How did she not fall into the TV? I was so expecting her to fall into the TV.

My first thought too "Bet the TV goes to TV heaven by the end of this".

Because she fell in the opposite direction of the TV. That's why.

Can confirm. Watched gif.

Watching Duck Dynasty, I was hoping she'd fall into it.

I actually think duck dynasty is pretty funny. Sure, it's probably staged, but if you suspend your disbelief it's pretty entertaining.

Man, not only is Duck Dynasty a reality television show, but it features rednecks. If they somehow shoehorned a Kardashian in there, it would be the ultimate trifecta of Reddit hate. I'm shocked you haven't been more downvoted for having a different opinion than the rest of Reddit.

Well they're also devout Christians, so I'd say they do have the trifecta wrapped up...

I see she is following the three fundamentals of all balance related activities:

1: keep your knees locked. 2: stay loose in the core. 3: wave your arms like you're getting attacked by bees.

Actually, when I had the opportunity to ride one of these I found that it was much easier to balance with your knees locked than it is with them bent.

I just started to review one and that's what I found as well. It's pretty much planking while standing with a bit of a bend at the knee. It's all in the foot tilt.

Sounds like a design flaw considering if you stand with your knees locked for too long, it can restrict blood flow and cause you to pass out

Spent a lot of years in the military and I've seen people drop in as little as 5 minutes. Locking your knees at attention and parade rest is not as simple as you think.

We had this one douche of a colonel who like to hear himself talk and 45 minutes into it, half of my flight had fallen out.

One poor girl cracked her head on the hangar door and needed stitches. This douche just kept on talking.

I was part of the division in boot camp that had the role of overseeing the graduation. I had the job of spotting recruits that were about to fall out of ranks to pull them back before they ate shit.

[–]IsawIcame_Icleanedup 6ポイント7ポイント  (5子コメント)

The performance division seemed to have it made. With the exception of having to do graduation ceremonies day after day after day. Those things were boring enough having to do it for yourself.

We are put on a pedestal, but I can say at least for my division we earn each and every flag that boot camp had to offer even the captain's cup. It did come with nice privileges though, like skipping in front of everyone in the chow line.

What in the actual fuck are you talking about? What is a performance division?? What flags do you earn at boot camp? What the hell is a captain's cup? I swear to god I was in the military and I don't have a clue what you're talking about. Am I going crazy?

What branch were you? This is US Navy's RTC they're talking about, I believe.

Performance division is the division that is a little different than the other division we still did normal boot but with a lot of emphasis on graduation ceremony. Divisional flags are carried around after earning them through good test scores, passing the physical tests, weapons Qual etc. Captains Cup is a recruit wide sports championship. Getting the highest score during the cup gets you the flag showing everyone you are top dog. Like the comment below me, this is Navy's boot.

Change of Commands are bullshit. Just a dog and pony show with ZERO meaning.

"Oh I take this flag and hand it to you."

"Wow. You are now in charge."

Now go speak for an hour in this 100 degree weather. Fucking pricks.

"Wow. You are now in charge."

This is what went through my mind. The internet has officially beaten me.

If it's an event, he shouldn't stop talking. Whenever someone thinks there might be a chance someone passes out, which is not that uncommon, there will be people outside the formation keeping and eye on things and taking those about to fall to the back.

I was in formation in a ceremony in Brazil and it was hot as all hell. We were only 18-23 years old, but a good chunk (30-35%?) passed out and were taken to an ambulance at the back.

[–]PM_YOUR_BOOBS_PLS_ 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

I am absolutely positive I have heard this exact same story, with slightly different words, several times on reddit.

[–]Humpa 4

The point is letting the thing do the balancing for you. If you try to balance too much yourself this happens. So yeah. Bending in the knee is for self balancing.

Wave your arms like they're noodles FTFY

Her hair is amazing

Seems like this comment caused quite a controversy

All deleted, what did they say?

She stayed on that thingie a lot longer than I was expecting, and the fall was disappointing.

"Wanna try it outside?"

"Hell no, there are no glass cases and TVs outside! Duh!"

Doing that on a tile floor is probably a bad choice

Doing that near a TV is probably a bad choice.

Actually no, I have 1 and they're a lot harder to ride outside

I didn't even realize people tile their living room floors. I thought it was carpet or hardwood.

I have tile in my living room. Actually my whole house is tiled, but I live in the Caribbean and it's pretty common here (I've actually never seen carpeting in room down here now that I think about it).

Also, how the hell could you mistake that floor for carpet or hardwood?

I didn't mistake it for either, I was saying that I've only ever seen carpet or hardwood.

Wait, are mom jeans cool with the youths now?!

Yeah they seem to be making some sort of comeback. I also found acid-wash jeans in Target a few weeks ago.

And what appears to be a scrunchy? Are they back? Please don't tell my wife.

[–]PM_YOUR_BOOBS_PLS_ 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Yes. They actually are...

I don't think they get that the point of high waisted jeans are to hide c-section scares and post-birth stomach fat...

Some douche at my school has one of these, and he makes a point to use it as much as possible. For instance, he carried it up the stairs, and set it down to ride the 2 feet to the door before picking it up again. I don't know why, but it just made me livid. Maybe I have anger issues, it's not like he was doing anything to me... I think I need to reassess the way I'm living my life.... Why am I getting angry about things that have no impact on me? It's not like he's affecting me in any way. He's just doing something that I wouldn't do.....

No.... Fuck that guy.

Better to laugh at people than be mad at people

Or just not be jealous that you can't look like a badass too

He's either showing off or having fun. If he's showing off, he's too small to elicit anger and more deserving of pity. If he's having fun: why begrudge him that?

I might write this down

edit: I did

Well you might have everybody else sold. I still don't believe you.

You're just jealous bro

*envious

Homer Simpson taught me that.

so, um, genuine question, if someone knowledgeable about English were to teach us, she'd say that it's jealously, right? It looks like jealousy is envy with resentment, I think (?)

envy is coveting something someone else has

jealousy is the fear that something you have will be taken away

in this instance envious is technically correct but colloquially the two have become more or less interchangeable.

edit: I think it's probably in the best interest of everyone's time for them to just ignore me here

I'm a little worried (to a verrrry small degree of course) that some users are using that post to develop too stringent of a "well, actually" definition of jealousy.

Dictionary.com's first definition is that it's envious resentment. It's the 2nd with Merrian-Webster. If I was the God of English, I would proclaim that limiting "jealously" to fear of loss as being an unnecessary restriction. It seems like it would make sense to not focus just on the fear of loss, but instead, focus on the resentment that comes from that fear. If you are hurt by your wife having a close man-friend, it makes sense to refer to that as jealously even if you are not afraid of having her being (")taken(") away

*it seems like there's a gap in which angry envy doesn't have a word, even though it's a frequent feeling, much more than envy + fear of loss

When popular usage aligns with practicability and usefulness, that seems like it should be a linguistic dream and the definition that ppl go along with

Maybe I have the wrong definition of "resentment." After reading the definition, I am unclear if resentment can come from just getting "shown-up" by seeming inferior to someone else or if there actually has to be a fear of substantive negative result

I think you're confused because you're assigning a negative connotation to both words, when jealousy is an inherently bad feeling and envy is not (although it can be, especially if accompanied by feelings of inadequacy).

I was always taught that one is envious of things, and jealous of proper nouns.

I am jealous of Jessie because I am envious of her hair.

I'm jealous of Dallas because I covet their stadium.

I for one think it is shallow and pedantic.

Whats it called if I envy my neighbours wife, but I'm fearful of someone else taking her away?

There's a lot of angry kids on reddit.

What is that thing she is riding?

I believe they are called glidrs. http://myglidr.com/products/glider-2-0-segway

Oh, that's really cool how they dropped the 'e'! It makes it like a vehicle from the cyber-age!

  • "next generation of transportation"

  • expensive

  • basically a segway without the handle

  • you still look like a douche when you ride it

  • a bicycle outperforms it in every area except for its size, but unlike a bicycle that you can lock to a pole, you would have to lug this around everywhere

another dumb toy for rich kids

9-12 miles per hour.....

[–]Fawkz 5

12mph is a fast jog. Pretty efficient actually.

[–]Ecpie 4

That's a 5 minute mile. More than efficient...impressive.

I like how the site scrolls in such a way that it actually covers up the product in the photos and just shows the douchebros riding them.

From what I hear, a lot of people use them in san francisco.

This brand of product is called "Powerboard"

These things are all over my college campus. They just came out of nowhere this semester.

They've had a huge spend on getting celebrities and models to use them: https://instagram.com/p/6qH8MlMd_r/

Their website appears to be down at the moment.

Edit: apparently there are a lot of brands selling this, which makes me think someone's producing and letting people brand. IO Hawk, Glidr, MiracleBoard all seem to be nearly identical.

Do you know which brand is the cheapest and how much?

Been looking at these for a while. That one is a 6.5" tire version. There are 10" tire versions with 350W motors instead of 250W.

The thing is, they're all made in the same plants in China. They're all the same. Some of the 10" ones come with remotes. Besides that, they're all over Ebay as either "hoverboard" or "self balancing scooter". The brands don't seem to matter.

Also, the little ones are about $300 and the bigger ones run around $500 (from US sellers). IOHawk and the like are the same thing with $1200 price tags, and no, they didn't invent them, they just say they did. Save your money.....

Wow. Segways finally got popular

Actually Segway are suing some of the manufacturers of these for patent infringement. It makes you wonder though, segways sell for thousands where these have the same core technology and sell for 300.

only if you go straight to chinese source of them. otherwise they can cost over 1k by us resailers

Hoverboard, Hoverwheels, etc

It looks like a segway but without the thing you hold to keep balance.

I always thought those things looked pretty difficult to ride

They're actually not, I have one. You just have to let it balance you, and not flail around like an octopus.
