The sentence construction doesn't make any sense. It may be a minor thing but when writing dialogue you want it to do 2 things: send the message and information you want the readers to read and to make it sound like actual people are talking. It's a fine balance but here the writer has chosen to go barebones with the dialogue and only deliver information which makes the characters sounds robotic and unrealistic.
