ITT: A bunch of autists who think it's acceptable to put friends and family through this weird, themed bullshit because they can.

I love that people think it's easy to "just not go." -- Virtually every wedding I've ever attended was more out of obligation than desire.

Weddings generally have open bars... I don't know if there's much I desire more than free alcohol.

Weddings generally have open bars

Maybe we know different people, but of the 10ish wedding I've been to, only 3 have had open bars - I wouldn't say it's to be expected at every wedding. Generally some alcohol is provided, like wine or beer with dinner, but an open bar all night is no guarantee.

I guess I need to appreciate my friends more.

There are only a couple reasons to not have an open bar, and most of those reasons (can't afford it, religious) would also preclude having a nerdy video game cosplay wedding.

"Free" after you put your money envelope in the basket thing.

Nice strawman, but you do know the alternative to free alcohol at a wedding is paying for your alcohol at a wedding. You typically give the gift regardless if the alcohol is free or not.

After spending hundreds on flights, hotels, gifts, etc...

did you even look at the wedding album?

the wedding is perfectly normal, nerdy enough to satisfy their needs, yet traditional enough to keep everyone that might not understand comfortable.

your just being a cunt for the sake of being a cunt and your not actually going off of the content in hand.

they did a great job and it genuinely looks like everyone had a good time.

Thank you. It was our goal to not go overboard, and we know not every has the same taste. It was a lot of work to put together, and almost out of our budget, but in the end we got married and there were a lot of happy people there that day. :)

Well hell if your gonna do it you might as well go all out. They just have one dude cosplaying in the middle of a wedding. Why didnt they dress up as Booker and Elizabeth or something? Oh wait, thats right......nevermind.

obligation than desire.

Simple rule for making me want to go to your wedding? Open bar.

I hate going to weddings as much as the next guy, but it's not your wedding. It's a day for the couple to be happy and if they want a theme, they should be able to have a theme. Besides, you can't tell much from the photo anyway. The bride is in a traditional wedding dress, not a costume, and there are no other BioShock elements anywhere. So this was probably just a performer that got hired or a rented costume that someone wore at the reception because the couple happens to like BioShock.

As if that's going to stop judgemental assholes like the person you responded to.

It's not something I would do, but some people just give too much of a fuck about a couple having a good time on their wedding day.

If the Bride and Groom had a good time, the wedding was a success.

We had whacky inflatable arm-waving tube men likenesses of ourselves at my wedding. Zero fucks were given to detractors.

Exactly. This is nothing but pure unadulterated /r/cringe if you ask me.

I dunno, it was pretty fun for us and everybody there.

I'm jealous of this. I'd want fallout themed but no way my girlfriend would be up for it.

Agreed. It was like Christmas for any photographer.

I got downvoted for posting a gif of guys in robes fighting in the street with lightsabers. If you posted this there, I'd upvote it.

Well, I'm glad you weren't invited. :)

Unfortunately I agree. Myself and everybody I know is pretty nerdy, so I could imagine doing a little something unorthodox, but nothing to this degree. The one I saw a while ago had the DJ play "the rains of Castamere" at a randomly chosen time, then all of the couple's close friends pulled out Nerd blasters and shot at them. That seems fun and unobtrusive beyond the five minutes or so it takes up. this is just bizarre, considering that weddings are for both families, not just the couple.

On the other hand, who the hell am I to judge. The theme is incredibly well done, and it is supposed to be their special day.

It's ridiculously cringy. It reminds me of that couple that had a ninja at their wedding. We get it. You were bulled in high school.

Yeah, I agree this would be super awkward for the attendees who weren't familiar with it. Themed weddings just seem super childish to me

All weddings are "themed" in some respect. Most people are just used to victorian princess themes.

Pompous church weddings seem pretty childish to me as well, but I don't go out of my way to point that out to folks.

If "virtually every wedding you've ever attended was more out of obligation than desire," I'd hardly go to you for advice on what's acceptable to do at weddings.

The wedding is for the bride and groom to throw a party. If you don't want to come to the party, you're welcome to stay home.

Everybody had a great time. The family's loved the cosplayers and took lots of pictures with them and us.

There is one major rule about wedding planning: every wedding is tacky, so plan it the way you want it.

And that's what we did. I'm sorry if you would prefer the cookie-cutter style that has bored me to tears for years. Our ceremony was short and sweet, the food was delicious, and we danced til the wee hours. I call it a success.

God forbid they do what they want at their wedding

Who doesn't want to go to a wedding? Good food, live music, cheap drink...

Thankfully we have you to tell everyone else how they should enjoy their lives. Brave.

comment above: entitled person who thinks weddings should all be the way they want them to be

Says the one calling anyone with a different opinion on what their marriage should be an 'autist'. They get to decide on their marriage not you. Sorry buddy but you came across as totally selfish. Also if a marriage is an obligation then they are not your friends or you have something wrong with things not going your way.

Also it is easy to 'just not go'. If I had the choice of having a little brat like yourself attending my wedding the (way my wife and I want it) and having you moan about it then stay the fuck home.

Going to McDonald's for your wedding is WTF but this isn't? K
