permanent addition.

Well, it's true what they say... when you fall in the pit, you've just got to climb right back on out!

I have no idea what this is from. But if they make marshmallow shooters, I'm going to get me one. My wife would be ecstatic if I switched from shooting her with semen to marshmallows while she's sleeping.

Yeah, he was going to be Ann's lame ex boyfriend, who would move on from her in season one and never been seen again.

Kinda like Mark Brandanoquitz

I'm really shocked they didn't at least give him a cameo in the last episode. Did he leave on really bad terms or something?

I don't know if he's actually on bad terms with everyone, but I believe his reason for leaving was essentially

"This show isn't going anywhere and I can do better"

he wasnt slated as an on-going character. He was supposed to be the lazy deadbeat boyfriend that you hated and then was gone after one season..but everyone ended up really liking the character so they decided to keep him on.

Pratt brought a lot more to the role than they intended and sort of changed their idea of who Andy was.

Pratt brought a lot more to the role than they intended and sort of changed their idea of who Andy was.

A lot of the characters on that show had that feel. Offerman's Ron Swanson was another great example.

He wasn't supposed to be in more than one season but everyone loved him so much that they decided to keep him.

Shame really. Maybe we would have gotten a good comeback story.

e: yes, like kim kardashian. thatsthejoke.jpeg

They were going along with your joke. Your edit ruined it.

Surely he'll learn one day that, when you set up a joke, you must accept that someone else gets to tell the punchline.

In this case the setup was so obvious I think the punchline wasn't necessary.

Like Seabiscuit? The Mighty Ducks? Robert Downey Jr.?

I'm halfway through watching this show on Netflix, and I was kinda worried there'd be some ridiculous breakup drama. I'm glad for this spoiler.

I liked when he lost all that weight Andy just said he "stopped drinking beer"

They did this with every single wedding in the show. No buildup just sudden "shit let's get married" moments. April and Andy, Leslie and Ben, Ron and Xena warrior princess.

HOLY SHIT I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT WAS XENA UNTIL JUST FUCKING NOW.

If I'm me, I should probably refer to my own username.

Xena warrior princess

I thought this was a joke, chuckled a bit, then realized that HOLY CRAP IT IS.

If that surprised you go ahead and watch the Stars version of Spartacus.

I feel they did that well with Ben and Leslie too. There was a bit at the beginning when they couldn't get together when they worked together, but after that? Smooth sailing. Can't ever forget the moment where Leslie is trying to decide on telling Ben about running for office, and Ben gives her a pin or something. Definitely teared up then

They were absolutely my favorite tv couple. So natural, with a reasonable courtship without stupid drama, and so perfect for each other while still having their own unique and awesome personalities.

I couldn't believe how well done that was.

Ben Wyatt gave my girlfriend unrealistic expectations of how the boyfriend to a strong, professional woman should act.

She is absolutely my Leslie Knope. And I try every day to be her Ben Wyatt.

I think I'm doing okay (I really fucking love calzones and sci-fi/fantasy).

Edit: this is kind of a (true) joke. We have actually been compared to Ben and Leslie, a lot. It doesn't help that I resemble Adam Scott.

Well good luck! That's awesome you're conscious of it in that way.

Can't ever forget the moment

gives her a pin or something.

Are you sure?

If that was me not forgetting, you should see what its like when I do!

Ben's proposal makes me really really emotional, haha. I tear up just about every time. This is one of my favorite shows.

What really stood out for me is their wedding episode... I was certain it would follow the formula of "They're crazy, the protagonist convinces them to stop." But instead, it was just a really happy wedding, Leslie admits that they're cute together, she and Ron have a legitimately interesting conversation on love and weddings, and then Ron describes how to burn his ex-wife in effigy.

[–]Yokuo 4

I'm right there with you. Just saw the series for the first time about a month ago, and during that episode, I kept waiting for someone to go "Guys, what even are you doing I literally can't." (but, you know, not like that). It never happened, they got married, and things were solid. I loved the change of pace.

I can't tell you how sick and fucking tired i am of that happening; Especially with the new season premier of Big Bang Theory. I've never seen this show before but I am changing that immediately!

Uh oh...you just mentioned the big bang theory on reddit...

That's a first.

i watched it once when i was hospitalized for shitting large amounts of blood out and they only had two channels on the tvs

surprisingly, it actually managed to get my mind off of my gastrointestinal system's attempts to murder me

mostly because the show was more painful than the lining of my colon sloughing off

I watched it once. Then I was hospitalized for shitting large amounts of blood.

The show is shit. The end

Terrible unadulterated and other hateful comments because I never watched it.

Hmm, yes... shallow and pedantic.

BBT presents unrealistic representations of geek culture for cheap laughs! They don't know what they are talking about half the time AND I FUCKING HATE THEM

edit: /s

It's shit, but I feel it isn't more outrageously shitty than most other shows on the same network

The reason it gets the amount of hate it does is because of how it portrays people who are techies or nerds, and the pop culture references you get from grandma because she watches it

the pop culture references you get from grandma because she watches it

this. also your friend who "loves science"

Cue laugh track.

The best comment I ever heard about it was "It's like a 'nerd' minstrel show". Sums it up pretty well.

I personally think anyone who gets annoyed when a TV show represents "nerd culture" wrong, or indeed anyone who thinks "nerd culture" is a thing, should get a grip.

That being said, it's a pretty poorly written show.

I dunno 'bout poorly written in general, but there's a hell of a lot more character development in that show than in any other sitcom I've seen, particularly HIMYM. The characters actually change and are fleshed out as the show goes on, as opposed to other sitcoms which are basically just a collection of 20-minute vignettes of stuff happening to a handful of people.

They change, but not in a particularly realistic way. In the first TBBT episode Sheldon goes to a sperm bank. In the newer stuff he probably doesn't even know what masturbation is. It's Flanderization, which is not really good character development.

I don't like being one of those guys who moans about TBBT though, so I'll stop now.

It's Flanderization, which is not really good character development.

oh so like every secondary character on the office who went from 'normal office people sick of Michael scott' in the first season to being

shallow indian

hypocritical religious woman

weirdo

selfish guy who wants to leave work

alcoholic

fat dumb guy

gay intellectual

and whatever the heck their idea was for Phyllis.

"Penny, why don't you love me?"

"You're a geek!"

Sheldon: "BAZOOPER"

Was watching Chuck for the first time the other week. The "will they, won't they" is really getting on my fucking nerves.

They got married so quickly that I thought they were doomed. But turns out they were perfect for each other, and now will always be one of my favorite TV couples of all time.

Because that wasn't their character. You're totally ignoring all the relationship indecisiveness associated with Rashida Jone's character.

I totally agree, but not just about them. Every character in the show is just completely straight forward, there is no any soap opera BS, no drama, no negativity, no stupid cliches nor twists. It's just happy, positive, beautiful, funniest show in the world.

cough Ross and Rachel cough

It was even the exact opposite of that. They started dating, invited their friends over for a party, then boom. Wedding and done. Everyone gets on with their lives.

Even though Parks was a spiritual successor of the Office, this is one of my top few reasons where Parks succeeds and the Office bludgeons. Leslie and Ben/Andy and April had fun quick snippets of them getting together, even the weddings just kinda happened, and then the show moved on to more humor. The Office, more than anything, is a horribly drawn out rom-com. Every episode there were 10-15 minutes of Jim/Pam, Dwight/Angela, or some other team members slowly winking at each other and then slowly talking to the camera, saying in so many words, "HEY! IDIOT AUDIENCE MEMBER! WE LIKE EACH OTHER, STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT 3 SEASONS TO SEE IF THIS PANS OUT" And then Michael is painfully awkward, and reddit parrots on about it for the next fifteen years.

Jim and Pam got together in about the same amount of time as Andy and April though. For both it took like two seasons.

Two things:

  • The show made a huge deal of Jim and Pam's will they/won't they thing. April and Andy had a couple episodes where they're seeing flirting, I think there's one episode where they talk about maybe not getting together. And then they're together, continue to be awesome, and the show moves forward with them as a couple.

  • Then, Jim and Pam's relationship continued to be a huge plot point pretty frequently. It truly got in the way of far better plots and lots of humor later on in the show. Their relationship would get shoved in the audience's face constantly. It was practically about a couple who works in the same office together (and oh yeah here's their coworkers for a few minutes), versus what I think we all wanted it to be, which was a show about an office and all the things that happen in it.

For both it took like two seasons.

jim and pam started dating the last episode of the 3rd season/first episode of the 4th season

I like the fact that this isn't your novelty account. Instead, what we are witnessing is you getting on your soapbox about the subject which is important enough to you as to form the basis of your reddit username. How beautiful.

Well, they did drag out the two of them getting together at all for like two seasons.

Bit it want really implied at all in the first season. He was Anne's boyfriend the whole time

If you believe it was confirmed her, doesn't it matter at all?

It was her.

It definitely was her.

With those artistic abilities this could pass for a penis pump ad.

Don't know why you got downvoted, I thought this was hilarious.

Man holding...cylindrical thing, in underwear. smiling woman in bed. Shotgun shells?

Well 2/3 in favor of penis pump ad.

I will update you on the diabetes.

Being a healthy adult means having a well balanced diet that will include ice cream every so often. Which I included. This morning.

I'm 40, and WAY too many people take life too seriously. I've noticed that a lot of people my age and older are starting to lose their personality or something.

I'm not saying people should make a joke out of everything all the time... but crack a smile when someone else unknowingly says a sexual innuendo.

In your end o.

Now I have to listen to that song.

If by song you mean "The Todd's Greatest Hits" then yes, yes you should.

So far no one noticed that I said "But Crack". I'm a little disappointed in reddit.

I'll tell you what. I'm 38 for another week or so.

I started an adult Lazer Tag group-- meet up at local parks with my stash of LTAR blasters, a bunch of LED glowsticks, flashlights, some old smart phones with neat apps, and 2 spygear night vision goggles. We play tactical games for hours on end.

We have a just a few regulars. But I'm having a hard time finding more people to play. You get various adults who are like "that sounds awesome," and then never come to a game.

I mean, when I was a kid-- I wanted all the toys. I wanted to play all the games. Now I'm an adult and I can afford all the toys. I can play all the games. Everyone else is too busy being boring.

OH MAN. LASER TAG! As an adult I love that game even more. And you're right... being older means being able to afford new toys

You just happen to be in Pittsburgh, right?

We have something like that near me. We have ex-marines show up, entire university drum line showed up once. All it honestly takes is a few college students and it picks up quick. We started with 8 of us, now we have close to 40 people and its growing faster than ever!

I have to struggle not to laugh whenever I'm triaging a memory leak issue in a running process. You'd think I'd be inured to someone asking me to "take a dump" by now, but it's never not funny.

My SO tries to avoid walking past the Lego section while we are shopping for this exact reason. If I'm going to drop a ton of money on a fucking rug, I'm sure as hell going to get something I will actually enjoy.

We are two fully employed childless adults sitting just either side of 30, and we are almost certainly going to be buying a Lego shield helicarrrier in the near future. 0 fucks given, lol.

Whenever I have the money for it, I'm gonna buy a death star Lego set. I DGF about what my SO says, it's gonna happen.

If you're anything like I was as a kid, you drooled over those huge sets four years, but knew they were way too expensive to even ask for. Now you can form a budget and justification, so why the hell not indulge in a childhood dream?

It does feel good to indulge in childhood playtime. ONe day I just said fuckit and dropped $500 on ebay for some M.A.S.K. toys, fuck I loved that show when I was a kid and we coudln't afford the Rhino or any of the bigger toys from that lineup. Bitch the Rhino and muthafucking Boulder Hill were first on the list...and on that day, I lived like a King.

Why would you want an SO who isn't cool with a Death Star LEGO set?

I'm going to buy bricks. Just the bricks, no sets or whatever. And then I'll build houses. And buildings. I'll make a deserted village.

I know I'm old, because I would totally enjoy a new rug.

I've been tormenting myself for weeks now, because we re-arranged the furniture in the living room so everything flows better, but now the giant stain that the armchair was hiding is completely visible. So now I need a nice area rug. But like, a REALLY GREAT one. And I'm being really picky about it.

I ain't even mad about how boring adult life is, I'm stoked about getting a rug.

Just make the rug out of Lego, you're going to step on them eventually anyway.

I see which side of the Lego plural fight you're on.

You guys should do LEGO together. I felt the exact same way, until a friend invited me to help him build his LEGO city and it was the most fun I've ever had. Plus it's always sexy watching a guy do something he enjoys and is good at.

My SO and I buy and build LEGO together. We always get ourselves a big piece for Christmas and some smaller throughout the year. Being a DINK is great.

Wait but my husband and I love shopping for cutting boards and dish racks. Are we boring adults? :(

Just how many cutting boards and dish racks do you have?

Wouldn't it be beautiful if you meet /u/is_annoyed and they become your SO?

Or is that just you when you're not annoying?

I saw a solid walnut cutting board the other day, I'm still all amped up about wanting to buy it, you're not alone.

You don't have to be boring to love food and cooking it. Dish racks are boring though. Fuck dish racks. We're a paper plate family.

Sure....He's going to be shooting "marshmallows" at her face in her sleep.

One day I walked in the door and my husband threw me a nerf gun that he just bought, and laid a box of ammo at my feet. "You have 20 seconds to get ready" then he fired a nerd dart at my head.

I asked him what's going on, and got another nerf dart to the head.

It was a pretty awesome day to be an adult.

This warmed my heart a little

are there really people that have relationships like this? IT'd be nice

You can choose to have one yourself. Just go find the right partner and do it!

Wasn't this a relationship LPT at some point? I swear I've read this somewhere, and I'm guessing that's where your SO got the idea...

Google "nerd gun Pinterest" and you will find tons of images of this "happening". Always the note on the floor or by the door surrounded by nerf guns, water guns or some other toy that launches projectiles. I see it pinned all the fucking time on my friend's "relationship goals" boards.

I see it all on the time on Twitter from people retweeting those "goals" pages.

This didn't happen you clown

Oh come on, are you telling me the same person who posted about their ex-husband, their daughter, then on child-free being excited they weren't going to have a child, and then has a husband again who shoots nerf darts at them is lying?? On the internet?? You really think that is possible????

So he was far enough away to throw you a nerf gun, close enough to lay ammo at your feet and then far enough away to launch one at your head. Okay.

[–]Delicious_Albino 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Or, you know, he could have legs and have walked around during all of this. My sister and her husband have a closet of Nerf guns. I don't see why this is so unbelievable.

Can we stop reposting this every fucking week.. i've seen it twice on this subreddit in the last week

Bro what is your problem?? We have Chris Pratt, as Andy Dwyer none the less, Parks and Rec, Aubrie Plaza, and a 9gag watermark. this is going to sit on the front page for at least 12 hours. Best to just strap in and ride this circlejerk all the way until Friday, when it is posted again.

Such a great show.

Edit: I hate all of you.

Reminds me of when my husband put the remote control fart machine receiver in my purse and set it off while I was in line paying at the grocery store. .....the romance!

yikes a 9gag watermark constant repost. Yet has 3k upvotes. that's the real humor here.

lol every single butthurt imgur commenteer in the anusverse, rise up

I was happy about Parks & Rec, but disappointed it wasn't a "True Romance" movie reference.

It's got a million famous faces in it. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are the stars but it has Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Samuel L Jackson, Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer. and plenty of recognizable lesser stars (Chris Penn, Michael Rappaport, James Gandolfini).

It's probably my favorite Gary Oldman character. Written by Tarantino, some of the most quotable lines, scored by Hans Zimmer... And hardly anyone I ever talk to has seen it.

True Romance. Still one of my favorite movies. When Patricia Arquette gets the snot beat out of her and comes back to kill that mobster -- now THAT'S balls.

Great scene, greater show. But, this has gotta be up there with the most re-posted Parks & Rec tile in Reddit history.
