Honestly though most furries I know who suit out in public love having kids come tell them the costume is awesome and want a picture or whatever. The parents tend to be a mix of not wanting the kids to go over or really getting into it themselves and wanting to take pictures or ask questions.

Eh. I went to anthrocon a couple years back. I'm not a furry but I decided "why the fuck not? This should be an interesting trip down the rabbit hole".

They had some weirdos, for sure. Perhaps a higher than average concentration of weirdos, relative to most other populations, but to be quite honest they were all very nice people... other than the assholes jumping in the elevator who eventually broke it.

I wouldn't take my kids to a furry convention. That's kinda "their space" where they feel completely liberated to, say, run up and tackle random people... they have a term for that which I forget [Edit: It's "glomp"]... But I wouldn't have any problems letting my kids take a picture with someone in a full fur suit that I saw at some random location.
